Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 420: Your Little Secretary Got Married
Audrey Sutton slept until dawn, feeling groggy.
She woke up a bit confused, not knowing where she was.
Sitting at the edge of the hospital bed, she stretched lazily and suddenly met Shane Warner’s gaze. She froze for a moment, and the memories began to come back, recalling yesterday’s events.
She rubbed her sleepy eyes and asked him, "You’re awake?"
Shane glanced at her and said, "I told you to sleep at the hotel, but you wouldn’t listen. Staying at the hospital, you didn’t do much anyway."
Audrey Sutton laughed awkwardly, "Didn’t I say to call me if you needed anything?"
"I did call. Even the nurses outside heard, but you didn’t wake up."
"Impossible, did I really sleep that soundly?" Audrey Sutton turned her head to look around, rummaged through the blankets to find her phone, checked the time, and sighed in relief.
Fortunately, it was still early, not yet eight o’clock.
But she had slept for more than ten hours starting from around nine last night, and indeed hadn’t heard Shane Warner calling at night.
"What do you want for breakfast?"
"I’ve already asked my assistant to bring it over; it should arrive shortly."
Upon hearing that, Audrey Sutton lazily reclined back onto the bed, leaned against the pillow, and started playing with her phone, browsing through the dormitory group chat records.
She noticed an image sent by Seraphina Vaughn, a screenshot of an X gossip account post titled: "Celestine’s Young Master Secretly Married Yesterday." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Below were several images, capturing scenes from Ivan Yardley’s and Lan Irving’s wedding, obviously taken by passersby. It seemed Ivan Yardley hadn’t intended to announce it widely; such low-key behavior was quite unlike him.
Even more surprising to Audrey Sutton was that the two had actually gotten to the point of marriage.
Audrey Sutton got up and handed the phone to Shane Warner: "Look, your little secretary got married."
Shane merely glanced at it and glared at her: "What do you mean by ’my little secretary’?"
Audrey Sutton sat beside the hospital bed and asked him: "After she left Starfield, did she ever contact you again?"
Shane Warner: "Why would she contact me? I’m not close to her."
Audrey Sutton asked, not because she suspected Shane Warner was secretly acting behind her back like before, but to see if Lan Irving had contacted Shane Warner, to discern if the envelope delivery was related to Lan Irving.
Shane Warner had long suspected Lan Irving. He had asked Faye Xavier to inquire with Lan Irving about the emails she had sent him, but Lan Irving claimed they were merely her internal speculations, not anything directed at Audrey Sutton.
Despite Lan Irving’s words, Shane Warner couldn’t blindly believe her. However, he hadn’t found a definitive reason to accuse her yet, but if he discovered someone was interfering, regardless of who, he would eliminate the problem.
The day after tomorrow, Audrey Sutton would start school, but Shane Warner wasn’t discharged yet. She initially planned to call her brother for leave, letting him handle the registration at school.
Still, Shane Warner felt this would imply his matters were delaying Audrey Sutton’s studies, refusing to let her take leave. He had Faye Xavier book her a flight for the next morning, forcing her to leave.
Audrey Sutton couldn’t argue with him. Seeing his situation stable and his surgical wounds healing, she decided to leave, leaving Faye Xavier and his assistant to take care of him and followed his arrangements, heading home.
She originally wanted to stay with Shane Warner a bit longer and hoped he would change her ticket to an evening flight, but Shane Warner worried about her safety returning alone at night, refused to reschedule, and after breakfast had Faye Xavier send her to the airport.
Returning to Rivia, it was raining lightly.
Shane Warner had arranged for a driver to pick her up at the airport and directly took her home.
The sky remained overcast, seemingly about to pour heavily soon.
Audrey Sutton stayed home after lunch, didn’t go anywhere, and started painting in her room.
By three in the afternoon, heavy rain poured down.
Rain drifted through the windows into the room, Audrey Sutton got up to close the window and stretched her neck, standing by the window.
"Ding dong—" The phone by the computer rang.
She stood up to get her phone, initially thinking it was Shane Warner, but surprisingly, it was her second brother.
Franklin Sutton: I just visited the place where Sean Warner had his incident, and also checked the hotel where they had their gathering.
Audrey Sutton quickly typed a line: Did you find anything?
Franklin Sutton: Not much for now; too many years have passed. The once bustling area is now old; the hotel is demolished and being renovated into a hospital. Finding people who worked at the hotel back then might be challenging. I plan to further investigate and find a proper entry point to proceed.
Audrey Sutton thought for a moment then asked: Are you off today? How do you have time to investigate the scene?
Franklin Sutton: Two days ago, Shane came to our department, probably had a conversation with the higher-ups. The case has been reopened and I’m in charge now. But it’s been so long, with scant leads, making the investigation tricky.
Audrey Sutton smiled with relief; she had thought Shane Warner was so set in his own ideas that he wouldn’t care about her suspicions. Surprisingly, he had really restarted the investigation.
Audrey Sutton: If I find anything on my end, I’ll inform you promptly.
She remembered the man with the surname "Qi" she saw at the radio drama company that day. She wasn’t sure if he was genuinely connected to these matters but didn’t want to miss any potential clues, deciding to look into it when she could.
In the evening, Audrey Sutton sat in the living room eating dinner while watching TV.
The rain outside hadn’t stopped since the afternoon; maybe because Shane Warner had consistently kept in touch, she didn’t feel afraid.
"Ding dong—"
Audrey Sutton put down her chopsticks briefly and picked up the phone. Quinn sent her a series of pictures: you met that photographer at the bar again, these two only drink and chat every time they meet, then go home separately. Could they really just be friends?
Audrey Sutton felt with Nolan Hawke’s playboy traits, he wouldn’t maintain a proper relationship with a woman, especially considering Clarissa Morgan wasn’t exactly virtuous. The two meeting up every so often definitely harbored ulterior motives. Audrey Sutton instructed Quinn’s men to keep a close eye on Clarissa Morgan.
After ten at night, Shane Warner urged Audrey Sutton to go to sleep.
After saying "goodnight," she still played on her phone for a while.
Seeing half an hour had passed, she hurriedly put the phone down and turned off the light to sleep.
Just settled her quilts with eyes closed, the phone charging by the bed suddenly started ringing, a familiar incoming call tone.
Audrey Sutton sat up, reached for the phone—a strange number displayed—and hesitantly pressed the answer button: "Hello? Audrey speaking? This is Quentin Sterling."
