Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Compromise

From the sports field back to Hibiscus Garden, the tremor in Seraphina Redgrave’s heart still hadn’t settled.

The atmosphere between the two of them was somewhat inexplicably strange.

He wasn’t angry like last time, didn’t rush to deal with him, but remained silent.

He sat at the side, seemingly suppressing his emotions, occasionally glancing at her, but still said nothing, leaving Seraphina a bit puzzled.

Given this, Seraphina had nothing to say either.

The two of them naturally sat together and finished their meal.

Nanny Lynch noticed the odd atmosphere between them, only feeling puzzled.

Was it something she hadn’t done well?

Seraphina was chewing her food when a pan-fried bun was suddenly placed on her plate.

The bottom crust was golden and crispy, sprinkled with sesame and scallions—appealing colors tempting one’s appetite.

Seraphina looked at Ethan Sterling, but he deliberately lowered his head, prodding the vegetables in his bowl.

Seraphina picked up the pan-fried bun, bit a small hole in the skin, and sucked the broth inside; the meaty aroma was incredibly satisfying.

"Nanny Lynch, you can leave first."

Ethan Sterling ordered.

"Yes."

Nanny Lynch had to leave, only giving Seraphina a worried glance.

Ethan Sterling placed a cola chicken wing on Seraphina’s plate, his voice slightly cold, "Such topics are better left unmentioned in the future."

Seraphina bit her chopsticks and nodded, "Okay."

She understood why Ethan Sterling said that.

Talking too much about such topics would only increase troubles unnecessarily.

After all, no one’s opinion could really change the other’s.

The two of them were actually quite similar, stubborn in some ways to the point of being frightening, but it was uncertain how long this stubbornness would last, or whether someone would compromise when that day came.

"Do you have any ideas for our vacation spot? I’ll go once I find the time." Ethan Sterling remarked casually.

"You decide." Seraphina lowered her head, responding simply.

After finishing the meal, Seraphina cleaned up, then entered the study to continue handling the unfinished documents.

The lamp in the study was orange, giving a sense of security.

Seraphina’s fingers hovered over the keyboard for a long time before finally starting to type.

Z Country.

Veridian Isle.

The escapee.

Immediate execution.

These cold texts appeared on the computer screen, Seraphina’s fingers seemed like rusted iron, slowing down more and more.

She glanced at a candy box on the edge of the desk, reached out for one, peeled off the wrapper, and popped it into her mouth.

The familiar sweetness invaded her mind, reviving her nerves.

At some point Ethan Sterling appeared at the study door.

His hair wasn’t dried, sticking messily to his forehead, still dripping water, with drops flowing down into his collar, leaving an ambiguous trace.

"I’ll be done soon."

Seraphina clicked save, then closed the file.

Just as she was about to get up, Ethan Sterling strode over and pulled her into his arms, his kisses scattering heedlessly on her fair skin.

Her earlobe was held, licked lightly and heavily.

A tingling sensation shot from the soles of her feet, rushing to explode like fireworks in her mind.

Seraphina tried to push him away, only to be hugged tighter.

Then Ethan Sterling’s kisses landed on her brows, her lips, eagerly wanting to leave his mark on this girl.

After a while, Ethan Sterling released her, "Give me some time." His voice was heavily hoarse.

"?"

Some time for what? 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

The warm yellow light flooded Ethan Sterling’s eyes, reddening their edges, with a watery gleam in his gaze.

This look reminded her of the dying fawn she rescued on Veridian Isle years ago; its gaze was the same.

Dying?

Why was she thinking of that?

Ethan Sterling wasn’t like that.

Before thinking further, Ethan Sterling kissed her again, interrupting her thoughts.

Suspended in mid-air, Seraphina instinctively wrapped her arms around Ethan Sterling’s neck, making it more convenient for him.

But exactly what he’s thinking, only he knows.

The feeling of insecurity came back.

Ever since hearing Dr. Goodwin’s advice to find more things to do for himself, it had been a long time since he felt this way.

Ethan Sterling thought, if it really comes to the final step, Seraphina rebuilding Veridian Isle, would he compromise?

Is this the only way she can stay with him forever?

...

Ever since the day Ethan Sterling almost killed Selena Quinn, she chose to obediently stay away from Seraphina, actively applying for a department transfer.

As Selena Quinn packed up her desk, everyone dared not say a word, only looking at each other.

No one could guess why Selena Quinn voluntarily left, saying she had a spoiled personality, but she had gotten along well with everyone before.

Why exactly was this?

Seraphina sat in her chair, with Selena Quinn beside her, busy but a bit slow, probably because her body hadn’t fully recovered.

Suddenly, Seraphina felt the person next to her getting closer and closer.

Turning her head, she saw Selena Quinn standing weakly beside her, saying bitterly, "Sylvia, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I caused you so much trouble, now I’m leaving, I hope you’ll find peace and happiness afterwards."

Her voice wasn’t low, many colleagues heard it, all marveling at her kindness, unexpectedly she left because of this matter.

Clearly, it was Kyle Dawson and the others up to their tricks, yet Selena Quinn quietly took the consequences herself.

Seraphina just sneered faintly, "Not settling before leaving, aren’t you tired of living like this?"

She was just like that, speaking her mind directly; those twists and turns, not that she couldn’t grasp them, but she was too lazy to bother.

Colleagues hearing their dialogue exclaimed invigoratingly, wishing for more ears to listen more clearly.

Selena Quinn froze, hurriedly explaining, "Sylvia, it’s not what you think, I absolutely never meant to harm you!"
