SSS Awakening: I Can Steal Attributes-Chapter 37: Getting Blocked
A frown surfaced on Desther’s face as he looked at the five that appeared in front of them.
Without any suspense, Desther recognized them.
Among the many ’friendship’ groups that had been formed inside the classroom, he recognized them as part of Victor’s group.
If Lexie were considered the leader of most girls in the room, Victor would be the one held as the leader of the boys.
These five boys were part of that group.
Calling them Victor’s henchmen would not be wrong either, as he saw and observed multiple times how they try to cater to Victor’s wishes as if he were their prince.
Now, Victor was not among them, and he did not know what their real intention was.
Not to mention, they were already divided into sets of four, and then one group would consist of 3. For five of them to appear here at the same time indicates a lot.
"It’s you guys. Are you done with your first kill and have opened your Profile Status?" Lexie opened the conversation with a friendly smile.
The boys looked at each other; grins slowly flashed on their faces.
One of them, the boy with spiky hair, spoke up.
"We’re done with it, pres. Now, Victor has a goal to achieve, so we advise all of you to stay here obediently." Although the tone was neutral, Desther immediately sensed the hidden threat behind his words.
"Does his goal involve us getting trapped here?" He asked.
The guy with the spiky hair turned his head toward him.
"Oh, it’s Desther. Victor has tried to invite you multiple times to join our cohort, and you declined repeatedly. Now, I see the reason why," he said with a grin as he took a quick glance at Lexie before continuing.
"About what Victor’s goal is... honestly, you don’t have to know about it. Just be obedient and stay here with us for the time being."
’For the time being?’ That phrase caught Desther’s attention.
’Phew... And I thought they were going to kill us.’
’Not that they could do it, though.’
Now that he knew what was up, Desther was no longer as worried.
They could stop them here all they want. As long as there was no physical altercation, everything could be resolved with words.
Lexie turned toward him and the other two.
Glancing at their expression, they seemed to be uncomfortable with the whole situation too. Desther’s expression, though, remained passive, and he did not seem to care at all.
Lexie turned toward the guy with spiky hair again.
"Well then, John, can you at least tell us how long you guys plan on keeping us here?"
John shrugged his shoulders.
"Who knows. Twenty minutes? Thirty? An hour? Maybe two would suffice? What do you guys think?" He said, turning toward the other five.
"Yup, that should suffice!"
"Although Victor did not say anything about the duration, the longer they stay here, the better, right?"
Grinning, John turned his head toward Lexie and the other once more.
"There you have it. Don’t worry. As long as you guys stay here with us, nothing bad will happen to you."
’Welp, that sounds like a threat,’ Desther thought, but did not care too much about it.
"Alright. We don’t have a problem staying here. But you have to answer Teacher Rosa later on for delaying us here," Lexie stated with a firm tone.
One of the boys beside John scrunched his eyebrows upon hearing that. He was about to retort and say something when John raised his hand to stop him and just shook his head with a smile.
The other guy grunted and did not say anything else.
’So it’s John who’s calling the shots in this group, huh...’ Desther thought to himself upon observing the situation.
Since the matter was settled, and none of them wanted any altercation to happen, Desther decided to make the most of his time and do what he loved to do the most.
Fortunately, he had prepared in advance just in case such scenarios happen inside a dungeon.
Playing the waiting game was absolutely not a problem for him.
He looked around and found a shade he could rest in. Not wasting any more time, Desther moved toward it as he slid his backpack off his shoulders.
Lexie and the others turned toward him in confusion.
John and his friends also found his actions mind boggling.
A frown appeared on his face as he looked at Desther moving away.
"Where are you going? Didn’t you hear what I just said?" His voice was raised and was also a little tense.
Victor had told him something about Desther before, and John did not want to find out for himself whether it was true or not.
"Don’t worry, I’m tired from all of the running we went through earlier. I’m just gonna lie down in that tree," Desther replied, not even bothering to turn around.
John and his friends were a little pissed off seeing how he casually shrugged them off.
Lexie chuckled inwardly and decided to move to another shade as well, ignoring the five of them completely.
Not knowing where to go, Elena and Noah could only follow behind Lexie. They soon copied Desther and sat under the shade of a tree not far from him.
On the other hand, Desther placed his backpack on the ground, wanting to use it as a pillow.
He then took out his phone and immediately opened his reading app eagerly.
At the top of his phone, he immediately noticed the no connection icon beside the battery level.
Fortunately, he had downloaded some novels ahead of time. The downloaded Chapters should be enough for him to pass the time.
With an eager smile, Desther clicked the novel he downloaded. He had already read around ten Chapters in advance, making sure he would not fall for clickbait titles and making sure that the content was good enough to read.
’Yep. I can do this all day! Desther thought, as he began to read.
Meanwhile, John and the others were already fuming in anger upon seeing their actions.
Although they were tasked to hold down anyone who tried to pass in this route, and what Desther and the others were doing was in their interest, being ignored like this still did not sit right with them.
Although fuming in anger as he did not get the reaction he wanted from the group, John still decided to hold his anger in, deeming the mission more important than personal feelings.
Unfortunately, one of his friends did not seem to agree with him in that area.
The boy beside him suddenly raised his hand.
A small ball of flame suddenly lit up on his fingertip.
A mad grin surfaced on his face as he shot the ball of fire toward Desther’s location.
