Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension-Chapter 88: Fight!
Boom!
Daddy Ye's axe smashed into the body of a large wolf, slicing into its fur and breaking the ribs. The other werewolves scrambled back, blasted away by the shockwave of his descent.
"Always making the loudest entrance."
Little Tiger yawned lazily, then jumped off the walls. His fall was slower, but the damage he caused wasn't any less. Countless werewolves fell to his blades, their blood staining the old streets. Most of them were at the first-level, with a few others of the second-level.
"Kill! Kill! Kill it all!"
He laughed childishly, welding his swords like chainsaws that shredded hides like paper. Soon, he was surrounded by corpses and was almost covered in dark red blood.
"Don't waste your energy on the weaker ones. The real threats are close behind."
Anna appeared like a ghost, warning him with a grave face. Little Tiger's eyes regained clarity instantly, and he stopped useless movements.
Anna ripped off the head of a second-level werewolf with a single pull, then glanced at Charles on the walls.
The man understood the meaning of her action, and turned. "Open the gates."
The large red gates opened, and the Red Wings Army rushed out, all donned in full gear and armed weapons.
Now that the momentum of the wolves had been halted, they were going to face them. The other third-level evolved disengaged and let the warriors take charge.
Jayden and Alex acted as the sharpest swords. They fought against the werewolves with precision, knowing fully well that these creatures were equally intelligent.
As expected, the werewolves quickly organized themselves after being freed from the pressure of the third-level evolved humans.
Against the human army, they moved like a tide, using their strong bodies to force their way through.
Thankfully, the Red Wings evolved humans were not without a leader.
"Wave formation!"
As practiced, the humans assembled into two horizontal lines pressed against each other. Moving like a rake, they cut down the werewolves while advancing, pushing the dreadful army away from the shelter.
"Their numbers are seriously daunting. It feels like they were waiting for an opportunity to come here."
Ice complained at the sight, her face etched with a slight frown.
Shadow nodded briskly, "Boss already said it. They need to occupy strongholds."
"Phew… that's honestly a lot. I wish I know what he's doing over there"
"Don't say that beside her."
They both glanced at the girl sitting on the walls with her legs dangling in the air. She had her thumb in her mouth with a downcast expression, quietly sulking.
Suddenly, Shadow's head snapped to the distance. "Hey, Sylvia. I think we've got a strong company."
Some distance away, a large werewolf with brown fur was approaching. It moved steadily, not too slow, and not too hurried.
"Overconfident dog." Ice spat in annoyance.
Sylvia's eyes lit up as soon as she saw it, and her lips curled into a grin.
"Finally! Some good meat!"
She hopped off the walls, then blurred towards the brown werewolf.
"Let's leave her with that and attend to the others."
Old Pipe chipped in with a toothy grin, pointing at a few werewolves at the back of their wholesome army.
"Understood." Shadow nodded, then disappeared.
Ice followed after with a gust of cold wind, making the old man wince.
"Children these days with dramatic entrances. Can't you simply be like me?"
He walked towards the wolves calmly, not knowing he was actually aura-farming.
'These wolves… they're not attempting communication. I need to find the leaders. Leon told me to.'
Anna thought as she watched the battle unfold. This was the first time the shelter was having a large-scale battle with intelligent creatures, and warriors were already dying.
Thankfully, they had been trained, and casuality wasn't that bad.
'They're still people nonetheless.'
She shook her head, then let her whip coil around her arm.
"It's inevitable… everyone is fighting to survive in this damned world."
...
At the borders of Night Veil City, two figures met in a deserted area. They stood opposite each other, with a tensed silence between them. Finally, one of them spoke.
"Blood bastard, how is the subjugation over there?"
One of them said in a husky voice. He had a larger frame, with long black hair and fierce eyes.
The other was leaner, looking like a refined gentleman in regal robes. His lips curled into a sneer as he spoke.
"Stinking mutt, aren't you too cocky? Just because you can assume a natural form doesn't mean you can speak as you please."
His voice was charming, as one would expect from a vampire.
"Grr… you don't want to start a squabble, do you?"
The huge man replied, baring his teeth to reveal sharp canines.
"Tch, forget it. It'd stain my dignity. Anyway… there were no strongholds in Pittblegh or whatever they call it. Instead, I've set my sights on Cleveland. Those there are weak and small."
"Not bad, but still behind my achievement." The Werewolf scoffed, raising his chin proudly.
"Behind your achievement? I heard you haven't been able to subdue those here."
"Indeed, the battle performed yesterday resulted in the loss of some cannon fodder."
"Pathetic. How do you think you'll report to your Squadron Beta when you return for reports?"
"I've already sent a M.A.W to those in this city. In a few hours, they'll be subdued."
"You utilized a M.A.W already? You're crazy. You mutts are crazy!" The vampire gasped in disbelief, then shook his head. "That's enough talking. We need to contact the others too and see their progress. We can't let those witches get too much of a headstart."
The werewolf nodded gravely. "Unfortunately, you're right. Those bitches can be quite annoying."
"I'll take my leave. Finish up with this city today. We'll check for the others in a few days."
The vampire said, then burst into a cluster of bats that flew into the sky. The werewolf lingered, then looked towards the location of the Red Wings shelter.
"I wonder how much of those walls have been brought down?"
Grinning to himself, he dashed away to have fun.
Unknown to any of them, their conversation had been witnessed by a black crow with beady red eyes.
Caw! Caw!
