Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 107: A Concubine’s Tears (II)
"S-Sir Vestor—!"
Ruela scrambled up from her bed, but because she was still wearing the same dress she had worn at the banquet, parts of her body were exposed. In her current state, she truly looked like a prostitute.
Vestor frowned even deeper and turned his gaze away in disgust. "Conduct yourself, Ruela. Why would you wear such a thing to a banquet held for a child? And now you’re still dressed like this while I’m visiting your courtyard?! Do you take me as a foul man who’d want to see that in the palace!?"
He assumed Ruela’s maid had warned her repeatedly to change into proper clothing.
After all, she seemed to care deeply for her mistress. But it was Ruela who had refused, choosing instead to sob in bed while cursing the Beast King and his bloodline.
Had anyone else overheard her, she would have been executed on the spot for insulting the royal lineage.
"I-I’m sorry! I’ll change immediately!" Ruela snapped, shooting Leah a glare for being unprepared.
Leah shook her head pitifully and hurried off to fetch a suitable dress.
Once Ruela was properly dressed, she returned to Vestor and asked cautiously, "S-Sorry for earlier, Sir. Is... is there something you wished to discuss?"
Only then did Vestor look at her again.
Ruela wore a sweet smile, but her swollen red eyes and disheveled hair made it painfully obvious she had been crying nonstop, like a woman mourning a husband lost to war.
’How shameful,’ Vestor thought. ’She caused a scandal at the royal banquet, yet she still acts as though she’s the victim. Does she not realize she nearly cost me my position? And the King is furious with the entire palace because of her.’
When Vestor first received the King’s order regarding Ruela, he had hesitated.
Now, seeing that Ruela still failed to grasp the gravity of her actions, his hesitation vanished.
"I was summoned to the throne room earlier," Vestor said flatly. "The Beast King ordered me to deliver his decision to you."
"A-and what decision is that, Sir?" Ruela asked.
She didn’t know whether to feel hopeful or terrified.
Perhaps the Beast King had realized he’d been too harsh and wanted to reconcile. Perhaps he intended to summon her privately, away from prying eyes, and demand her to fulfil her duty as a concubine.
Yet her instincts screamed otherwise.
’No... what if he wants to kill me?’ Ruela pondered for a moment before quickly rejecting the idea. ’I don’t think I will be killed for this. But... but what if he wants to dismiss me instead?’
The thought made her blood run cold.
If she were dismissed and forced to leave the palace, she would be ruined.
Her family had already been on the brink of disgrace before she became a concubine. Now that they were finally rising again, being dismissed would mean she’d be barred from returning home altogether.
Her mother’s words echoed in her mind.
"Remember, Ruela. You must not fall. The fate of our entire family rests on you. If the Beast King abandons you, we will all suffer."
At first, Ruela had planned to be a proper concubine—patient, obedient, waiting until the King summoned her to his den to mate.
But then others whispered that she should be more proactive. Leah fed her fantasies, telling her she was blessed by the Moon Goddess, and her family praised her, telling her that she was special as the first and only concubine.
Slowly, ambition took root.
She wanted to be useful.
She wanted to fulfill her duty.
She wanted to matter.
She had already been treated as a queen while the Beast King was away. The palace bowed to her, catered to her, feared her.
And she didn’t want to lose that.
Thus, she dressed provocatively at the royal banquet to make a statement that she was truly favored—
And now, she was paying the price for her foolish action.
"You already know what a grave mistake you made," Vestor said coldly. "Your actions at the royal banquet were utterly disgraceful, Ruela."
"I-I know I was wrong, Sir," Ruela pleaded. "B-but it shouldn’t be this bad, right? I-I can still apologize to the King! I’ll go to the throne room right now!"
"There’s no need," Vestor interrupted. "The Beast King has already passed judgment."
He looked down at her with icily.
"Ruela of Stormfront Pack—you are hereby dismissed from your position as concubine."
The words struck her like thunder beneath a clear sky and her world collapsed.
Tears welled in her eyes once more, spilling freely down her cheeks.
Seeing this, Vestor added, "You will not be cast out penniless. You’ll be compensated generously. I’ll ensure you receive enough wealth to live comfortably after leaving the palace."
"I don’t want your gold!" Ruela screamed. Tears soaked the floor beneath her. "I just want to stay here! This is my home! Don’t you understand what will happen to me once everyone sees me being thrown out? They’ll think that I’ve lost the King’s favor! I’ll be humiliated!"
"But you did lose his favor," Vestor said bluntly. "The moment you appeared at the royal banquet dressed like that, you tossed all his sympathy."
"I—"
She couldn’t deny it.
She knew that the instant the Beast King reprimanded her in public, her life as a concubine was already over.
But accepting it was another matter entirely.
If she returned home in disgrace, her family would abandon her. She might even be driven out of the Beast Kingdom altogether.
"You’ll still live well," Vestor said firmly. "With the compensation you’ll receive, you can purchase property and open a shop. You won’t suffer materially."
Ruela shook her head.
Gold could never buy back dignity.
No amount of wealth could erase the shame that would cling to her name throughout the kingdom as an ex-concubine, a disgraced woman who would never find a mate.
Besides, which man would want a woman that the Beast King dismissed personally?
