Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 436 - 427: Puki Carrying Spell
In the training grounds of the Duke’s Mansion, Inanna moved her body slightly and looked at the Pukis behind her, taking two deep breaths.
"This time it will work for sure!"
She raised the magic staff inlaid with a large piece of A Level Demon Crystal.
"Puki Carrying Spell!"
Although she called it that, what actually emerged from the magic staff was still a water snake.
However, under Inanna’s will and with the cooperation of the "Favor of the Elemental Spirit," this water snake underwent some strange changes.
It first coiled around Inanna’s waist, its ends connecting, turning into a floating liquid hula hoop.
Afterwards, more than a dozen water lines extended from the water ring, binding the surrounding Pukis one by one.
Unfortunately, after binding only 13 Pukis, it couldn’t split into new water lines anymore.
Yet Inanna was quite satisfied with the result, at least it didn’t directly break like the previous attempts.
Then, Inanna started running, with Pukis flying like kites behind her, not blown by the wind, but lifted by the water lines.
It wasn’t until Inanna was tired from running that the Pukis didn’t collide with each other.
As Inanna stopped and panted, the water lines finally lowered the Pukis one by one.
Inanna then tried sending one Puki running into the distance, the water line extending longer and longer until nearly 10 meters, and the Puki which couldn’t move was yanked back with a "whizz," landing on the water ring to cushion the impact, unharmed.
Seeing this, Inanna could no longer contain her excitement, jumping while shouting towards the housekeeper at the edge of the training ground: "Eric! Did you see just now? I did it! I created a new spell!"
Eric nodded with a face full of encouragement and did not explain the so-called "new spell" criteria to Inanna.
That is, a new spell must have universality, where having the corresponding magic talent would suffice to learn and use it.
Like Inanna, relying on this cheat-like "Favor of the Elemental Spirit," spending a little time, and any kind of magic can be molded into beauty and fun, it doesn’t really count as a "new spell."
Eric certainly wouldn’t dampen the young lady’s enthusiasm, but...
Looking at the Pukis floating behind Inanna, Eric couldn’t help but rub between his eyebrows.
More Pukis again...
Initially, he thought the young lady probably just lacked a sense of security from the Underground City experience, needing Pukis for emotional comfort, and would gradually return to normal over time.
But as time went on, Inanna instead spent almost all her time on Pukis.
When going out, Pukis surrounded her more than the guards, and when playing at the mansion, it was always with the Pukis, the handpicked maids of similar age to her could only watch from afar, and at bedtime, she would bring all the Pukis into her room.
And now, even studying magic was for better running around with the Pukis, to make up for the inconvenience of Puki’s short legs...
Eric somewhat regretted, wondering if his previous laissez-faire approach was wrong to some extent.
After all, from some sources lately, it seems the Pukis might not just be simple mutations.
The unknown represents potential risks, and one of his most important duties is to protect the young lady’s safety.
External dangers are easy to handle; after he cleared the intell traitors and replaced most of the mansion personnel, he was confident that no one could sneak in to harm the young lady.
But... changing the young lady’s mind is much harder.
Like trying to take a child’s toy without making them cry, Eric didn’t want to handle this matter in a way that would upset Inanna, considering it wasn’t urgent to that degree.
So, he found himself troubled lately.
Similarly troubled was the situation at the frontlines, as the regular contact yesterday failed to reach the Duke, and combined with the frontlines situation reported by the Duke earlier, Eric could only pray in his heart that the communication equipment was accidentally damaged and not the High Castle Fortress falling.
Suddenly, the badge in his breast pocket vibrated slightly, which was a signal that the communication equipment received a signal.
Glancing at Inanna still joyfully playing in the training ground, Eric turned and walked briskly away.
In the communication room, he received the second worst news—the High Castle Fortress had fallen, and Duke Alama was seriously injured!
This is bad!
Eric, who had been handling the rear affairs for Alama, had a clear understanding of the current situation.
Previously, High Castle Fortress and Three Mountains City formed a mutual flank, each holding back an army of the Demon Race.
And now, with High Castle Fortress fallen, as soon as the Demon Race made a brief rest, they could join forces to wipe out the remaining army still in Three Mountains City.
And worse still, Three Mountains City was already at a disadvantage, surviving till now by consuming magic power through large magic arrays, having virtually no capability for retreat or escape, thus almost completely trapped.
And if the Sword Saint, Brunus, along with the Archbishop Ditas who recently arrived at Three Mountains Castle, were to be annihilated in Three Mountains City along with the army.
It’s not just a loss of strength. More crucially, morale would collapse.
Humans hardly have a good life on the Demon Race’s side; even getting the status to become a Vampire won’t generally cover family members. Moreover, demon race’s dukes capriciously break promises occasionally.
Various reasons lead to most people persisting to the end, even in the face of death, to fight for a better future for their compatriots and family behind.
But if hope is gone, people’s choices will be uncertain, and their abandonment would accelerate the Kingdom’s downfall.
Eric quickly pondered what he could do.
Recently, a bunch of new Puki Masters had been recruited, but not yet fully trained, probably can’t bother about these now.
Having just lost High Castle Fortress, frontline resources are likely short, although not yet mentioned through communications, he must begin preparations in advance.
The high-tier weapons and equipment in the warehouse should be brought out; leaving them to collect dust will only ultimately benefit those attacking demons; bringing them out now could still support the army a bit.
And also...
Inanna!
Must prepare for the possibility of the Kingdom’s total defeat.
As a Duke of the Kingdom, it wasn’t for Eric to worry about Duke Alama’s decisions, but he absolutely had to protect the young lady’s safety.
The Kingdom was no longer safe; the dwarves were internally unstable, and if the Kingdom was defeated, they would probably be next.
In the west, encountering the demon race was likely at any time, so the passage to the Archipelago also wasn’t safe.
After much thought, only the Elf Forest seemed suitable.
But the Elves were notoriously reclusive, securing the young lady’s entry for protection might cost a lot of...
Through the corridor window, Eric suddenly caught a glimpse of Inanna in the yard.
She stood there holding the Knight Puki in a daze.
This was also a habit formed from Inanna’s interactions with the Pukis, yet it wasn’t the time to consider such trivialities now.
"Housekeeper! Housekeeper Eric!" At the corridor’s end, a slightly panicked guard rushed towards Eric.
Meanwhile, Inanna seemed to notice Eric behind the window, turning around, raising the Knight Puki high with a firm look: "Eric! I am going to save the old man!"
For a rare moment, Eric was somewhat stunned, not understanding what the young lady meant.
To save? Did the young lady know what happened to the Duke? How would she save him?
The guard hurried to him, reporting nervously: "Lord Eric, you must come out and see!"
"What’s the matter?"
"Puki! So many... so many Pukis! The mansion is surrounded!"
