Mecha Devourer System-Chapter 197: Unexpected Call (II)
"Huh?"
Everlearn was at first lost for words, wondering how the little thing had spawned next to him, but he soon got the answer.
He was in a commercial plane, and the seat next to his was taken by a woman who had already fallen fast asleep, and the girl ought to be her daughter or sister.
"What?"
║Tsk. Your children's skills are terrible!║
The system panel flashed, making Everlearn dumbfounded.
'Did I say that wrongly?'
"Huuuh,"
The girl said, trying to muster words, but in the end, she said nothing, instead passing Everlearn her tablet.
When he took her tablet and looked at it, he was dumbfounded.
It was a list of footage made by her searching for crashed planes, and it held various ghastly images of planes flying down covered in flames or explosions of planes in the sky.
He couldn't help but give the girl a second look.
'What type of human being searches for plane crashes while being in a plane!?'
"So, uuuuh, are we going to crash!?"
She asked, and her question drew some attention from the other passengers.
"Don't worry. This is the safest plane on Nvidia. It can't crash,"
Everlearn reassured, earning a couple of nods from the others.
He returned to her tab, but then she asked,
"But what if we crash!?"
It was a tricky question.
Everlearn sure wouldn't die. A plane crash wouldn't kill him.
But she and the rest of the humans…
"Then, none of you will..."
He spoke, but paused at the last second before continuing."
"Don't worry. I'll protect us all!"
He declared grandly, watching her eyes shine.
'That worked for real?' Everlearn mused in disbelief.
Before him was the panel.
║ Don't say they won't survive, you blonk head. ║
║Say it like this: "Don't worry. I'll protect us all."║
He didn't know why, but it worked at least.
The girl kneeled on the seat that lay between her mother and him, asking,
"Really?"
"Yes," he said, watching as she smiled, but then she quickly returned to typing on her tablet, showing him.
"Are you one of them?" she asked, and Everlearn saw the images.
Images of those Corers dressed in superhero suits saving people.
"A hero?" he asked, as she nodded quickly like a cute rabbit.
"Tsk."
"I'm no..." He said, pausing before completing:
"Of course, I am."
"Waaaaaaaaah. Really?" she asked, and he nodded tiredly.
"What can you do?" she asked.
"Huh?"
"See," she said, pointing at one of the heroes. He was some suave-looking dude in a cape robe.
"This is Hero Celestiq! He can fly!" she said, as Everlearn sighed inside.
'He can't fly. Those fancy shoes hold anti-gravity modules that mimic flight,' he thought quietly.
"And Hero Mortar can create a powerful storm that can throw the bad people away and bring people down safely from the sky!"
She said with bright light in her eyes, but Everlearn didn't believe that.
'He can't create a powerful storm. He's got a fan mecha module that can create a gust of powerful air around his chest and arms.'
'What type of weirdo puts a tech fan in their stomach anyway?'
Before Everlearn knew it, they had gone through more than a dozen heroes.
"They're all so coool, aren't they!?"
She asked with dreamy eyes, before turning to him sharply.
"You're a hero, right?"
She asked.
"Yes?"
"Why don't you look cool though?"
She asked, and Everlearn almost coughed out blood.
A couple of laughs rang out silently on board, quickly muffled down as they came.
Before he could even answer that, she asked,
"Where is your hero suit!?"
"Huh? I forgot it at home?"
"You sound like a baaaaad hero," she said, and Everlearn wasn't even mad at that.
'Honestly, I am.'
"If the plane crashes, how would you save us? What can you do?"
She asked, with bubbly eyes.
"Huh. I'll lift it up before it falls?" he asked, but then she asked,
"Can you fly?"
"No."
"Then you'll just crash along with us, won't you?"
She asked, and he was speechless.
"If that happens, then only you will live."
'Honestly, that's true. If this plane crashes from such a height, only I would live.'
That was the truth he ought to have given her.
"Oh, honey, that's not true."
A woman's voice echoed out before she could say her next words.
"Mom?" she asked.
"He is Hero Believe." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
The blue-haired lady said as the girl crawled to her.
"Hero Believe?" she asked.
"Yes, and you know how his power works?" the woman asked, and Everlearn watched the girl's eyes light.
"Tellieee, tellieeee."
"His power is the power of belief, which means if you believe the plane won't crash, then your belief will be granted and the plane won't crash."
She said, and the girl's eyes lit up like the sun.
"That's so coooooooooool."
"It truly is. Now stop disturbing the hero and go to sleep. He must prepare his belief power in quiet before it works," she said, nudging the girl to her chest.
In a matter of a few seconds, she was completely out, the tab almost slipping onto the ground, but caught by her mother.
She turned to Everlearn.
"I'm sorry. Juisely can be really annoying sometimes."
She said, and Everlearn shrugged it off with a smile.
"She seems to me a genius detective in the making,"
He complimented, and truly, he was being honest.
The little girl's questions had slowly led Everlearn into exposing all his claims, and she'd done it without any lie-detecting device at all.
Just simple harmless questions.
"Glad you took no offense," she said before she snuggled deeper into her child, soon falling asleep.
It was around 4:00 in the morning, so he understood that.
Soon everyone had dozed off, and the lights dimmed as the plane continued on its journey.
But Everlearn's eyes remained open, even in the dim light, a small smile at the corner of his lips.
"The Power of Belief, huh. Interesting."
