Chapter 757: Chapter 757: The Green Tea Co-renting Girl

That evening, Lin Feng wasn’t idle either. He had the matchmaker ask around about Xuan Jiayi’s character. He was also curious about her parents. Their family’s financial situation was secondary; as long as they were good people, the Lin family would be at ease. After all, Si Bao was a simple, kind-hearted soul, and as parents, they had to consider these things thoroughly for him.

Meanwhile, Xuan Jiayi returned to her apartment in high spirits. Her curious roommate immediately came over to ask, "How did it go? What does the guy look like? How old is he? Is he handsome?"

"You’re pretty chubby. He wasn’t put off by it, was he? He didn’t say anything mean, right?"

Xuan Jiayi’s face beamed with happiness as she practically danced with excitement. "Let me tell you, he’s incredibly handsome, thoughtful, and gentle, and he doesn’t mind my weight at all."

"After we met, we went to a movie, then had hot pot. After that, we went shopping, and then we went for barbecue. He even drove me home."

The roommate frowned, looking skeptical. "For real? He really didn’t look down on you?"

Xuan Jiayi nodded vigorously. "Mm-hm, not one bit!"

Still half-convinced, her roommate said, "He’s not just putting on an act, is he? You said he’s handsome, so let me see what he looks like."

Xuan Jiayi giggled and pulled out a profile shot of Si Bao that she had carefully and secretly taken. She had been too embarrassed to take a picture of him openly.

Her roommate leaned over for a look, and her expression immediately soured.

Even without seeing his full face, just his profile was enough to see how handsome he was. He had a refreshing, clean vibe and remarkably white teeth. You could tell he wasn’t the type to deliberately try too hard with his appearance.

Xuan Jiayi gazed at the photo adoringly. "He told me his dad can treat illnesses and asked me to go see him tomorrow."

Her roommate was quick to object. "Then he’s definitely trying to scam you out of your money!"

Xuan Jiayi frowned. "I don’t think so. He doesn’t seem like that kind of person."

The roommate put on a know-it-all expression and said condescendingly, "When he takes you there tomorrow, it’ll be one fee after another. He’ll say you need several courses of treatment or something. Just you wait, he’ll make sure you empty your wallet."

"That can’t be right," Xuan Jiayi frowned. "He doesn’t seem like a swindler. Look, this is the bag he bought for me."

Only then did the roommate notice Xuan Jiayi’s new handbag. It was one she had coveted for a long time but couldn’t bring herself to buy.

She asked, a mix of envy and jealousy in her voice, "He bought it for you? It’s probably a fake, right?"

Xuan Jiayi quickly defended Si Bao. "Of course not! We were shopping and passed by a boutique. He saw how much I liked it and just bought it for me."

"He even said his brother-in-law has connections with all these brands and that his parents can just use his brother-in-law’s name to buy things from them."

The roommate was stunned. "He’s lying. Who does he think he is?"

Xuan Jiayi smiled sweetly. "Whatever you say, he wouldn’t lie to me. I trust him."

Her roommate pursed her lips, puzzled. "Then what does he see in you?"

"You’re so chubby and not even that pretty. What could he possibly want from you?"

Xuan Jiayi hadn’t expected her roommate to say something like that; she had never been like this before. "You’re the one who used to say that somewhere in the world, there might be someone who likes me just the way I am."

"Besides, does liking someone have to be about what you can get from them?"

"Look at me. What do I possibly have that he could be after?"

Her roommate was struck speechless by this and frowned. "I’m going with you tomorrow, so you don’t get scammed without even knowing it."

Xuan Jiayi was silent for a moment before saying, "I’d rather go by myself."

"No way," the roommate insisted. "What if you get scammed? I’ll be there to keep an eye on things."

After saying her piece, the roommate went back to her room. Once inside, the sour look on her face gave her away. She immediately grabbed her phone and made a call.

The next morning, Lin Feng was surprised by the information that arrived in his email about Xuan Jiayi’s identity. She was the sole heiress of the country’s top real estate tycoon! It seemed he had met the girl once, a long time ago, and had found her quite charming.

Lin Feng had met this real estate tycoon, Xuan Fei, a few times in recent years and gotten a general sense of his character. He even had the man’s number saved on his phone.

Xuan Jiayi’s father, Xuan Fei, was a typical self-made man. He started as a poor boy, but his wife came from a well-off family. It wasn’t until they were middle-aged that they finally had their daughter, Xuan Jiayi. Previously, Xuan Fei’s wife had a miscarriage. It happened during a critical period in their business when they were both overwhelmed with work. Her health was affected, and it took several years of medication before she was able to have this precious daughter. The couple doted on her, keeping her out of the public eye and letting her do as she pleased.

Lin Feng never imagined that Xuan Fei’s daughter would be in Yangcheng. The matchmaker had only mentioned that the girl was born in Yangcheng to a well-off family with parents in business. Zhou Cuilan had also made some inquiries, but the families she’d found were worlds apart from the Xuan Family in terms of status.

Lin Feng didn’t dwell on it. As the daughter of the Xuan Family, her character was unlikely to be an issue.

When Zhang Yuxi learned the news, she was astonished. "Should we tell Si Bao about this?"

Lin Feng shook his head. "It’s enough that we know. Let the young people figure things out on their own."

Zhang Yuxi nodded, trusting her husband’s judgment.

After breakfast, Si Bao drove to pick up Xuan Jiayi. Er Bao had originally had an appointment that day but canceled it to stay home and meet his potential future sister-in-law. He was also curious to see if his father could actually treat her.

Ten minutes after Si Bao arrived at the apartment, Xuan Jiayi came trotting down. Unexpectedly, another girl, dressed quite fancily, came down with her.

Si Bao wore huge sunglasses that covered half his face, and his casual athletic wear made him look like he was in his early twenties.

Xuan Jiayi said a bit shyly, "Um, I didn’t put on any makeup..."

Si Bao didn’t mind. "So what if you didn’t? I don’t care. The old saying is that a woman wears makeup for the man she loves, but these days, girls do it for themselves."

Xuan Jiayi giggled. "Who says that?"

"My second sister," Si Bao smiled.

Xuan Jiayi knew Si Bao had several siblings, but since it was their first proper date, she felt it wasn’t the right time to press for details.

Ever the gentleman, Si Bao opened the passenger door for Xuan Jiayi. He then opened the rear door for her roommate.

As soon as she got in, the roommate piped up from the back seat, "Jia Yi, aren’t you going to introduce me?"

Only then did Xuan Jiayi remember. "Oh! Right. This is my roommate."

Si Bao offered a polite smile. "Hello."

The two of them in the front chatted away, with the roommate occasionally chiming in from the back seat. For instance, Si Bao mentioned that he liked the cute little animals on Xuan Jiayi’s dress.

Xuan Jiayi candidly admitted that she liked the dress because it was slimming.

The roommate then interjected, telling Xuan Jiayi she should lose weight, otherwise, how could she deserve such a handsome boyfriend?

But Si Bao immediately put her in her place.

"I think she’s perfectly fine. If she can’t lose the weight, so what? Forcing it isn’t healthy."

"Besides, whether or not she’s a match for me isn’t for you to decide."

After a few such exchanges, Xuan Jiayi finally understood. The roommate’s sour attitude made it all too clear.

She’s jealous of me!
