Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 486: Fallen
(Author’s POV)
"Did we come to the right place?" Chris inquired as he looked around with obvious wariness in his eyes. The place was bustling with noisy people, gulping down drinks after drinks, smoking, which made the space murky, yelling at each other without a damn reason, fighting tooth and nail, heedlessly gambling. By years of experience and observation, he could tell this was a den for the rogue, berserk shapeshifters. Honestly, none of them was hiding their identity. Their stench was high in the air, almost making the surroundings suffocating.
’Thank goodness I drank the potion healer Hector had given me. If any of them knew I was a human, they would pounce on me like the freaking animals they are,’ Chris thought as he adjusted his hoodie and mask.
Nerissa had said that there was someone who knew about gold blood and other forbidden texts, so he had followed her here.
"This is indeed, Shadow~ ... this way," Nerissa murmured as she led him inside the place. There wasn’t a hint of intimidation on her face. She looked absolutely at ease, as if she had been here multiple times.
As they were about to turn around the corner, someone called for her, "Ohho~ .... Isn’t this Neri, the ace? Why have you come here?"
Both Nerissa and Chris turned to look at the person, simultaneously.
Nerissa’s face changed from normal to something close to icy cold as she spat, "What is it, Bra~nd~on?"
"What is it, you ask? You tell me, what are you doing here, huhh? Crawling back to get into some pants? Why don’t you start with mine?" he commented, checking her out from head to toe, his gaze leery. He licked his lips while rubbing his rod over his pants.
Nerissa scoffed, "You wish, you horny wild piece of shit. I guess that’s why the boss here doesn’t trust you enough to give you any important task. Hahh. What~ ... afraid I will take your place once again?" She giggled at his reactions. The colour on his face kept changing from black to blue to a raging red. "Don’t waste my time with your foolish bickering. We’ll be on our way. Come~ ... Shadow," she took Chris’s hand and started walking.
"You bitch, dare to ignore me?" Brandon tried to lunge at her, but with just a simple shove from Nerissa, he slammed into the counter.
Chris’s eyes widened in disbelief, his mouth agape. "Wasn’t I cool?" Nerissa asked, flipping her hair
"Huhh?" Chris was too stunned to answer.
"Hahaha~ ... I guess you got flustered. Don’t worry, I don’t hit my clients," saying that, she turned around the corner.
"You used to work here?" Chris asked.
"Ummhmm~ ... initially, but not for too long," she remarked as they halted her steps abruptly. "We are here. From now on~ ... just follow my lead," She then pressed both her hands against the door together, forcing it open. Gracefully walking in her stilettos, she entered the dimly lit room.
Chris followed as the door closed behind him. His eyes darted as a stifling feeling hit him. The air here was oppressive. Iris’s potion was helping him in many ways. Otherwise, he would have fainted by now.
"What brings you here?" an abrupt voice echoed, making Chris shudder as his eyes flitted around. He was trying to search for the source but couldn’t find any.
"Boss, greetings from Nerissa," she knelt on one knee as her head lowered in a respectful bow. Chris copied her and knelt as well.
A dark figure looked down at the two people and started descending from the wooden stairs; the sound of each of his steps reverberated.
"Rise," he said as he stood right in front of them. Both Nerissa and Chris got up. Chris was momentarily stunned to see the person. ’He looks way too young for a person to be running such a den? Is he~ ... by chance a vampire? No~ ... he can’t be. He doesn’t look like one.’
The person glanced at Chris and then at Nerissa, asking, "What are you here for?"
"Boss~ ... I am here to seek your help," she said, her voice steady, her posture upright.
"I am not your boss, not anymore," he replied casually as he took his seat, crossing his legs. "Just call me, Halo~ .... and what kind of help did the S-level even need?"
Nerissa chewed on her lower lip and stepped forward, "Don’t say that. Actually, this man with me~ ... he is the one who needs your help." She pointed towards Chris, whose body went stiff.
But he was quick to compose himself as he too stepped forward and said, "Nerissa told me that you have information about what I am looking for?"
"No introduction? Jumping straight to the point, huhh? You must be in dire need, hahh," Halo remarked. "But it’s rude not to tell your name first," he tossed his words in tauntingly.
"My apologies. I am Shadow," Chris quickly rectified.
Halo nodded, "Sit down and brief me."
They both settled down as Chris looked him in the eye and said, "I am looking for something called~ ... gold blood." He then paused, gauging Halo’s reaction, but the other person was neither dumfounded nor flinched, unlike others. Instead, he just nodded. He then continued, "There is someone who needs it urgently."
The room fell into a suffocating silence. Then, after a minute passed, Halo spoke, "That’s it?"
"You can ask for any price, anything. But I need the gold blood," Chris said, his voice stern.
"Anything?? That’s quite bold of you. What if I ask for all your fortune, as clearly~ ... you don’t have any powers because of your human origins," Halo said casually.
Chris was stunned by his words. "How did he you~ ...." His eyes then shifted to Nerissa.
Halo chuckled and said, "Do you really think you can hide your identity from me, in my own space, Chris Shadow, the vampire king’s right-hand man? Think again."
Chris got up immediately as his eyes narrowed with suspicion, "Who are you?" He was ready to take out the dagger he had hidden in his sleeves.
Halo smiled sinisterly instead, "Scared? Want to use that weapon on me? Poor thing~ .... trying on the wrong person." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
The next second, Chris dropped to the floor. With his bloodshot eyes, he looked at Nerissa and mumbled, "You~ ... you~ ..." he then lost consciousness.
Halo patted Nerissa’s head gently, "You did well, Neri. You did very well. Now, undress him and bring all his belongings to me. After that, bury him in the mountain." He commanded as two robust males came from nowhere.
Nerissa smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
