Chapter 239: Emotions Are A Distraction?

[RANIA]

For days, the misfits had made their journey to the south of Calindra. They had followed Rania who had led the way here. It had been an exciting journey, save for the animals of the night.

Of course, as usual, Dalrae had tried to suggest that they use portals, but Raai had been against it for obvious reasons.

Yanna’s shelter seemed to move over time, and there was no telling where the portal would lead them, was the place where they would be the woman’s main camp, or even find the stench of the woman.

Needless to say, Daehyun had been in that shelter once, and even he didn’t know where that goddamn shelter was. It was like Yanna had done a bunch of things to confuse the fuck out of the Calindra beta.

Then again, it had been a quest to survive Yanna, and that wasn’t exactly the easiest thing.

Though as they made their way to the shelter that was hidden in plain sight, Daehyun couldn’t help but wonder what the hell was going to happen to them.

’Are you okay, brother?’ Daehyu asked when he noticed that Jihoon had slowed down.

They were currently in the same cage that was still chained to Kaia’s arms. The man had made them float on air, with their cage and it was unsettling.

They felt like puking every time they were hit with a rough wave of winds, though that was something that Jihoon had noticed Kaia had been doing intentionally.

The bastard didn’t want them getting comfortable, but which wolf would ever get comfortable in a cage, when he had lost his family and everyone that actually meant something to him?

It was just the cruelest thing that they had faced and to think that it came from the mate he was supposed to be with and the woman who had loved him.

However even with everything that happened, Jihoon didn’t have the intense urge to kill Rania, maybe because he hadn’t realized that his father was dead.

But even if he knew, there wasn’t a single thing on the planet that he would be able to do to her. He could have used the mate bond, but Rania had closed off her links and declared that she wasn’t looking for a mate.

’Yes, and you?’ Jihoon lied in the mindlink that he shared with Daehyun. They were here because of him and Jihoon didn’t want to burden his best friend with any more crazy ideas.

If only he hadn’t tried to be a dick to Rania, maybe she wouldn’t have burned down their pack and turned their home into a market.

Maybe their people wouldn’t have run away and wouldn’t have been displaced.

Maybe if he had been a good person, his mother wouldn’t have had to deal with the loss of her only family.

It was heartbreaking in every instance and none of it was about to hand Jihoon the best brother award of the year or even the best son. He had fucked up and he was still going to be fucked up real soon.

Oh how it was scary to imagine what Kim Rania would do to them.

’The shelter we are heading to is a shithole. It smells like a hundred dead people and I don’t think anyone can survive in there,’ Daehyun said and Jihoon looked at him, as if he needed to exalin.

And so Daehyun retold the horrors that he had seen and how he had known that Yanna had been alive. Sure, Jihoon had known that Yanna had interacted with Daehyun, but even he hadn’t been sure to what extent.

But then right now, as they were being dragged through the air and getting hit intentionally by trees along the way of a fate that had been spelled out for them, Jihoon wanted to know the truth about that day, and Daeyhun didn’t hold back.

Meanwhile, as the beta and alpha were in their mindlink working through the dynamic of the madness that was Yanna Petrova, Rania was constantly stealing glances at her mate.

She was feeling a pang in her heart and she felt like a terrible person because she had chained her mate and caged him.

She felt like she should have done better and at the same time, she could feel that she should have done worse to the man.

The fact that her emotions were conflicting was making her feel like she needed professional help. But were there therapists on that side of their land? Was it something that anyone had ever sandyford?

Therapy wasn’t a common thing there and she knew that too, but fuck everything else, Rania felt like a dick for imprisoning her mate. But hadn’t this same man forced her to be a prisoner of all the hate and anger that the realm had?

Hadn’t he made her into the monster the realm had grown to hate and despise despite the fact that all she wanted was to be loved and protected by the mate she had been given?

Fate may have been a son of a bitch, but there wasn’t anyone who could fuck Rania up more than Jihoon had. Funny how that had gotten them here.

"Hey, you’ll be okay," Chang Wook said when he noticed Rania staring.

He knew that she was still in love with the man and he knew that there are some things that Rania couldn’t let him into, like how the fuck Rania had decided to play mates with Kaia, when she had a mate she still adored.

It was hilarious how Jihoon hadn’t said a word after he had heard that Rania and Kaia were mates.

Maybe because he figured it was all bullshit or maybe because she wanted to make him feel the pinch of being rejected and unwanted. It wasn’t that hard to tell, because no matter what happened, karma had made a show.

"Ah, yeah," Rania said absentmindedly and Kaia looked at her.

He could tell that she was uncomfortable with what was happening, so he enlarged the cage and made it so that Jihoon and Daehyun were walking along with them, though they were in the cages.

It was quite strange how Kaia Seto could tell what Rania felt and even get to act on it. Then again, the man himself was a phenomenon that couldn’t be easily understood.

"Thank you," Rania said before they continued their walk in silence.

It however didn’t take long before they got to the house that Yanna had been living in. It looked like a version of hell that had made it to Earth, and the inhabitants had been quick to leave.

Even from a distance, they could smell the stench of the house and the shithole that it was. There was no amount of air freshener that could fix that, but would they need it?

"A rotten house for a girl with a rotten heart," Dalrae commented and Jihoon let out a deep sigh.

It was almost like he himself couldn’t believe how he had ended up in that state but then Yann Petrova sounded like a good enough excuse for all the bad decisions that he had made, right?

"Sadly, this is where we will be sheltering until I find the next clue about her," Rania said and Dalrae let out a long sigh too. This was going to be hell for all of them.
