Chapter 237: It Wouldn’t Be Her If It Wasn’t Weird

[JUNGWOO]

The crown prince was not sure how to feel. He had always imagined what life would be like when he met his sister. He had thought of the endless times that he would be there for his sister.

And the way he would protect her.

He had practiced over and over every word he would say to her if he saw her again. He had been ready to cross the goddamn ocean for her.

He had been having so many wishes and yet now that he had met her, he wasn’t sure what he could say. He knew his sister was powerful and could also take care of herself.

He was aware that she wasn’t the princess waiting to be saved.

Yanna Petrova had been the girl who braved the wars and faced the worst of things and yet today, her sister had come to seek help and asylum in the palace.

Jungwoo was very curious about what could have happened to make her come to the palace of all the places. Sure the king down would definitely go berserk if they knew what happened but goddamn.

’She had never been a murderer?’ Jungwoo asked himself as he thought of his best friend.

He felt like an idiot for trusting the system and the opinions. He should have trusted Rania but then it wasn’t like Rania herself had given him a reason to trust her.

The woman had crossed the worst of regions to come to save him in the pretense of saving Dalrae’s life, but then now that Jungwoo thought about it, he felt like he had really been wrong.

He should have trusted his best friend, especially when Rania had forcibly sent him to Jihoon instead of her telling him what had happened. She had forced him to believe a version of her that never existed.

She had never been a murderer and Jungwoo felt his heart shatter for the best friend that could have done so much for him.

Rania had stayed loyal to the end.

She had never left her best friend in the mud. She had to have known that Jungwoo could have been heartbroken when he found out his sister was dead at the hands of his best friends.

Maybe that was also why Rania had not killed Yanna. But then wasn’t it a little too late for all of that? The pain she had gone through and her anger that she was retaliating with right now, all of that was justified.

Jungwoo wasn’t sure if he needed to be mad at his sister or be happy that his best friend had always been loyal. He was caught at a crossroads and it wasn’t making him feel any better really.

His heart was constantly breaking and he hated it.

"What are you thinking of, love?" Dong Moonbin asked, and Jungwoo looked at his mate who was staring at him worriedly.

A part of him wanted to ask Moonbin if he had known that Yanna had always been alive, but then he didn’t want his mate being dragged into the middle of all this.

He didn’t want to hurt his mate or even make him feel like this whole bond was just a sham. It wasn’t a sham.

Jungwoo loved his mate.

He adored him and he was worried for him. Then again, it wasn’t Moonbin’s safety that he was worried about. He was just worried about what would happen if he forced his mate to choose between him and his brothers.

Family was important. But then that would be a little too cruel even for him, especially now that he knew that he could easily be wrong and fuck with someone’s life again.

Moonbin was pure at heart and Jungwoo wanted to keep it that way.

Besides, he knew that if he messed with his mate, the band of psychos would descend on him and the palace, and there wasn’t telling what Moonbin himself would do.

Jungwoo didn’t want to see the dark side of his mate. It worried him and he didn’t want to create a monster.

"Yanna is alive. My sister is alive, and in the palace right now," Jungwoo said earnestly and his mate didn’t even seem shocked.

Of course, he was surprised that Yanna was at the palace, but he didn’t look surprised that Yanna was alive. He’d also known for years and years that Kim Rania hadn’t committed the murder.

"Isn’t that something good?" Moonbin asked carefully.

He was aware of how tricky the situation was and he knew that one misstep from him and he would have to pick a side.

And just like Jungwoo, Moonbin didn’t want to do that, because he knew who he would choose and it certainly wasn’t the man before him. It hurt but that was the bitter truth.

"I just don’t know what to think. After all these years and everything that happened, I am not sure if she’s real or if someone is hiding in her form and came to me.

"I never met her, but I saw her fur and it was similar to mine. Maybe I am overthinking it, given that Rani had gone to trial because of her," Jungwoo said and Moonbin just let out a chuckle.

He knew that Jungwoo was worried about it was kinda hilarious seeing the prince so confused about his sister.

"Your sister has deep black fur, and white dots on her paws. And if she transforms into her human form, she has long black hair and a tattoo on her back.

"It’s her birthmark and it’s similar to the one in the books about queen Eunbi. If you didn’t see that, then she isn’t your sister. But if you did, then your sister came, so don’t worry too much," Moonbin said as he pulled his mate towards him.

He didn’t want to see the frown on Jungwoo’s face but this time he knew that it was something that couldn’t be helped.

Love sometimes had ways of making life a little too difficult than originally intended. Maybe it would make sense later. Maybe love and life would come together but then they had to prepare for when that day came for them.

It was either going to be a long sad day or a beautiful day.

"You’ve seen her before?" Jungwoo asked. His tone wasn’t accusing, because he knew that with the history of Moonbin and Rania, not to mention her team of friends, his mate had to have known more.

"Yeah. Twice. Both times, Rani sent me to make sure the plants around her house were not dying and that she could sustain herself while she headed from the stabs.

"I was always curious why she had chosen to save the woman who had taken her mate from her, but now that I met you, I finally realize she never wanted to break your heart. Funny how that happened though.

"You are important to her even to this day and she doesn’t want to hurt you. It’s hilarious that she shows it in the weirdest of ways. But then it wouldn’t be Rani if it wasn’t weird huh," Moonbin said and Jungwoo listened.

It was like he was being introduced to a version of his best friend that he didn’t know of. This was new and he wished he would have trusted Rani even more. He didn’t know what he was to do.

"Me?"

"Yes. She did it for you, otherwise, she would have eliminated her long ago."
