Chapter 135: The Enemy’s Long Camp

[JIHOON]

Daehyung being pissed as he walked back to where Jihoon was, was an understatement. He looked like he wanted a fight with the fates and wanted to make sure someone paid for all the chaos that had happened.

It could have been easier for him if Rania was around, but then the way Yanna had spoken about Rania had somehow convinced Daehyun of a possible catastrophe.

There was a hint of madness and truth in them but then Daehyun wouldn’t know for sure if Yanna was playing around or being serious about what had happened to her and Rania. It all just didn’t make any sense, but what if there was a truth to it?

If what Yanna had said was true, then the whole kingdom had fucked up the life of an innocent woman, one who just wanted her mate?

"Fuck," Daehyun cursed as he hurried towards Jihoon. It was already dark and honestly, he wished that the Odelia troll could find Yanna and make their lives a little easier. There were so many blank spaces so many things that bothered him and he felt like lashing out.

"Where is he now?" Daehyun asked when he got to Jihoon. He could smell his scent but then he couldn’t quite pinpoint where he was. After a few more minutes of looking around and he saw his best friend still unconscious, oblivious to the situation.

Oh, how Daehyun wished he could be like Jihoon this time. Just this once, he wished he was oblivious to everything and just sleeping like tomorrow wasn’t an issue. But then tomorrow itself was like a plague one that they had to find a way to work through.

"Fate must really hate you both for you to be suffering like this," Daehyun whispered sadly as he looked at his best friend.

Jhoon had been suffering for a long time and with the new findings, Daehyun finally understood what he had heard in Rania’s room months ago at the palace. They had been fighting the wrong person, but was there anything that they would be able to do this time?

Sighing, Daehyun walked over to his friend, and carried him on his back, as he continued the road to Incayon. He wasn’t sure what Jihon’s intention was, for going to Incayon, but he was excited to see it through.

Maybe then they would get over this phase of an irrational alpha and get back the man they loved and knew over the years. Maybe after the festival, all the answers would be available, but would they?

That night, Daehyun settled with his friend in the woods close to Incayon’s border. It was the best he could do given that he wasn’t sure where the alpha wanted to be at the moment. However, they would worry about that when tomorrow came anyway.

"Sleep well, brother."

"Fuck, my head hurts," Jihoon complained when he woke up at dawn.

He could feel his head pounding and he was sure it was about to explode. He couldn’t quite remember what had happened yesterday, but one thing he was sure of, was that he wasn’t going to go back home to Calindra, without finding his answer.

It was that simple and come rain come sunshine, he would get them. He didn’t care who he would have to cross, but first, he needed to find a way to make his headache go away, otherwise, he would be whining the whole day.

’I’m sorry, for dragging you into my mess, brother,’ Jihoon thought as he looked at a calmly sleeping Daehyun. His best friend looked calm despite the fact that they had clearly spent the night in the woods and with the mosquitoes biting on them.

Maybe it was a cruel decision, but Jihoon himself wasn’t sure how he got here. Maybe his brother would have answers for him, but why did he feel like more had happened that he couldn’t account for at the moment?

Defeatedly, he went back to sleep, in the hope that when the sun came up, he would be better. But would be, when he had the weight of the unknown pressing down on him like an enemy in a battlefield that never favored him?

"Wake up, Daehyun. You’ve been sleeping the whole morning. We have to shift camp," Jihoon said and Daehyun shifted in his sleep. He was not ready to wake up yet and clearly wanted more time on his very hard and unnatural bed.

"Shift camp? What happened? Did Dalrae come for you? What is happening? Are you okay?" Daehyun asked, just holding himself back before he could ask his best friend if he had seen Yanna.

Yanna Park was still a sore topic for the Calindra alpha and if she hadn’t made a show to Jihoon, Daehyun wasn’t going to be the one to tell him. Not this time. They had more pressing issues like regaining the sanity of his best friend.

"Relax, I’m okay. Besides, we’re a little far from where I want us to be. Come along, now that you decided to follow me here. We need to hurry," Jihoon said and Daehyun let out a long sigh as he got up and stared at his brother.

There were so many things that he didn’t understand at the moment, but he hoped that there would be better explanations once whatever they were doing right now was over and done with.

"Fine, where are we headed?"Daehuyn asked and Jihoon just helped him up.

In silence, they walked to where Jihoon was leading them to.

It was the one place that he always found his peace. It had been, and was still strange to Daehyun, given Jihoon hated Kim Rania with all of him, but then his favorite spot in the Incayon woods made him feel sane even for a while.

"Godness, aren’t you a creepy ass," Daehyun commented when he saw where they were. They were in the Incayon woods, a little far from the border, but close enough for them to see everything that was happening in the pack.

It was easily the best spot for spying on Incayon and Daehyun could tell that Jihoon had done this more than once.

Was it because he had been spying on Kim Rania to get new tactics to make the woman’s life miserable since they were mortal enemies, or was this a spot secluded for Jihoon to check on his mate?

Those were questions that Daehuyun once again wanted to ask, but just like the other questions, he couldn’t. He didn’t want to raise suspicions, even though he was still in shock himself. So much was going on and it wasn’t healthy in any way.

No matter what their mission was, they needed to be very careful lest they blow it all up.

"Did you come here because you are planning on going to war with Incayon?" Daehyun asked, seeing as this was the only thing he could manage. He wasn’t sure what it ment but surely it had to be something more reasonable right?

Jihoon looked at his beta, not giving him any answers, and instead, just sears them with dirt to cover up their scents. It was annoying but then it was a given because if they weren’t careful, they would raise so many brows. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"I hope you’re not going to war with Incayon like this," Daehyun whispered sadly, like it was supposed to make everything better. Then again, even he didn’t believe the words that came out of his mouth.

The alpha he knew wasn’t the kind to stalk his enemies for war. If he wanted war, Jihoon would declare it and walk through the front gates. He had never been a coward, and that in itself made this more confusing.

Daehyun knew his alpha was disturbed but then he was worried because he wasn’t sure how long they would have to be trading this. Maybe it didn’t matter, but at some point decisions had to be made.

"You think too much," Jihoon said as he looked at the rival pack in the distance.

He had a lot of thoughts, but he wasn’t sure his beta would ever be able to agree with whatever he was planning. Then again, just like Daehyun, Jihoon had so many questions, and he couldn’t exactly walk through the gates of Incayon to seek them.

So he figured that this was the only way for that.

But was it all because of the festival that was upcoming in Incayon?

"I hope so, brother. I hope it’s not what I think."
