Chapter 134: In Sickness And In Horrendous Health?

[RANIA]

"Why? Why didn’t you fight back? Why did you let yourself get trapped? For fucks sake Rani why the fuck would you stay out there in the cold?" a furious Chang Wook asked as he paced around the house.

He had been staring at Kim Rania for three hours now and in all that time, the woman hadn’t said a word. Instead, she had the audacity to pout at him.

On different occasions, Chang Wok could have budged because she never intentionally put herself in trouble, until three days ago, and honestly it was making him wonder if the woman was even in the right mind to be left alone.

"Tell me, love. Why? I am tormented by the idea of you being hurt and me not being able to fight the person who did that to you because you did it to yourself. So tell me, why would you hurt yourself like that?

"Why would you go there knowing so well that you would be in trouble and wouldn’t be able to get off on your own?" Chang Wook asked frustratedly, and this time, Rania looked at him before getting up and patting his shoulder calmly like it was supposed to make him feel better.

Maybe it did, but clearly it didn’t because instead of smiling at her, Chang wook looked grim.

He looked like he wanted to lock her up, which could have been easier if Rani wasn’t a powerful white wolf and a strong alpha wolf with anger issues. It could have really been easy then, but it wasn’t. Because Rani was different. She always was.

"Do you enjoy hurting yourself that much?" Chang Wook asked worriedly and this time, he looked at the woman before him.

Kim Rania was beautiful and perfection was a word that did her no justice.

The weight of everything on her shoulders was intense but none was heavier than the fact that she was sure that the mate she was given would never be able to love her, since the warlock who had cast the spell was missing.

It was just hectic on her end.

"Relax it’s not like—" Rania began as she looked at Chang Wook who wasn’t buying her bullshit, then she shrugged.

"You want the truth, right? You really want to know why I saw the trap there and went right in without thinking of how that shit would hurt? Then fine. I will tell you. Have a seat, will you?" Rania said and Chang Wok wondered what the woman was up to this time.

The endless times that he and Rania had been seated, she was always finding a way out of the situation or even giving excuses that didn’t work.

It was a trick that Chang Wook had been sued to and frankly, right now, he knew she would just do it again. So as he sat down, he waited to hear what narrative Kim Rania would be giving him today.

"Yes, I want the truth," Chang Wook voiced, hoping it would be encouraging enough for Rani, but would it be enough?

"I wanted him to feel some of the pain I’m stuck with; to know that it hurts all the time. I know it’s been six years and the universe is definitely counting on the both of us to complete the bond, not to mention to go to each other.

"But I can’t, for obvious reasons. So I wanted to hurt him the way I’ve been hurting. I Wanted him to feel what I deal with each single day. Just this once I wanted to feel like I wasn’t alone with the horrors in my head.

"It bothers me each time and I don’t know what to do. That’s why I did it, alright. I just... It hurts so bad. I didn’t want to worry you with it all, so I figured I could try some other way. It didn’t help as much, but at least I tried, right?" Rania said, laughing humorlessly.

She was sick and tired of everything that was happening to her. Maybe this was her being weak and pathetic, but Rania had been strong for way too long. She had tried to do the right thing and yet each time, she ended up being hurt.

She had tried to hold on, but look where it got her. She was alone, and she felt like no one would ever be able to understand her. She hadn’t intended to worry her friends or even make them out to be that careless, but damn, she had wanted to numb it all.

"Rani—" Chang Wook began and Rani just looked at him. She knew what he was about to say and she knew he was doing it with the right mind, but she just didn’t want anyone feeling bad for her right now.

She wanted to be able to brave everything, even when the horrors were way too much for a young soul like hers.

"I’m okay, I promise. And if I’m not, then I know I will be fine. The sun always comes up at dawn anyway, right? Besides, it’s not like I’m the first woman whose mate doesn’t even know that they are mates, no?" Rania said and this time, it was Chang Wook’s turn to chuckle.

"No Rani. You’re not okay, and I wouldn’t want you to give me all that shit about living a happy life when we both know that every time you think about him, you end up getting hurt. Don’t give me that bullshit, love," Chang Wook said and Rani just smiled sadly.

Her friends knew her a little too well and maybe she didn’t have to pretend to be strong anymore, right? Maybe she just had to let herself live life and see what would happen. After all, fate was a cruel son o a bitch anyway and the goddess was the devil’s sister.

"I mean—" Rania tried and Chang Wook just stared at her softly. He understood her so well. He knew that this wasn’t what she deserved and just like Rania’s group of friends, he knew what the consequences of this would be, so he wasn’t surprised as much.

"You have ten years on this side of the realm and we can’t really have you breaking your heart each time. So join me at the cafe. You won’t have to do anything other than serve people food, and you will even earn a wage.

"You can forget about the pain for a mome—" Chang Wook began when Rani interrupted him.

She was used to being hopeful at times, but there were days like these, when she wasn’t sure if she was capable of letting herself live it through. Perhaps her fate would change and perhaps, there would be better days, right?

But what if there was someone else somewhere, someone who

"I accept. A life without war, I want to try that," Rania said, making Chang Wook look at her like he hadn’t heard her well. He was read with a whole script to convince Rania to lead a simple and boring life, and her just accepting so fast, was new.

"But only for five years. If I don’t like it after five years, you must not try and convince me, alright?"

"Deal," Rani said even though she was terrified of the kind of relay that was waiting for her on the other side of life.
