Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 124: The Borrowed Lifeline?
[DALRAE]
Having found a hint of what she wanted, Dalrae, and her warrior, spent the night in the woods as they waited for morning to come. They knew that Incayon was just five hours away, but Dalrae wanted to let out some steam and relax.
She just didn’t have the patience to deal with her people at the moment. It wasn’t what her people would have wanted to hear, but it was the truth.
Dalrae was worried sick about Rania and each question she asked was always met with more questions, most of which she knew she would probably never get to what straight answers from.
The Incayon alpha watched as Kylian slept peacefully in the night and she wondered if there would ever come a day when she would be able to be that peaceful. Sure, she could if she abandoned Rania, but that wasn’t even a choice for her.
She valued Rania so much and had sworn to always be there for her. Maybe someday, things would be better and they would all be happy, but until then, she would spend the night watching the crescent moon tonight.
"Where is Rani now?" A familiar voice interrupted Dalrae’s line of thoughts. Whoever it was, had to either have been close with Rania or knew Rania for a while now, for them to refer to Rania as Rani. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Seeing you here and vulnerable without that psycho protecting you is really a joy. Maybe I can just kill you and watch as she blames herself again for something that she didn’t even do.
"Oh but I must admit, watching Rani suffer gives me a sense of satisfaction," the voice said and it took everything in Dalrae not to wake up and swing the woman’s neck.
The longer Dalrae listened to the voice talk about Rani and how the suffering was intense, Dalrae was finally convinced that she had heard that voice somewhere else. And she could tell that it wasn’t in a nicer setting.
"Y’know, I wonder why she keeps protecting you. I wonder why she even bothers to save your life each time I endanger it. It’s not like you’re special, no? Besides, you’re just another orphan in Incayon.
"Only Rani makes you come off as a special creature but without her, you’re nothing. And it’s ironic, that I can’t even harm you because if I do, she will burn down Obren for you. Is she your mate or something?" the voice insisted and Dalrae felt the urge to smack her into the night.
Once again, she had learned something that she wasn’t meant to. The fact that Rani always protected her, from this sinister woman and she didn’t even have the slightest clue about it. What the hell was Dalrae to Rani?
"Well, if she doesn’t kill you again, I will do it for her," Dalrae responded as she opened her eyes to see a smug-looking Yanna Park staring at her.
This woman was dead to everyone; however, Dalrae was smart enough to know that hybrids never came back to life, like normal vampires or wolves. If they died, they would be dead and dead.
But here and now under the moonlight, Yanna Park, Jihoon’s supposed dead mate, was staring at Dalrae. It was almost like she had been waiting for this moment to show up, but then again, how would she have known where Dalrae was or what she was doing?
"Always the feisty one, Lim Dalrae. Aren’t you shocked to see me alive?" Yanna asked, not even bothering to hide her identity anymore.
She knew that there was nothing Dalrae would do to her right now. She was even more certain of it, given that she was the hybrid and Dalrae was just another alpha wolf, one who was no match for Yanna in every aspect, right?
"I’ve seen enough versions of hell that seeing you here doesn’t even worry me. Tell me something, what are you doing in obren? Aren’t dead ugly vampires supposed to be buried in the land of doom or something?" Dalrae asked as she stared at Yanna who was watching smugly.
She knew that this was something that she hadn’t expected but she could even act any more shocked.
She had been through a rough couple of months and frankly, if she woke up to a world where King Nathaniel was the ruler of Obren, Dalrae wouldn’t be surprised.
Shit had happened in Obren more than once and right now, there wasn’t a thing left for her to be shocked about.
"I’m quite disappointed. I thought you would scream in shock, or even wake your warrior up. But instead, you gave him the command to sleep and turn off his hearing. What a boring alpha you are.
"I guess fitting into Rani’s shoes isn’t always going to be easy right?" Yanna asked with a laugh.
Dalrae looked at the woman before her, the very woman who was supposed to be dead. This woman right here was the reason that Rania had been banished from Obren and yet as she sat there staring at Yanna, Dalrae felt nothing.
She was numb to everything and was no longer surprised.
If she had been her normal self, she could have grabbed Yanna and forced her to Calindra or even Incayon and the Obren place for everyone to see that Rani wasn’t a murderer, but Dalrae had a feeling that that is what Yanna was expecting her to do.
To take her to the king and her mate, the mate that was never hers in the first place.
This woman was worse than the devil himself and Dalrae was just not in the mood for her antics.
"Why? Do you want me to let the world know you’re alive? When you’re this cowardly? If you wanted them to know you were alive, you could have done it yourself. But then you think they will assume you are a ghost with issues to fix.
"Anyway, I’m going back to sleep, so you can either sleep too or wander away like the ghost you are. I thought Hybrids were supposed to be intelligent, but you’re just a shell of who you have always been. I guess the books are always right. Vampirism just heightens everything people feel.
"In this case, your inferiority complex is worse than that of the rogues when they meet kings, but hey, who’s counting, right?" Dalrae said with a sinister smile, before she turned to the other side and went on with her sleep, leaving a frustrated Yanna staring at her.
"You’re stupid, just like your sister Rani. Maybe that’s why you both love each other so much. Maybe I should just make the two of you mates, huh?" Yanna said and for a moment, Dalrae’s stopped breathing.
Not because her heart stopped, but because of how much pain that would cause the both of them.
She didn’t even want to think that she would be the reason for Rani’s suffering, but then with what she had learned about Yanna, Dalrae knew the bastard woman would do it if she wanted to.
"Yeah, do that and you will be doing the realm a favor. We will be the unbeatable duo, and this time, she will be back to Obren, as an alpha’s mate, because trust me, I will fight for her to the very end.
"But hey, you wanna make her my mate, no? Do it, I dare you. It will give me a hundred reasons to possibly appreciate Your undead self, because my Rani would be back home and we could be happier than ever.
"Who knows, I could also take Jihoon too," Dalrae said and Yana let out a loud growl, one that was supposed to scare the lands, and Dalrae herself, but the woman sat up, looking at her with a bored face.
"You’re pathetic, no wonder you had to use a witch to do your stupid bidding," Dalrae said to the woman who was glaring daggers at her.
However, Dalrae had learned from the best of the best in the realm, and she knew she was never going to submit to the woman before her.
Maybe it was because she was strong and could hold her own, but maybe it was because Dalrae’s family line wouldn’t let her submit to anyone, but who was she really?
Away from being Rania’s best friend and the orphan girl in Incayon, who was Lim Dalrae?
"I’ll be back to make sure you and Rania are never happy," Yanna warned as she ran away, but not before she heard Dalrae’s response.
"Yeah right, join the queue will you?"
