Chapter 125: The Forgiving Assassin?

[DALRAE]

Seeing Yanna alive was something that Lim Dalrae had never expected in her whole life. She had been there when Rania had stabbed the woman and she was there when the woman had fallen and died.

She was there when Yanna had been buried and hells be damned, Dalrae could remember the rituals that all the alphas had to go through because of one of the fallen lunas.

She had been there, throughout all the stages, and yet just a few hours ago, she had seen the woman again. It was impossible for her to understand what had happened and the dynamics of everything were confusing.

’What did Rania really do then?’ Dalrae asked herself as she watched the sunrise. She had sent Kylian ahead of her even though the poor warrior had tried to stay behind with her. But Dalrae had insisted on taking a breather.

She wanted to be alone, and Kylian understood her.

Of course, he figured that it was still hard to process the fact that Rania had been hurt in the human lands.

Dalrae was confused, and more than anything, she was about to go deaf from the sound of her heart breaking once again. She wanted to understand what had happened. She needed to understand because only then would she be able to know what to do.

’Yanna is alive, fuck,’ Dalrae sighed again and this time, she wondered what else the woman wanted with her.

At first, Dalrae had thought that the woman was a figment of her subconscious, but when she woke up and could still smell Yanna’s stinking scent of the undead hybrid, Dalrae knew that Yanna truly was alive.

Everything the woman had said to her last night made more sense, but then there was something that Dalrae didn’t understand. The fact that Yanna had her chance to make Rania suffer by using Dalrae, and yet last night, Yanna didn’t do anything.

She didn’t even try to hurt Dalrae in the simplest of ways, which was strange. Dalrae was frustrated. And so for the first time since Rania had left, Dalrae let herself break down. She let herself feel all the emotions that she had been feeling for months now.

She let herself reign in the anger she had been feeling from the moment she learned of Rania’s rejection and everything else that had followed.

Dalrae let herself go, and in her sadness, she watched as her clothes got wet with her tears, as her world was clouded by a terrible reality. She watched as her heart broke even more from the thought of Rania suffering for no reason.

She let herself wallow in the pain that came with taking over for Rania and more than anything, Dalrae felt herself mourning Rania’s happiness.

She wished there was a different way out of this, but then she knew there wasn’t.

The choices that were before her weren’t really choices, and so as she wiped her overflowing tears while she walked beside her horse on the way home, Dalrae knew she was done being kind.

She had to prepare for war, because if Rania was away and Yanna was back in the realm, Incayon was in danger and so were her friends. Well, she had to find a way out and fast.

Maybe when the day ended she would get the answers that she needed but until then, she had a smile to fake and a people to be with and protect.

’I hope I’m not too late,’ Dalrae said as she walked back home. It didn’t take her a long time though, because unlike what had felt like her walk of shame across the lands, the Incayon alpha decided to embrace her alpha abilities.

She was the only savior for Incayon at the moment and she could either mourn Rania’s pain or face her reality and that of her sisters. It was time to make sure Yanna didn’t hurt any more people that she cared about.

"What happened here?" Dalrae asked when she reached Incayon and saw that there were little crowds forming. The last time a crowd like this had been seen, was the day when Rania had left home.

It wasn’t exactly a memory that Dalrae wanted to explore but she knew that something was amiss. She didn’t have all the data but she was sure that it wasn’t good. So she looked at her warriors to see for herself if there was a reason for her to worry, but they were too relaxed.

And that could only mean that someone else was here. Someone that had Incayon excited instead of angry or antsy. If the person had been a danger, Dalrae knew that they wouldn’t have even managed to get through the Incayon gates, so who was here?

"The prince is here," one of the warriors said and Dalrae let out a sigh of relief. Maybe because Jungwoo didn’t pose any threats to her people like Yanna was, or maybe because she was thinking that Jungwoo was here because of Yanna.

That could explain the interval, and there was a chance that Jungwo was here to ask her if she had seen Yanna. Dalrae knew she wouldn’t lie to the prince because her people would always come first and perhaps that was also why she didn’t bother to dismiss the crowds.

The people had a right to know who walks through their gates and they had a right to be worried or even happy in any case. And right now, Dalrae just didn’t care about anything other than the safety of her people.

It was the only thing on her mind right now.

"I see. Keep an eye on the pack, all the warriors. Make sure no one gets hurt. If anyone bleeds, I will need to know what happened. Meanwhile, make sure to be psychologically prepared to go to war for Incayon at any moment.

"Something is coming, and it’s coming for Incayon. And I’m going to need my best warriors to defeat it. Besides, who knows, we might just have to sneak Rania in to save us all. Be careful out there and watch out for any suspicious activities.

"Anyone with questions, you can write them down and when I’m done with my meeting with the prince, Kylian can bring the concerns to me. Until then, be vigilant and be my eyes and ears out here. Understood?" Dalrae said to her warriors in the warrior mind link.

She knew how hectic shit was about to get and she hoped to the goddess that people didn’t lose their lives. Granted it was just her being a little too hopeful, but this time, she was sure that things would take a different turn.

"Yes alpha," the warriors responded before embarking on their mission, one that was unknown to the common Incayon wolves.

Walking to her office, Dalrae was curious as to what Rania had done to Yanna, because one thing that dalrae had learned from the very beginning, was that Kim Rania never let her enemy live, unless she wanted them to.

So what was Rania’s reason for not killing Yanna and being done with it?

Why would she pretend and take the blame at the lunar trial?

What the hell was going on in Rani’s mind?

"You’re back," Jungwoo greeted, snapping Dalrae out of her trance.

"And I see you still have no manners as usual. What do you want this time? To prosecute me for kicking your ass in front of the council?"
