Chapter 56 - 56 : Is Finn Really a Ordinary Person?
Bang!
The heavy doors of the church slammed shut, blocking out the cool evening wind. The sound echoed ominously in the cold, hollow hall.
The dim lighting barely illuminated the vast space. The ceiling stretched high, and above, the hollow framework revealed glimpses of the second-floor corridor. Moonlight filtered through the decayed, crumbling roof, casting eerie shadows along the stone walls.
Stepping onto the rotting wooden boards, Finn moved toward the altar. Rows of wooden chairs sat abandoned before the podium, damp and covered in moss. The whole building reeked of decay, forgotten by time, devoid of any trace of life.

"This place is... weird."
Jimmy Woo hesitated at the back, his gaze darting around. A sudden gust of cold air made him shudder involuntarily, his skin crawling.
He pulled his coat tighter around himself and muttered, "It didn't look this big from the outside. Why does the space feel... expanded?"
"Because the entrance is a portal to another dimension," Wanda Maximoff said, her expression darkening. "It's similar to Doctor Strange's Mirror Dimension."
"That explains why S.W.O.R.D. couldn't find any leads."
Finn nodded in realization. He had noticed the subtle distortion in time the moment they stepped inside. The flow of time within the church was slightly out of sync with the outside world—a detail imperceptible to ordinary people, but clear to someone trained in magic.
Wanda's jaw tightened. "Finn, you need to get out of here."
She regretted bringing him along. Whoever was responsible for this—a follower of Mephisto capable of crafting an entire dimension—had to be a high-ranking magician. And she wasn't certain she could handle them.
If she failed, Finn would be caught in the crossfire.
"That's right, I say we wait for reinforcements," Jimmy interjected quickly. "S.W.O.R.D.'s task force will be here any minute."
He turned back toward the doors, eager to leave.
"Jimmy, do you really think we can just walk out?" Finn's grip tightened around Wanda's hand. "If we're inside the enemy's domain, they won't let us go that easily."
Bang, bang, bang!
Jimmy yanked at the door handles, his face paling as he realized—
"Shit. It's locked."
No matter how hard he pulled, the doors wouldn't budge.
"We're trapped," he muttered, his voice edged with frustration. "We should've waited outside."
Boom!
The floorboards trembled beneath them. The shaking intensified, and within moments, the surroundings began to change.
Wooden chairs corroded, crumbling into dust. The pulpit at the front of the church and even the statue of Jesus disintegrated into nothingness. Within mere seconds, the decrepit church had transformed into a vast, open hall.
Wanda's eyes darted around. "Be ready. He's coming."
She instinctively moved in front of Finn, her fingers glowing red with raw energy.
Boom!
The stone floor cracked open, revealing four massive pillars etched with intricate, glowing runes. Symbols pulsed with dark energy, forming a ritualistic pattern at the center of the hall.
A figure emerged from the darkness, stepping forward from the shadows.
Dressed in flowing black robes, the man pulled back his hood, revealing a pale face. Dark circles ringed his eyes, and sinister black markings traced the edges of his skin. Spreading his arms, he spoke in a chilling voice:
"I am the Apostle of Mephisto—Nightmare's chosen vessel. Welcome to the sacred ceremony."
Finn, unimpressed, quirked an eyebrow. "Wow. You look like you haven't slept in weeks. Maybe cut back on the blood sacrifices?"
Wanda shot him a look. "Finn, not now."
"Seriously, though. Dude's got the whole 'I-never-sleep' aesthetic down," Finn added, unbothered by the murderous aura radiating from the man.
The apostle's face twitched. His gaze snapped toward Finn, eyes narrowing. "Boy, if you weren't hiding behind the Scarlet Witch, you'd be dead already."
Finn smirked, leaning back slightly. "Wanda, he's threatening me."
Wanda let out an exasperated sigh. "Stop provoking him."
The apostle ignored Finn, turning his attention fully to Wanda. "You know what I seek, Scarlet Witch."
Wanda's expression hardened. "You want Chaos Magic."
Finn, standing beside her, suddenly straightened. His voice lost its usual humor. "Another one? That's getting old."
The apostle's lips curled into a wicked grin. "I do not seek it for myself. I wish to offer it to Nightmare."
His hands ran over the symbols on the pillars, his eyes filled with twisted reverence. "I've waited for you, Wanda. I knew you'd return to Westview."
A cold realization settled in Wanda's stomach.
"You leaked the clues to S.W.O.R.D., didn't you? You led us here."
The apostle's grin widened. "I merely set the stage. You walked into the trap on your own."
Wanda clenched her fists, energy crackling at her fingertips. "Bastard."
"So..." The apostle spread his arms. "Prepare to be sacrificed."
With a snap of his fingers, the darkness surged.
Figures emerged from the shadows, surrounding them. Dozens, then hundreds of them—men, women, and children—staring vacantly, moving like lifeless marionettes.
Wanda's breath hitched. "No..."
Among the lifeless faces, she recognized someone.
"Josie?!"
A young girl, no older than eight, stood among the throng, her once-bright eyes devoid of emotion.
Wanda's rage burned hotter. "These people—these are the missing victims?! You monster!"
Finn's expression darkened. "More than a thousand people... mostly children. You absolute bastard."
The apostle laughed, his voice dripping with sadistic amusement. "Sacrifices must be made for the greater good."
His tone shifted, colder than ice. "Seize the Scarlet Witch. Kill the rest."
The lifeless horde snapped their heads upward, eyes locking onto Finn and the others.
Then they attacked.
A tidal wave of bodies surged forward, moving with terrifying speed. The first rows were filled with children.
"Shit!"
Wanda barely had time to react. With a burst of energy, she threw up a glowing red barrier, enclosing their group within its protective shell.
Jimmy clutched his gun. "What do we do?! He's got an army of kids!"
Finn exhaled sharply, eyes scanning the situation. "We can't fight them. We need to break his hold."

Wanda's hands trembled as she strengthened the barrier. The possessed children clawed at the energy, their hollow eyes fixated on them.
She knew they couldn't hold out forever.
And the Apostle of Nightmare was still watching, his twisted smile widening in the shadows.
Jimmy Woo looked at the dreamwalker frantically flapping the protective cover outside, gripping his gun tightly, hesitation evident in his stance.
"Don't shoot."
Finn pressed down the muzzle of the gun in his hand and said in a deep voice, "It's useless to kill innocent people. The Apostle will just find more."
Then he turned to Wanda beside him and reminded her, "Witch, there aren't many people on Earth who can resist the psychic attack of Chaos Magic."
"Let me try."
Wanda nodded, slowly closing her eyes. She took a deep breath, clenching her hands slightly.
Whoosh!
In an instant, she opened her eyes again and found herself in a dim world. Countless weeping figures surrounded her, trembling in the darkness with fear.
These were the souls of the dreamwalkers, all gathered together.
"Josie."
Wanda spotted one of the figures immediately. A little girl, sobbing and shaking with fear.
Tendrils of black aura wrapped around her body, steadily eating away at her.
"Josie, wake up."
Wanda stepped forward, speaking again in an attempt to pull the girl back.
But there was no response.
Seeing this, Wanda had no choice but to extend her hands, gathering scarlet Chaos Energy. The power pulsed, surging and accumulating, until even her eyes gleamed red with raw energy.
Meanwhile, in the real world—
Wanda stood still with closed eyes. Scarlet light enveloped her, and the rising energy distorted the air itself.
"This is Chaos Magic..."
At the center of the hall, the Apostle Carat stood before the towering pillar, his expression shifting as he felt the terrifying surge of energy. His heart clenched with unease.
Boom!
A pulse of energy erupted from the scarlet shield Wanda had conjured, sweeping outward like a wave.
Anyone touched by the red light froze in place, their expressions blank.
A few seconds later, their vacant eyes regained clarity as they blinked in confusion, glancing around in bewilderment.
"Witch, you're amazing."
Finn wasn't surprised. From the start, he never doubted Wanda's abilities.
After all, she wielded Chaos Magic. Even with only a beginner's grasp of the Darkhold, dealing with one of Mephisto's apostles was hardly a challenge.
Put simply, Wanda was overpowered. Even without formal training, her potential was limitless. And right now, she was a dedicated and disciplined witch.
"I just did what you said."
Wanda opened her eyes, relief washing over her as she confirmed that all the dreamwalkers had woken up.
" You finally came to save me!"
Josie suddenly burst through the crowd, throwing herself into Wanda's arms, her voice full of distress. "That bad man caught me here just now."
Finn raised an eyebrow at the little girl's words. He turned his gaze to Apostle Carat in the distance, noting how his gaunt features and sunken eyes did, in fact, make him look eerily like Gargamel from The Smurfs.
" can you catch that bad guy for me?"
Wanda gently stroked Josie's head, then turned her attention back to Carat.
The Apostle met her gaze, yet his eyes held no fear. "Chaos Magic is powerful indeed. If I dedicate you to Lord Mephisto, I will surely be rewarded..."
"You're really asking for it."
Before he could finish his sentence, Wanda shot forward. Crimson light wrapped around the pillar he stood beside, and with a sharp pull—
Boom!
The structure collapsed into a shower of debris, burying Carat beneath it.
"Finn, take them and get out of here."
Wanda hovered in mid-air, her voice firm as she turned toward Finn.
"Don't even think about staying behind alone!"
Bang!
A sudden force sent shards of stone flying as dark energy burst from the wreckage.
The Apostle Carat emerged, his entire form cloaked in black aura. He floated above them, eyes glowing with a sinister light.
"Still standing?"
Wanda didn't hesitate. With a flick of her wrist, she unleashed another scarlet beam.
Boom!
Carat raised a hand, summoning a vortex of black mist to shield himself. The collision sent powerful shockwaves rippling through the room.
The force of the clash sent everyone scrambling for cover.
"Oh, great..." Jimmy Woo pressed himself against a nearby table, watching the battle unfold. He turned to Finn, who still had Josie clutched against him. "Finn, you're with Wanda all the time. You didn't learn a few magic tricks from her? Can't you open that door? Otherwise, none of us are getting out."
"That's not an option. Unless Carat is dead, the space will remain sealed."
Finn's gaze flicked between Wanda and Carat, something unreadable in his expression.
"What?!" Jimmy's face twisted with frustration. "So we're screwed."
Above them, crimson and black energy clashed violently, filling the air with tension. It was like two massive hands locked in a battle of pure power.
But there was a difference.
The black mist faltered against Wanda's raw magic. The scarlet energy pushed forward, steadily swallowing the darkness.
"Damn it..."
Sweat trickled down Carat's forehead. He gritted his teeth, realizing he had severely underestimated the Scarlet Witch.
To be precise, he had underestimated Chaos Magic itself.
He had assumed that without formal training, she would be manageable—even with such power at her disposal.
He was wrong.
"Carat, surrender."
Wanda saw his struggle and didn't let up. The red glow in her eyes intensified as she unleashed another surge of power.
Carat cursed under his breath.
His eyes darted downward.
"Boy, I almost forgot about you."
Carat's gaze locked onto Finn and Josie, who were crouched behind a table.
He had done his research. He knew Finn's identity.
He also knew that the man was no sorcerer. Just a human.
"What are you up to?"
Wanda noticed his sudden shift in focus and immediately felt uneasy.
Her heart clenched as realization struck her.
Boom!
Carat vanished in an instant.
Reappearing directly above Finn.
A monstrous wave of black mist coalesced, taking the form of a giant bat that came crashing down upon them.
Boom!
"Finn, move!"
Wanda's heart dropped. A deep, suffocating panic overtook her as she launched herself toward him.
Jimmy fumbled for his gun, but at the worst possible moment—it jammed.
Monica had no weapon.
And in that moment—
Carat's skeletal hand reached for Finn and Josie.
But Finn didn't run.
He simply looked up at Carat.
A dim light flickered in his eyes. There was no fear.
Just amusement.
"Right on time."
