Chapter 39: Ch-39: Fierce Bidding

"First, we will bid on this book," the beautiful woman said as she pushed forward the Area of Healing Warlock skill. Victor did not care about this one and did not show much interest, which caught Rina’s attention.

"Looks like you are not interested, then I will claim this one. My family’s bloodline is very suitable for it," Rina smiled at Victor, who just shrugged his shoulders.

Of course, Victor knew the Roshfields were famous for their Light and Healing Warlock Bloodlines, which were even rarer than the Lightning Bloodline.

"The bidding will begin from 0 gold coins," the auctioneer said, and everyone from the VIP section started throwing in their bids.

"500 gold coins!"

"1000 gold coins!"

"10,000 gold coins!"

Everyone froze upon seeing the high bid and looked at the VIP section. This person was not wearing any disguise, so many recognized him, and their expressions changed.

"Looks like it’s the mayor of Moonlight City."

"If he is bidding, then he has already secured it. No one would dare bid against him."

The middle-aged man looked pleased seeing the reaction of the crowd and the VIPs pulling out of the bidding. Even though many did not recognize him in the VIP room, seeing others retreat, they also chose not to continue bidding against him, as they would rather not provoke someone they had no idea about, and judging by the others’ reactions, he seemed powerful.

The auctioneer was displeased but kept a polite smile. "10,000 gold coins, going once... going twice..."

But before she could finish, another voice interrupted her, "30,000 gold coins."

Rina raised her hand and placed the bid indifferently. Everyone instinctively turned their heads and looked at Rina. First of all, they were left awestruck by her beauty.

"Holy, who is this beauty? She dares to bid against the mayor? That guy is very petty and vindictive."

"Sshh, lower your voice. She must be from outside the city; otherwise, someone with her beauty would be famous here."

"Could she be some kind of noble?"

"Pfft, why would a noble attend such a low-class auction?"

The mayor narrowed his eyes at Rina and snorted as he continued bidding and raised it to 38,000 gold coins.

"38,000 gold coins for an unknown skill? That’s madness!" the audience couldn’t believe it.

"We have 38,000 gold coins!!! Will anyone beat this number?!" the auctioneer seemed more excited than usual, looking at Rina.

"100,000 gold coins," Rina said calmly, and everyone looked at her as if she had grown a second head. Some even wondered if she was a Warlock or knew one personally.

The mayor was frustrated and angry that someone was defying him in his own territory and clenched his fist as a trace of killing intent leaked out. "How dare this bitch..."

Victor raised an eyebrow in amusement and thought, How dare he? Is he seeking death?

Sure enough, Emily looked pissed and was about to release her own killing intent, but Rina stopped her with her hand. Instead, a mischievous smile appeared on her lips.

The people in the VIP room glanced at Rina from the corners of their eyes.

You want to buy something when I am here? Then you will have to ask me for permission first! the mayor sneered coldly in his heart and raised his hand.

"110,000 gold!"

"110,100 gold," Rina calmly responded.

The mayor gnashed his teeth and spoke loudly, "Are you purposely trying to provoke me by adding so little every time?!"

Rina raised an eyebrow at his words, and Emily could not control her temper any longer and mocked, "If you can’t afford them, you should not attend the auction, pauper."

"Holy..."

"This maid... does she know who she provoked?"

"Look, the mayor’s face is turning red with anger."

Sure enough, the mayor seemed like an enraged bull, and his face turned red.

"..."

Rina chuckled after hearing Emily’s words, which only fueled the mayor’s rage even further.

"Good! No one has ever insulted me like this. Since you want to play that game, then I will play as well!"

"120,200 gold!"

"120,300 gold."

"120,400 gold!"

"120,500 gold."

After a few minutes of bidding back and forth, the mayor was finally unable to endure it and burst out in anger, raising the price to an extreme.

"500,000 gold coins! Let’s see how you outbid this!"

Rina calmly looked at him and then raised her voice, "2 million gold coins."

"!!!!" The mayor’s pupils contracted as a look of disbelief appeared on his face. He sat down unwillingly but looked at Rina and Emily with murderous intent. Let’s see what I do to you after the auction.

"2... 2 million gold coins..." the auctioneer stammered, her eyes filled with joy as she imagined the bonus she would receive.

"2 million gold coins! Once... twice... thrice... sold to the young lady!" the auctioneer announced as a young man brought the book to Rina, which she gracefully picked up and put into her storage ring.

"Next, we will be auctioning the last two books together as a pair. The auction will start from 1 gold coin."

"100,000 gold coins," Rina said instantly as soon as the auction started, and this time the mayor did not bid.

Seeing this, the crowd could not help but sigh.

"Looks like she is going to take these two as well."

"Yeah, other than the mayor, no one else can compete with her, and judging by his face, it seems he has no intention."

Just as they thought Rina was going to win the auction, Victor raised his hand.

"10 Tier 0 Monster Cores."

This time, not only the audience but even Rina and Emily looked at him with surprise, because monster cores—even the lowest tier—were more valuable than gold. They did not expect Victor to casually bid monster cores directly.

"100 Tier 0 Monster Cores," Rina announced.

"100?! That’s a surprise—100 bid for the young lady!!" the auctioneer shouted, trembling with excitement.

"200 Monster Cores!" Victor exclaimed again, causing the stunned onlookers to wonder who they were. They realized both of them might be Warlocks. But it was a shame the mayor was not here and had gone to prepare for his own doom. Many were actually looking forward to the mayor’s downfall, as many did not like him for his tyrannical behavior.

"300 Monster Cores!" Rina said.

"500 Monster Cores!" Victor immediately followed the bid.

"500?!...?" The auctioneer couldn’t believe what he had just heard and stuttered in excitement.

Not only her—even the audience forgot about the auction and looked at the spectacle, while the players, on the other hand, were recording such a high-stakes bidding war between NPCs.

"Will the young lady beat this number?" the auctioneer asked, still dazed.

"You underestimate me..." Rina said with a chuckle.

She didn’t care about that as she turned her gaze back to Victor. "1000 Monster Cores."

"1000?!" The auctioneer stuttered, stunned.

"No, you underestimate me—5000 Monster Cores," Victor said, and this bid completely shocked Rina and Emily, who looked at him in disbelief.

Victor did not care, as he had accumulated thousands of cores from hunting monsters.

Is he also from a Duchy? Rina’s eyes narrowed.

"You win," Rina said, as she had not brought so many monster cores with her.

"5000 Monster Cores! Once... twice... thrice... sold to the gentleman!" As his voice fell, an attendant brought the books to him, and he stored them in his inventory.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming. With this, the auction concludes." As the woman’s voice fell, Victor got up and left the room.

---------

After the auction, Victor walked toward the edge of the city but felt new presences. His eyebrows twitched when he saw Rina and Emily walking toward him.

"Do you need something, young lady?" Victor asked politely.

"No, I wanted to invite you to my Duchy," Rina said, which caused Victor to raise an eyebrow.

"I apologize, but I have things to do in my territory," Victor said.

"So you are a noble," Rina’s eyes sparkled.

"..." Victor cursed himself for letting it slip.

"Hah, take this invitation card. If you need something, visit the estate—I will host you," Rina said. Victor took it politely.

"Thank you," he said before leaving.

Rina watched with a smile as Victor left their sight, and then her expression turned cold as she said, "Looks like we have some rats, Emily."

Rina and Emily stopped walking and turned around, and standing a few meters behind them was the mayor along with a few guards.

"Following me all the way out here—what do you want from me? I doubt it’s anything good," Rina asked with a calm expression on her face.

"Since you dared to ruin my face in the Auction House in front of so many people, I will have you pay for it with your life!" the mayor spoke loudly, his face filled with anger.

"Wait a second, what do you mean I ruined your face? Your face looks perfectly fine! I didn’t even touch you!" Rina said with a mocking expression. "If you are going to lie, at least do it better!"

"Th-That’s not what I mean! Are you making fun of me, you bitch?!" the mayor stomped his feet in anger and continued, "Because of you, my reputation was ruined! You even embarrassed me in front of the crowd! I won’t forgive you even if you die!"

"I have decided—since you are a beauty, I will first make you my plaything, and your maid as well. After I am done, I will pass you both along to my guards," the mayor said in a cold voice, and the guards also looked at them with lecherous eyes.

"Emily, finish them quickly," Rina said in an indifferent tone.

"What are you talking about—" but the next moment his words froze in his throat as he saw all the guards lying dead on the ground in a pool of their own blood.

His legs started trembling when he realized he had kicked an iron plate and looked fearfully at Emily, who was walking toward him with killing intent and a bloodied fist.

"W-Wait, I am the mayor assigned by the Kingdom! If you kill me, you will be hunted!" the mayor said. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"Heh, the young lady is from the Roshfield Duchy. For trash like you, even the king won’t bother," Emily said in a mocking tone. Hearing her words, the mayor’s eyes widened in disbelief, and in the next second, he felt tremendous pain in his head as a fist struck him, and Rina watched his head explode from the impact.

"Let’s go," Rina said as Emily followed closely behind.
