Married to my nemesis-Chapter 41: Mask masquerade
The birthday time...
The hall was decorated for the grand celebration, The guests came turn by turn as they stopped at the red carpet entering the venue, and of course, the theme of the party was a masquerade ball, many cars stopped in front of the red carpet but then, a van stopped in front and once the door was opened, children came out of the van dressed in fitting tuxedos and ball gown dresses.
Nicely dressed as professional experts took their time to make them look glorious and fantastic for the event, with their masks worn, they excitedly walked on the red carpet.
Enim who was attending to the guests noticed the arrival of the orphanage children and with an excited look on her face, she excused the guest and then adjusted the silver mask that covered half of her face, gently lifting the skirt of her red ball gown she clicked her heels toward the carpet.
"Oh my gawd, aren’t they amazing?" Enim excitedly exclaimed as she saw the children take photos happily.
"Don’t they look amazing?" She said once again and then she had the photographer take pictures of her and the children.
"Welcome to my birthday party," Enim excitedly said as she hugged the children she could reach, giving kisses to the nearby ones.
"You all look dazzling, I’m sure you’re ready aren’t you?" She questioned as the children nodded.
"Okay, you’ll be taken into the house I’d prepared for you guys, make sure you have a good time, okay?" The children nodded and then one of the assistants came towards them guarding the children into the venue.
The place was reserved for the children since there was going to be a lot of adult content in the party.
"Oh my, Miss Enim, we know you brought orphanage children for the party but we want to know, is there an objective to this?"
Hearing one of the questions of the reporters Enim had a frown.
"What are you saying?" Enim pursued her lips in surprise.
"This is the first time when you rich people remember the poor Isn’t it common for you to use those children for something else?"
"Who gave you that mindset?" Enim was stunned by their words, bewildered.
"Maybe you’ve seen that kind of situation but let me remind you, I was also like them, a homeless person but regardless of that Vixen decided to love me aside from my status. And, I want everyone to remember, that rich people are not people who use the poor, not everyone has the same mindset, and you can’t just judge like that. As for those children, the reason for making them come here is so I could add another memory of joy into their lives inspiring what they think of themselves or the sorrows they are facing. Maybe if everyone had a better mindset then the whole world would be a better place." She retorted as everyone became impressed by her speech, besides, Prudence knew this was something Enim would have wanted, throughout her life, she was at a stage of sorrow and just when she was about to be taken away from those sorrows unfortunately she had to leave the world.
If someone could spread happiness for her amid her pain then maybe she would have had something exciting to leave with, at least something that would have come as a memory of sorrow.
She was reminded of something that made her look around as her eyes scrutinized the environment, she was looking for Vixen.
Since she arrived at the party she hadn’t set her eyes on him.
"I’m coming," she excused herself with a smile, walking towards a table for her to sit, and then she took her phone out to see Vixen’s location.
Just as she was about to see the location, she received a message from Phoebe.
"We’re on our way," she saw the text which had Phoebe relieved, after so many arguments she finally did it, she was able to convince them.
Max and Laurence were willing not to wear good clothes for the party, so they both decided to wear black clothes that assured them the only purpose for their arrival was mourning.
With said looks of sadness on their faces, their clothes were black enough that it was shown they only came to discard their greatest sorrow in mourning Enim.
Phoebe couldn’t help but palm her face at their childish attitude.
"What’s with you guys?"
"What do you mean? Our enemy asked us to come for a party, I wonder who had brought that idea to her mind to give us an invite for her party. At least, if we’re going for the party then is best for her to recognize that she’s dead to us," Max stated and Laurence agreed with him.
"You know what? You guys are behaving like kids."
"We’re behaving like one then why did she decide to invite us, to make us look like we’re having a great relationship? If not because of Prudence then I would have exposed her sins to the world, she’s such a devil-"
"Mum, just for tonight, I promise," she managed to get them to change their outfits.
She was hoping Lia was going to come along but then she objected saying she was going to have an important meeting.
She knew Lia was going to dodge attending the party but then she found a way to get her to come along.
They were all dressed in lavish tuxedos and ball gowns having silver masks on.
"Aren’t you going to use the mask?" Phoebe questioned Lia who was planning on wearing another mask.
"But I’m not sure if it would be appropriate-"
"Aunt Lia, what’s the use of having a brand new silver mask when you have yours already? Listen, there’s no need for us to waste money so use the mask."
"Okay," her aunt nodded with a smile and so she used it as Phoebe was the one who helped her to tightly place it around her face.
"It’s just about time before we find out who the silver masked woman is if it’s aunt or it isn’t," Phoebe messaged Enim.
"Okay, good luck," Enim texted back.
Just when Lia left after wearing a cloth for the party and going to the important meeting first, they were about to move into their cars Phoebe was surprised to see who was the plus-one guest.
She didn’t expect he would come.
"What are you doing here?" Phoebe questioned and then he kindly answered her with a cheerful smile.
"I came for you," the smile on his face reached his cheeks and whether Phoebe felt it or not, just that sentence made her heart thump against her chest.
Zayn looked at her with his mischievous grin heading towards her, her lips pursued speechless but she had goosebumps all over she felt her core had cheering behavior or maybe she felt butterflies.
She was bewildered as she concentrated her eyes on his gaze, could it be possible?
She was waiting, her hands slowly rose to reach for his as he walked towards her but then.
Everything broke like a shattered glass hearing Max’s irritating voice.
"I knew you would come for me, don’t I look great, I’m sure I’m going to seduce all the girls at the party," Max questioned as Zayn shifted his direction and then his gaze landed on Max but before he completely moved away, she was sure of what she saw.
Did she just see Zayn give her a wink?
Phoebe turned around as a small gasp left her lips, she was sure she’d seen the boy give her an inappropriate eyeing.
"What’s wrong with his eyes?" Phoebe disgustingly thought inwardly.
"Max!!" As Phoebe called the two stopped their friendly gesture and then they turned around to see Phoebe’s targeted gaze on them.
"If you two are going to use a car then which car are you going to use?" Phoebe questioned with a daring voice and folded arms as Max’s eyes surveyed the garage.
"There’s no need to think, Aunt Liam has used the first limo and the other one, both I and mum are going to use the second one, you two can use the other cars, unfortunately, the other limos are not available for you guys." She informed.
"Then we could take a lift with you and mum."
"There’s no way I’m going to take a ride with you two, you’ll probably cause a disaster before we arrive at the event," she said with an aggressive attitude, and by that attitude, it was in memory of the time they turned things around when they arrived at her office.
Who knows what might happen to the car if she allows them to come along?
"Okay then we’ll take the van, you and Mum can take the limo," If Phoebe said those words Max stated did not affect her then she was lying, she felt kinda joyful but somehow, she had the feeling of wanting.
She couldn’t believe it.
She felt something was wrong with her emotions.
For crying out loud she has seen other men who were more handsome than Zayn.
"Hmmm, that’s fine," she stated with a small smile.
"Phoebe," called Laurence, Phoebe turned around to leave but before she left she heard Zayn say words to Max which unknowingly to Zayn who didn’t know she heard it and then once again her heart was rising but then it wasn’t a jolting emotion out of joy but a glint of pain.
But she reminded herself, it wasn’t any of her business.
After all, he’s Zayn and she couldn’t be sure if the boy was making things real in his life or if he just wanted to have fun.
After all, that’s how he is.
