Chapter 40: Shower take

"Who’s that boy outside?" Her mother questioned curiously with a devious smile, Phoebe couldn’t help but palm her face.

"Mum, what are you trying to say? You’re already drooling," Phoebe responded nonchalantly as her mum eyed her.

"You spoilt brat, I just want to know who has my daughter’s heart."

"Heart? Mum, you’re speaking out of your imagination, why would I be dating someone?"

"Well then explain the teddy bear, why does it have a big heart with an embroidery writing that says, I love you?"

Phoebe raised the bear to take a look, She had missed this one but then it couldn’t be serious, she annoyingly rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"What’s wrong with you, Mum? I took this from a claw machine but here you’re making it seem like I went on a date."

"Okay, if you say so then was it a boy?"

As much as she wanted to deny that fact, she couldn’t help but confirm her mum.

"Is a boy."

"Oh my, then who’s the boy?"

"What are you guys talking about," Max questioned as he stepped into the area but when he saw what was in Phoebe’s arms, he was stunned.

"Oh my, where did you get this teddy?"

"What’s your business?" She responded rudely.

"Dear, she came with a boy," her mum stated the news which pissed Phoebe as she widened her eyes to look at her mother with a look that asked if she asked her to spread the news.

"A boy?" Max stated out of bewilderment.

"Who’s the boy, Phoebe?" Her mum childishly asked.

"Obviously is Zayn," Max concluded as Laurence’s face turned sour.

"Do you mean Zayn? Like Zayn, Zayn?"

Max nodded like a gossip broadcaster.

"Mum don’t let him give you shi*ful information, he just uttering nonsense, he doesn’t know anything."

"Exactly, how would Zayn and Phoebe be dating? Phoebe has more expectations, she isn’t like that, it can’t be him, right darling?"

Laurence turned to Phoebe for an answer as Phoebe inwardly bit the skin of her lip giving a small smile.

Somehow she knew she wasn’t dating Zayn but for some reason, she felt guilty about lying he wasn’t the one.

"So who’s the boy, if he isn’t Zayn then it’s -"

"Mum trust me I’m sure is Zayn."

"Would you keep quiet?" Laurence stated throwing a pillow at him but he caught it.

"What are you talking about?" Lia came in and then Max exposed everything like his mouth was applied with lubricant which couldn’t be held.

"Oh my dear, that’s so romantic, who’s the boy?" Lia said with a beam of joy on her face.

"For sure is my friend," Max stated, and then this time the pillow that was headed for him got him hit in the face.

"Ouch," Max winced in pain as Laurence looked at him with lethal eyes.

"Mind your tongue, you’re such a blabbermouth."

"Exactly," Phoebe voiced out at his girly attitude.

"Why are you saying such, Laurence?" Lia questioned as Laurence turned to her giving her a sharp look.

"Sister, do you know what you’re saying? Why would Phoebe want to date Zayn?"

"First of all, he’s handsome, well built by that I mean muscular, friendly," Max began to blabber his mouth like he’d experienced a precious angel appear in front of him and then he decided to share it with his sister only God knows what’s gotten into him for him to recommend Zayn as a type but then, his mouth blabbered not until there was a pillow which was throw at him but with his reflexes, he was able to catch the pillow.

"Why do you gossip so much?" His mother asked frustratedly.

"Is not my fault I’m living among women, and wouldn’t be able to contribute to their gossiping habits. Besides, why don’t you think Zayn is a reliable standard for Phoebe to date?"

"First of all, the boy is way younger than Phoebe then why would she want to date someone younger than her, getting closer to him would make the proposal we have for his mother become risky for us, it would seem as though we’re using her son to get what we want," as much as Max wanted to deny the facts his mother laid out, he couldn’t help but see the clear truth which was opened for him, she was right.

"That’s truth both Zayn and Phoebe can’t be for each other," Max said in understanding.

"But, let’s just say, what if they decide to begin to date with one another then what are you going to do?"

"Maybe dealing with you first is the reliable answer, after all that’s the only thing that’s going to make sense," his mother stated with a cunning smile which made Max change the topic.

"Aunt Lia, isn’t it a long time since we’ve gone out so we could spend time together?" He stuttered turning his head from her direction in fear of her piercing eyes.

"Oh my, are we going on a date?"

"Definitely, after all my mother wouldn’t want to go so your the best sweetheart to move along with," Lia couldn’t help but blush at his fluttering words.

"You’re such a darling," she stated as he walked towards her with a small wink.

"We should go to a spa or a cinema, no I think an amusement park would do," Max stated.

"I should first go and change my clothes and take a shower, I’m coming soon honey," Lia said with a chuckle as she went to her room leaving behind both him and his mother in the silent room.

Max purposefully had to walk up to Lia so he wouldn’t see his mother’s expression and now, with just the both of them in the room, the atmosphere was dead silent it could pierce into someone’s skin if it wanted to.

Looking in another direction, he coughed a bit and then pretended like he had a phone call to take.

Pretending to be on a phone call, Laurence walked towards him tapping him on his shoulder.

He turned around a bit pretending there was a ghost at first and then, as he turned to see his mother’s gaze, it was a hostile look as she stared at him with folded arms.

"Hmmm," he stuttered gently bringing his phone down pretending to cut the call.

"Aren’t you going to take me along?"

"Oh, I thought you said you wouldn’t follow along."

"When did I say so?"

"Hmmm," he murmured thinking of what he could say, at least something that could make him escape the trap he collectively landed himself into.

He immediately took his phone as the best solution.

"Sorry mum, I’ll have to take this call," he excused as he walked away to a corner that was not far from Laurence’s position.

"So, where did you say? Oh, I’ll be on the way soon, I’m having my aunt come over that’s if you don’t mind," with his pretending talks, until, he pretended to end the call and then he turned to his mother with an apologetic face.

"Sorry Mum, but we’ll be having someone else tag along, so there wouldn’t be space for you to come along. I’ll have to go now, the person is quite important so I have to tell Aunt Lia that he will follow, I’ll be going now," he stated immediately rushing out of the living room.

Seeing him live, Laurence couldn’t help but feel like kicking him in the butt.

Phoebe took a look at the teddy, it was cute but then, her eyes concentrated on the words that were written.

"I love you," looking at the teddy’s statement, she couldn’t help but think, why would she collect the teddy from Zayn?

Besides, she knew Zayn was such a flirt, how could he get to love her when all he wanted was to get himself some pleasure?

She made it clear to herself, about the teddy, there was no other intention that was hidden in the teddy, she didn’t love him at all.

There was no love in it.

But then, she heaved frustratedly why was she thinking about it when she had no feelings for him?

She was playing dumbo with herself.

If she was to imagine herself loving Zayn then it was a lie, there was nothing like love after all love never existed, it was only written and spelled out in novels and princesses’ fairy tales.

Just with the thought of explaining to herself she couldn’t take it anymore she knew she needed to give up those thoughts.

She stood up from her bed and then she headed to the bathroom and so without taking her clothes off, she turned on the shower tap.

Her head was clouded as she was reminded of the words her mother said, her mum was right, she was way above Zayn why would she like him, especially with the fact that he was just a flirt?

He was good at flirting with women and, she knew she couldn’t be part of his antics.

Phoebe came out as she dressed up, about moving to the closet to enter another room in her room which was her private cinema room, her phone beeped as she received a message.

She walked towards the bed to take her phone just to see the message was from Enim.

"I’ve not gotten a result yet but just to remind you, you have to tell Mum and Max about attending the party, by that time I’ll be able to receive the message unencrypted."

"Okay, with a smiley face," Phoebe texted back.

After the message, Phoebe couldn’t help but heave a deep breath as she sat on her bed, how was she going to convince her mum?

Well if she wanted everyone to attend then she was going to do it even if it meant doing something that might get her into trouble but it wasn’t going to be immediate trouble.

She just hoped they attend, but that would only reveal her aunt’s way.
