Chapter 269: The Aftermath Of War

Arielle couldn’t help but smile awkwardly when Tania asked about her condition. Tania almost cried when she saw Arielle’s legs were bandaged.

"It just sprained, Tania. In a few days, I will be able to walk normally."

Tania wipes her tears. That’s not what made Tania feel sad. She had imagined how painful the princess’ legs were when they tried to escape from the incident earlier. And when they met in the park, Tania could see that Arielle was in pain while cold sweat was dripping down on the princess’s temples.

"Ronan has given his permission for us to stay here for a few more days until I heal and Sasha’s wound gets better," said Arielle comforting Tania who seemed to have no signs of stopping crying.

"Who are you here with?" asked Arielle, trying to distract Tania’s attention.

"I came with Lucas. The Northerners would stealthily return tonight and leave only a few people who were with us from the start. Lucas and Mr. Kael will be with us. That’s what Lucas told me."

"Oh, Lucas is here?"

"I’m talking to the other bodyguard," said Tania while stroking Arielle’s legs gently.

"Don’t worry too much about me, Tania. Sasha needs our attention more than I do."

Tania’s attention turned to Sasha who was lying on the bed next to Arielle, only separated by a white curtain. The old woman came closer to the boy, sitting on the side of his bed while caressing his hair.

"I hope this incident doesn’t traumatize him," said Arielle, who still felt guilty every time she saw Sasha’s condition.

"Sasha is a strong child, Princess. Things like that wouldn’t bother him too much. He will be even more eager to become stronger."

"But he’s just a small child."

Tania holds the hands that had been bandaged.

"Sasha grew up in a tough environment before he met you. Even though he is young, he is mature inside and after all, we are here to help him forget this incident right?" Tania asked Arielle.

"Tania?"

"You have to heal faster to reassure Sasha that you are fine. Sasha said he would protect you no matter what. Therefore, with you being healthy and smiling, as usual, I’m sure Sasha will also have the desire to recover faster."

Arielle nodded in agreement. She showed a relieved smile after hearing what Tania had said.

Tania adjusted the position of Sasha’s blanket and kissed the boy’s forehead briefly. Although she had only known Sasha for a brief moment when she was still in the North, the presence of the child gave her a pleasant feeling.

Tania felt like meeting little Arielle again. Tania got up and made sure that Arielle was lying in a comfortable position. "Go to sleep, you need to rest as much as you can."

"Thank you, Tania."

"With pleasure, Your Highness."

Tania came out of the room after making sure Arielle had gone back to sleep. He joined Lucas and Johan who were sitting at a round table in the center.

"Lord Kael, why don’t you rest inside?" asked Tania who felt sorry for the man who was standing on guard in the dark all alone.

"Lord Kael will never want to come in. He will never listen to any orders other than His Majesty The King," answered Lucas in a low voice.

The doctor who treated Arielle and Sasha had been ordered to see the condition of the survivors from the incident at Nieverdell Palace in the hospital, leaving his wife and two young daughters.

The three of them sat in silence. They thought about what would happen to Nieverdell in the future. Nieverdell’s throne was empty until Prince Archie claimed it.

"I know nothing about the princes of Nieverdell at all, but do you think Prince Archie can calm this turmoil? Tomorrow, when the sun rises and the morning newspapers are distributed, there will definitely be massive chaos throughout the kingdom," Lucas said, breaking the silence.

"Prince Archie huh... He is a smart person, but I rarely see him meddling in politics like Prince Alexis. I often see him spending his free time reading, playing, and riding outside the palace," replied Tania.

"I’m sure Prince Archie will be able to gain the citizens’ trust again," said Johan.

"Hmm?"

"For the citizens of Nieverdell, Prince Archie has his own charisma. I’m the owner of an inn as well as a bar in downtown Nieverdell, so I know that people talk about Prince Archie more than Prince Alexis," Johan explained.

He added, "They always said that Prince Archie was kinder than his brothers. Prince Archie is also often seen taking part in social activities with Queen Rosalie. At least Prince Archie has a higher point of public trust to start everything from scratch."

"Yes, Prince Archie is indeed closer to Queen Rosalie and Princess Andrea than his own mother and sister. However, they didn’t know about what Prince Archie had done. Rumors about Prince Archie being a psychopath and tyrant have been confirmed tonight. He even sacrificed his own family," replied Tania.

John laughed briefly. "It’s true, indeed the rumor was heard in the community, but they chose not to believe it. They prefer a prince who puts on a mask of friendship."

Lucas could only nod because he had never lived in the South like Tania and Johan. He only knew Prince Alexis, who happened to be visiting the North at that time to visit Princess Arielle.

"We will wait for tomorrow’s newspaper and see how the public responds," Lucas said.

The next morning, there was an uproar throughout Nieverdell’s kingdom. The collapse of the Nieverdell became a hot topic in the newspapers. Citizens flocked together to Nieverdell palace to see the current conditions.

Nothing was left and they couldn’t even recognize the burnt bodies that lay around there. The hospital was filled with survivors of the incident.

Neither of them dared to open their mouths to tell what had happened. Starting from the servants to the remaining soldiers, they chose to keep their mouths shut and keep on living.

What happened last night was a nightmare and every time someone discussed it, it became a trigger of trauma that they couldn’t get rid of.

Then, the newspapers were distributed with the latest news.

Prince Archie and Princess Arielle had survived last night’s attack. For the time being, Prince Archie was at the residence of Ambrose Castle belonging to his mother’s family, managing the government while summoning all the nobles regarding the empty throne.

It was an emergency situation, so they might have to carry out the coronation of Prince Archie with the approval of all the remaining palace officials. It was to prevent the ongoing internal conflict.

Prince Archie also said that Princess Arielle was in good shape and under his protection. However, he didn’t share information about the source of the conflict that occurred on the night of the festival last night. He just said that everything had settled up.

In addition, Prince Archie said that as the two kingdoms worked together, they got help from the North to rebuild the palace again.

"Since when did our kingdom cooperate with the Northendell Kingdom?" asked one of the citizens.

Tania sharpened her hearing while choosing the bread she wanted to buy.

"You did not know? One of our princesses is going to marry King Northendell!"
