Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 218: Waiting For Ronan To Transform
<Meanwhile in Northendell>
That night, it was snowing very heavily. Lazarus was on guard with another knight near the gate. From where he was, he could see the palace’s lights starting to turn off one by one.
This particular night of the month was one of the things that Lazarus hated the most. William and Kael were busy preparing all the soldiers to be on alert. Everyone was busy except him.
Lazarus looked up into the sky and could not find the moon because it was covered by thick clouds. The puff of smoke that came out of his mouth indicated that the air temperature had dropped drastically. This night was much colder than usual.
Night would soon fall and the first howls would be heard. Lazarus, who was lost in thought, was suddenly tapped by William on the shoulder. He turned around and see his friend.
"What is it?" he asked William.
"Accompany me on guard in the dungeon with Kael," William replied.
"Why? I’ll just stay here."
William didn’t listen to Lazarus’ refusal. He put his arm around his best friend’s shoulders then dragged him to come with him.
"Come on, Ronan won’t run away. There’s no need to worry," Lazarus said.
"Last month he managed to escape. So just accompany me and Kael. There’s no need to protest too much."
"Whoa, are you serious? Last month he ran away? How could that be?" asked Lazarus.
He had just heard this news. He was rarely in the palace. Usually after Ronan’s birthday party, he wouldleave the palace to return to sailing on the high seas. So, he almost never got the task of guarding the palace during full moon nights.
However, this time he decided to stay longer because he was waiting for Ronan’s wedding to Princess Arielle and at the same time wanted to see the coronation ceremony when Princess Arielle would be crowned as a queen.
"Yeah, he hit the parapet and it shattered," answered William, approaching Lazarus. "That’s how he got away."
"Had he gone mad?"
William glanced at Lazarus. "Isn’t it a night like this where his mind doesn’t work? So we do have to prepare for the worst."
Lazarus and William descended into the dungeon. Lazarus could see the parapet crumbling down just like what William told her. The hole was so big that the guards must have been quite frightened and fled.
They saw Kael sitting alone by the bonfire holding his great sword. His eyes were closed and his gesture looked solemn. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Yo, Kael!" said Lazarus. Kael just glanced at him and closed his eyes again.
The man stopped in his tracks, surprised at what he was seeing now. A large iron grate was placed in the basement.
Ronan who had not yet entered his wolf phase sat alone at the end of the room with a thick blanket around him. The king locked himself in to protect others.
Lazarus’ heart ached to see his best friend in this position. A caged king? Lazarus looked away unable to see Ronan who just kept his head down.
Lazarus took small steps to sit near Kael. William followed with the blanket in his hand. The three of them sat around the bonfire without speaking. William and Lazarus, who were always noisy, now could only stay silent, not knowing what to say.
Seeing Ronan who was behind the iron bars reminded the three of their childhood. The previous king, Ronan’s father, always punished little Ronan when couldn’t control his wolf by locking him up in a cage.
The three boys often accompanied Ronan and encouraged him to try to be human again. Lazarus even cried when he saw the late king torture Ronan. It actually brought trauma to Lazarus.
"Penny for your thoughts, Lazarus?" said Ronan from behind bars. He tried to make his voice sound nonchalant.
Lazarus lifted his face to see Ronan who was now looking at him. William, who had his back to the iron bars, also looked back. Ronan leaned his head against the iron bars.
"Nothing. I’m not thinking about anything," Lazarus lied.
"Really? You’re not reminiscing about my old man’s treatment, are you? Like me being beaten in iron bars like this," said Ronan jokingly.
Lazarus huffed in annoyance. "Shut up, Ron. I’m not in the mood to talk right now."
"Why? Are you scared?"
"Come on! I’m empathizing with you right now!!!" cried Lazarus who was annoyed.
Ronan finally laughed, making William smile a little. The king then let out a long sigh. From where he was sitting, he couldn’t see anything. There were only earthen walls and iron bars.
"You’re not scared," he said.
"Shut up, Ronan" said Lazarus making Ronan chuckle again.
"Night hasn’t fallen yet?" the man asked.
"You can’t wait to turn into a wolf, huh? It should be a while. Go to sleep, so you’re not in pain," William suggested.
Lazarus picked up a long log in the pyre and played with the fire to relieve his boredom. Ronan could only count the numbers in his head to chase away his thoughts of Arielle.
He missed the girl so much. The last news he got, Arielle had arrived at the palace. Other than that he had not received any news for two days.
Ever since Aielle went to Nieverdell, Ronan couldn’t sleep. His eye bags began to form and darken. He was tired but every time he tried to sleep nightmares always came to him. Dreams about the full night when he lost his family. Nightmares about his memories when his father tortured him as a child.
In addition, he also, without a pause, prepared all the requirements given by Nieverdell so that he could come and get Arielle as soon as possible.
Slowly, His heart was beating very fast. His hands were shaking a sign that he would soon lose control of his body and mind. His throat felt hot.
Ronan stood up a little wobbly. His clothes were getting tighter and tighter and it was making it difficult for him to breathe. His head pounded loudly.
"AAARGHH!!!!" Ronan screamed as his body was forced to transform against his will.
