Chapter 219: Ronan Transforms Into A Wolf

Ronan extended his hand asking for help to William, Kael, and Lazarus who were also now standing facing him.

"H-help..." with that, his consciousness was completely lost.

Suddenly their bonfire died, sending cold air giving the three goosebumps. Now Ronan’s body began to change. The sound of cracking bones and growls filled the entire dungeon. The clothes he was wearing were torn.

Finally, Ronan had turned into a wolf completely.

The wolf growled furiously. The dejected Lazarus took one step closer but the wolf quickly rammed its body against the iron bars trying to bite the man.

The wolf barked at the three of them. Kael pulled William and Lazarus back and sat back down.

"These iron bars are quite strong. This was the property of the former king. So you don’t have to worry," said Kael calming Lazarus who couldn’t stop looking at the big wolf behind the iron bars.

Carefully, Kael lit the bonfire again to accompany the three of them for the rest of the night. Now they could see Ronan in a different form.

The wolf was quite big. It walked around inside iron bars. Whenever William or Lazarus looked at him, he would growl, showing his big sharp fangs. The wolf kept trying to crash into the iron bars making Lazarus unable to stand it.

"Can you shut up!?" he shouted at the wolf.

The wolf barked louder and louder. He let out a long howl that made Lazarus cover his ears.

Lazarus tried to be patient with all the fuss the wolf was making. For hours he stayed where he was, looking at the beast. The wolf was relentless. From the second he transformed, he wouldn’t stop crashing into the bars, barking, or howling.

He hadn’t even lowered himself to sit down at all. If he didn’t growl, he would circle the iron bars. And every time one of the three made a move, the wolf would become more alert and growl as if ready to attack them at any moment.

The dungeon door opened to reveal Lucas who was bringing the three of them dinner and snacks while they waited on Ronan. Lucas turned his head towards the iron bars. His body throbbed as the large wolf growled at him with two red eyes glaring at him.

He could feel a sinister aura. Just like the full moon night when he protected Princess Arielle. Those blood-red eyes shone in the darkness of the night.

"You don’t want to join us here?" William asked Lucas. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Lucas shook his head. "I already have another assignment. Good night."

"Good night, Lucas," William and Lazarus replied.

Kael, who had been silent all this time, became the first to eat.

"How long will our kingdom continue to suffer like this?" asked Kael breaking the silence between the three of them. He sighed.

The wolf howled again.

"Will the future generations continue to confine their king? If Ronan decides to have an heir with princess Arielle, then our prince will go through the same thing like this?" asked Kael once again.

William let out a long sigh too and looked up sadly at the ceiling.

"I do not know," he said dejectedly. "Maybe our predecessors also asked the same thing but never found the answer. Even after years of searching, we haven’t got a single clue as to what really happened."

No one knew for sure where the curse came from. The history of the first Northendell King was so tightly closed and even his descendants didn’t know what had happened.

Some said their queen was a descendant of werewolves who live on Mount Birwick. Some said that the first prince was cursed by the jealous king’s concubine.

Ronan once said he would never have a child because he didn’t want to pass the curse down. William was also initially quite surprised when Ronan said that he would marry Princess Arielle. He didn’t know whether the man had changed his mind about having children or not.

The previous king’s treatment was so cruel that no one at that time dared to approach Ronan except for the three of them who were his loyal friends.

William was sure, without the three of them, Ronan would become an even more unrestrained king. Especially since the bloody event where his father killed his sister on a full moon night and his mother gave him the last wound on his face that would never fade.

Ronan must have been in a lot of torment every full moon night because the memory would always follow him.

William took a bite of the bread to prop his stomach.

"I hope things like this end soon. He deserves to rest. A king doesn’t deserve to be put behind bars like this," William said.

"Ronan still doesn’t want to visit his family’s tomb?" asked Lazarus.

William shook his head. "How can he visit there? It will only remind him of an old memory."

"You were involved in the cremation of the previous king’s body, right?" Lazarus asked Kael.

He nodded slowly. Since that bloody night. The queen and Ronan’s sister were buried near the mansion they came from, while the body of the previous king who was still in the form of a wolf was cremated near the forest for other wild animals to eat. Kael and his father were the ones who lit the fire at that time.

Ronan let out another long howl and Kael could faintly hear another howl. The wild wolves seemed to have heard howls from Ronan and their pack was about to storm the palace.

"The priests are already in their respective positions right?" Kael asked William.

"Yes, they are."

"Good, then there’s nothing to worry about." Kael nodded.

They were forbidden to kill wolves. It was part of the treaty that had been signed by all the kings of the kingdoms in the whole Foresham Continent for hundreds of years.

The only thing they could do was drive the wolves away with the priests’ mana power.
