Chapter 176: Arielle Is Asking Around

Arielle walked towards the Cathedral. She went straight to Priest Elis’ room. She knocked several times with no answer. Arielle, who couldn’t wait, finally decided to open the room.

At first, she was quite surprised when the door just opened. She looked around but could not find Priest Elis there. Arielle sighed in disappointment. The girl immediately closed the door to Priest Elis’ room and then walked down the hall.

It seemed Priest Elis was standing guard in the hall where the globe trigram was. At the crossroads, she accidentally passed by Priest Jill.

"Oh! Good afternoon, Priest Jill!" said Arielle.

"Oh, princess. Are you going to pray?" asked Priest Jill as Arielle greeted him.

"No, no. I’m looking for Priest Elis. Do you know where he is?"

Priest Jill glanced back briefly at the large door that connected the passage to the globe trigram hall.

"I am truly sorry, Your Highness. Priest Elis currently could not be disturbed. He is discussing something with His Majesty the king."

"His Majesty? Is he here too?" asked Arelle surprised.

This morning she woke up alone. After greeting Ronan in his study, Arielle was allowed to study alone in the library. At first, Ronan was a little pushy for Arielle to study in his room, but Arielle refused firmly.

Arielle knew enough that she would never be able to fully concentrate on studying if she did it in his study. Her reading speed was still very slow because she was just learning to read and write.

Even though what she was currently learning was still the basics, Arielle really enjoyed this learning activity. Arielle was getting addicted to reading books. She found a new world here besides painting.

Arielle could sometimes get lost in her reading. Therefore, Arielle chose to study alone. Maybe this was how her siblings felt when they chose to use the royal library for themselves and didn’t want to share.

Also, seeing the many rows of books in Northendell’s library made Arielle increasingly motivated to read more. There was so much to learn.

"If you may know, when will they be finished?" Arielle asked Priest Jill.

"I don’t know for sure. But it seems like it took quite a while because they were discussing important matters."

Arielle nodded in understanding.

"I understand. Thanks for the information, Priest Jill. I’ll be back next time."

"Sorry, I can’t help, Princess," said Priest Jill making Arielle wave her hand quickly.

"Oh, it’s okay. I just wanted to ask something."

"Is it about the book you studied? Maybe I don’t have as much knowledge as Priest Elis, but for some basics, maybe I can help," asked Priest Jill enthusiastically.

He then raised his glasses, waiting for the princess’s answer. Priest Jill was a disciple of Priest Louise, Father of Priest Elis. The man also had a great interest in learning. So he was a little enthusiastic because Priest Elis said Princess Arielle was also busy studying.

"Sorry, but it’s not about that. Just something unimportant."

"Oh, I see," the priest replied, a little disappointed.

"Then I’ll be back first. Good work, Priest Jill! Have a nice day!" said Arielle, who then hurriedly turned to leave the hallway.

Arielle left the Cathedral with unsteady steps. She didn’t know who to ask anymore. She kicked the snow that was near her feet in disappointment.

Arielle was getting more and more gloomy because people were busy with their own activities, while Arielle just walked here and there like she didn’t have a job.

She regretted the time she wasted earlier, it would be very useful if she read some of the books that Priest Elis gave her.

She looked towards the palace gardens, and Lazarus was still there, lying down on a park bench with his eyes closed.

Maybe she was not the only one who was freeloading without anything to do in the palace, Arielle thought. There was still Lazarus whose job was just lying in the garden where the temperature was quite cold with thin clothes.

Arielle wanted to tell him that if he lay in the garden for a long time, it would only make him sick later in life. But again, she canceled her intention.

"Who else can help me? Is there no one else in the palace who can help me?" asked Arielle in a small voice.

Even though Arielle and Lazarus were quite far away, Lazarus was able to hear the girl’s murmurs because the atmosphere in the garden was very quiet. He furrowed his brows, hoping that Arielle would wake him up to ask him for help.

Arielle sighed and then left the palace garden to look for Lucas. Only Lucas she could rely on for now. There was no one else she could turn to for help. Arielle rushed to the Whitethorn palace.

Lazarus, who was half-awake, narrowed his eyes after pretending to sleep when Arielle disappeared. The man rose for a moment and tilted his head.

"Didn’t Princess Arielle see me?" asked Lazarus, a little confused and disappointed. He pursed his lips in a pout and then laid back down again.

Arielle looked for Lucas here and there but couldn’t find him anywhere. She even met again with Tania, who was sitting with the other servants. When she asked Tania where Lucas was, the old woman also said that she hadn’t seen Lucas since this morning.

"Do you need anything, princess? Maybe I can help you instead of Lucas," asked Tania, who saw the princess’s worried face.

"There’s no need to worry, Tania. It’s not something important," said Arielle, slightly lying.

Tania checked Arielle’s awkward expression and smiled. "Is it about the present for His Majesty the King like you asked this morning at breakfast?" asked Tania making Arielle blush with embarrassment.

"Um..."

Tania grabbed the princess’s hand to leave the place because too many other maids could hear their words. Tania led Arielle to the nearest balcony so they could talk more freely.

"Princess, maybe what I said this morning didn’t sound sincere. But I seriously say that His Majesty the King doesn’t wish to get any present from you, other than your presence on his birthday. If you had asked Lucas this, he would have given the same answer."

"But Tania.... I still feel that it would be lacking. I want to show my sincere gratitude."
