Chapter 175: What Will Be The Perfect Birthday Gift For Ronan?

"I-it’s not like that! You misunderstood! I... I... I’ve been spending my time in the ocean for months so when I see the beautiful Princess Arielle, I got a little... bit excited. Please forgive me! I had absolutely no intention of making her uncomfortable! I already apologized straight away!"

"What were you apologizing for?"

"I apologized and promised not to look at any woman in such a disrespectful way again and Princess Arielle has even forgiven me."

William took a sip of his wine. He just shrugged his shoulders when Lazarus glanced at him.

"Ahem, Ronan, I heard that someone fell in love with Princess Arielle and said he would marry her first if she didn’t meet you first," suddenly William blurted.

Lazarus opened his mouth in disbelief. He felt betrayed because William chose to tell Ronan everything.

"No, Ronan... I’m not in love with Princess Arielle. Have I gone mad? Don’t listen to William! I’m not in love with her at all. Not even for a second. I didn’t feel anything," Lazarus replied quickly. "I don’t have any feelings for her."

"Do you not love Arielle?" asked Ronan curtly. He narrowed his eyes, making Lazarus gulp. The sharp glare of the red irises only grew more terrifying.

Lazarus shook his head vigorously.

"How could you not fall in love with Princess Arielle?" asked William, dramatically rising from his chair. "Don’t you see the charisma that Princess Arielle has? Even I fell in love with her. Kael did too!"

William pointed at Kael, and the man nodded curtly in confirmation. The confused Lazarus looked at William and Ronan in turns.

"He said..."

William spoke again, interrupting Lazarus’ unfinished speech. The man came closer and grabbed his friend’s shoulder.

He continued, "It’s just, we are aware that the most worthy man to win the princess’s heart is our king, Ronan D Blackthorn."

When he saw Lazarus’ face paled, William finally decided to help his friend.

"Your Majesty... Lazarus has just arrived from a long journey. Indeed he had made the mistake of making Princess Arielle uncomfortable during their first meeting. But that’s because our best friend doesn’t know what happened while he was gone. Therefore, I beg you not to punish him too severely. After all, Princess Arielle has forgiven him..."

"You’re crying and begging to die in front of Arielle, right?" accused Ronan, who knew very well what trick the man would do to apologize to the women. And unfortunately, Arielle indeed fell victim to Lazarus’ fake tears.

"Initially, I did apologize in that way. But after receiving Princess Arielle’s kindness, I was moved and serious about not doing it again," replied Lazarus.

Ronan hit the wooden staff he was holding on the floor to bully Lazarus.

"You know? I won’t hesitate to hit you if you make Arielle uncomfortable again. This is my last warning, Lazarus," Ronan threatened, making Lazarus’ heart beat very fast.

Lazarus bobbed his head quickly. William helped the man up from the floor and led him to the sofa.

"You want some drink?" said William.

Lazarus didn’t answer. He grabbed the bottle of wine from William and then tried to gulp it straight from the bottle, but Ronan’s voice stopped him.

"Drink in a civilized manner. Kael hasn’t even taken a drop yet."

Lazarus hurriedly put the bottle of wine back down.

"Okay, Ronan," he answered quietly.

William, who saw that Lazarus had been tamed, let out a chuckle. Likewise with Kael, who had been holding back a smile all this time.

The day of Arielle’s return to the South drew near. And the girl hadn’t come up with any ideas about the gift she was going to give Ronan. She had tried to ask Tania, but Tania’s answer was not satisfactory for Arielle.

Tania said Arielle didn’t need to give anything because her presence was enough. But this is not what she wanted. She wished she could give Ronan something special for his birthday.

Arielle left the library restlessly. She decided to stop studying for a while. She would find several people to consult.

First, Arielle visited William, but the man was not there. One of the guards said William was heading west and would be back in three days. Waiting for three days was not feasible for Arielle to do. Preparing a gift definitely took days.

Arielle left the Blackthorn Palace and headed for the Colosseum. She looked around with a surprised look. Every day there would always be some knights training in the field. So why did it feel so quiet today?

"Uuh... excuse me," Arielle called to a guard who was on duty.

The guard recognized Arielle. He quickly bowed respectfully to the princess.

"Is there anything I can help you with, Your Highness?" asked the guard.

"Uhm... could you help me show the way to Lord Kael’s room?"

"Lord Kael? But he is not in the palace now. Lord Kael and several other knights are encamped at the border of Mount Birwick."

"Ah... is that’s so."

How could Arielle forget the knights’ camping day? Yesterday it was clear Sasha had told her. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"When will they be back?" asked Arielle.

"I think tomorrow evening they will return to the Palace."

"Alright, thanks for the information. I will see Lord Kael another time. Good job and have a nice day," said Arielle kindly making the man’s face blush.

"Y-yes, have a nice day too, Your Highness," he replied nervously.

Arielle thought again to whom she could ask about the perfect gift for Ronan. She stopped in her tracks when she found Lazarus’ body lying on a bench in the palace garden.

For a while, Arielle had thought about asking the man, but she then convinced herself otherwise. She rushed towards the Cathedral. Maybe Priest Elis could help her, Arielle thought.

Lazarus, who had been trying to sleep on a park bench, glanced briefly out of the corner of his eye when he saw Arielle, who stopped walking and staring at him for a moment, then left the garden for the Cathedral.

The girl looked like she wanted to talk to him but quickly went away. Lazarus didn’t really care. Maybe Arielle just wasn’t comfortable around him, unlike William or Kael.

He also didn’t want to be punished by Ronan if he did something wrong again. Lazarus closed his eyes, enjoying the cold North air that he missed.
