Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 174: Ronan Scolds Lazarus
***
Ronan called Kael, William, and Lazarus to his study. The four of them would discuss some important things about Nieverdell’s request.
Kael was the first to appear, while William and Lazarus were probably going to be late, having their fun. Both men were trouble makers, therefore Ronan decided to separate them, retaining William to remain with him in the palace and banishing Lazarus away, allowing the man to roam as he pleased.
Kael sat on the sofa while waiting for William and Lazarus. Kael and Ronan were typically the same kinds of people. The two of them preferred to stay silent rather than speaking incoherently like William or Lazarus.
The result was like now. When the two of them were united in one room, the room felt colder. There was only silence. Every now and then, there was the sound of scraping paper as Ronan finished checking his paper reports or the crackling of firewood.
Neither Ronan nor Kael wanted to start a conversation. The two of them were comfortable with the silence. And this had been going on for years. Therefore, when the four of them were on a mission to leave the palace together, William and Lazarus would separate to accompany Ronan and Kael.
At least, William and Lazarus could function to enliven the atmosphere. They didn’t serve many other purposes. For Ronan, Kael was the greatest knight who could accompany him. The proof was that the combination of Ronan and Kael was able to break through the dragon’s lair and kill one of them.
As Ronan read the list of apprentices in the Cathedral, Ronan read a familiar name. It was of a fourteen-year-old boy. Namina, an apprentice priest who at that time went with him to Frostmount Village. Ronan took out Namina’s biodata to read again later. Reading some biographies of the children studying at Cathedral reminded Ronan of Sasha.
"How is the progress of the child I entrusted to you?" asked Ronan.
Kael turned to the side and found the king talking to him. "You mean Sasha?" he asked.
Ronan nodded.
"Well. The child has a strong determination to learn. He won’t stop if I don’t stop him. Yesterday Princess Arielle also visited."
"I intend to send him to accompany Arielle back to the South. I don’t need that kid to learn much about sword art. I need you to teach him to sneak in the next few days. You can teach him about sword art again when he comes back."
Kael didn’t protest much. He just nodded in understanding.
"I will, Your Majesty," replied Kael accepting the king’s request. "Ah, by the way, I remembered something."
Ronan looked up again. "Remember what?"
"It’s about Princess Arielle," said Kael making Ronan raise one of his eyebrows.
"Arielle? What’s wrong with Arielle?"
"Yesterday, at the Colosseum, Princess Arielle met Lazarus for the first time."
Ronan clenched his jaw instantly, knowing that something bad had happened if Lazarus’ name was mentioned.
"What is that dog doing this time?" asked Ronan in anger.
"Lazarus made Princess Arielle feel uncomfortable because he looked at Princess Arielle too intensely in some parts of her body that he shouldn’t."
Ronan chuckled. He clenched his fists, hoping Lazarus would come soon so he could teach the man a lesson.
"I already told him about Princess Arielle and your plan to marry her. It is just.... You know... we’re talking about Lazarus here. My words will only be a passing wind for him."
Right as Kael finished speaking, Ronan’s study door opened wide. William and Lazarus came with each other arms on each other’s shoulders. William carried a large wine bottle in his left hand while Lazarus carried four glasses in his right hand.
"Hey, hey, hey! The human who is blessed by all the oceans has come to bring happiness to your sombre life!" cried Lazarus, greeting Kael and Ronan who were not amused by the man’s antics. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Ronan pushed his chair away from the table. He motioned for Lazarus to come closer to him.
"Me?" asked Lazarus innocently.
Ronan didn’t reply, he just tilted his head, asking the man to come closer. Lazarus with a loud laugh gave the four glasses he was holding to William.
"Whoa, you finally saw me?" Lazarus patted his chest, then stretched out his arms to hug Ronan. He continued with great confidence, "I missed you too, my best friend
Lazarus circled around Ronan’s desk but, as he approached the king, he stopped in his tracks for a moment. He saw a thin stick that became his nightmare in the hands of the king.
"Oh shit," Lazarus cursed. He felt his throat parched and his neck choked.
Lazarus dropped his body to the floor.
"I-I’m sorry, Ronan. I promise not to do it again!" cried Lazarus loudly.
William was pouring wine into the glass while only glancing briefly at Lazarus. He then offered to pour wine into Kael’s glass too.
"You want some?" he offered.
"No thanks," Kael replied.
Kael was the same as William. He only glanced at Lazarus, who was kneeling on the floor across from Ronan. It had been said that the only person who could control Lazarus was Ronan alone. Ronan had something that no one else had.
Lazarus was indeed a gallant adventurer. He had seen all kinds of sea monsters, but Ronan was a nightmare for Lazarus. The thin staff that Ronan was holding was the same staff that the late king used to train Ronan to control the wolf inside him as a child.
Lazarus was an eyewitness to how the previous king tortured Ronan by beating him if Ronan could not return to his human form. It traumatized Lazarus to see the staff. In his imagination, he would be beaten to a pulp by whoever held the staff.
"Have you met Arielle?" asked Ronan coldly.
"Y-yes... yesterday."
"And you made her uncomfortable?"
"I didn’t know Princess Arielle was a royal guest! I thought she was an ordinary palace maid!" he said with a tearful face asking Ronan to pity him.
"Palace Maid? Does Arielle look like a maid to you?" asked Ronan, raising his voice.
