Chapter 177: Arielle And Lucas

Tania thought for a moment, then muttered, "Hmm... I’m not sure what to recommend since I don’t have much experience with men myself. But if you remember a close friend of mine who taught you how to paint, I once gave him a handkerchief as a gift."

"Handkerchief?"

"But I think His Majesty the King already has hundreds of handkerchiefs. I gave my best friend a handkerchief because he is a painter, and I often meet him when his hands are very dirty."

Arielle wasn’t sure that a handkerchief was a suitable gift. Tania was right, Ronan must have had a lot of handkerchiefs, and the man’s hands were always clean. So a handkerchief won’t be very useful.

"So what should I give?" asked Arielle, even more confused.

"Hm... think about what His Majesty the King needs the most."

"Something he needed the most?" asked Arielle back, making Tania nod.

What did Ronan need the most? Ronan was a king who certainly had everything he could ever want in his life.

"Thank you, Tania. At least now I know one thing. Giving presents according to their use," said Arielle.

Tania smiled and held the princess’s hand tightly.

"Then I will leave you again. I must think about what His Majesty needs the most at this time," the girl said. Tania was still smiling because the answer was very clear that what King Ronan needed the most right now was Arielle herself. But Tania didn’t want to tell Arielle because she would definitely think of something else.

Arielle left the balcony and passed the palace garden. Lazarus was still there. She looked at the man for a few seconds and then headed for the Blackthorn Palace.

Lazarus furrowed his brows in confusion.

"What’s really going on?" asked the man feeling strange.

Not finding the answer she was looking for, Arielle returned to the library alone. The atmosphere in the library was quieter. There were still some children looking for books on the first floor before. But now it was empty.

Arriving on the second floor, Arielle accidentally crossed paths with Lucas, who had just come out of the small room in the corner of the entire second floor.

Arielle remembered it was the same room as the one Ronan had gone to when looking for some notebooks left by the previous kings.

If Arielle remembered correctly, Ronan said it was a secret room that only kings were allowed to enter.

"Lucas?" asked Arielle, greeting Lucas, who was carrying several piles of rotting books.

"Oh, Your Highness? Are you here too? Do you want to study?" Lucas asked.

Seeing Lucas struggling to carry a lot of books, the girl took the initiative to lighten Lucas’ burden. As usual, Lucas initially refused. But Arielle was stubborn to help, so finally, the man let the princess help him.

"Thank you," he said.

"Lucas, I’ve been looking for you for a long time. What are you doing in there?" asked Arielle, who followed down the stairs ahead of Lucas.

"You’re looking for me?" Lucas asked with raised eyebrows. "I was given an assignment by His Majesty the king to retrieve some of the books in there for me to take to Cathedral."

"Oh? Isn’t that a room only kings can enter?" asked Arielle voicing her curiosity earlier.

"True, but His Majesty the king gave permission for me. And indeed, he has also allowed Priest Elis to borrow some books there. His Majesty the king has given the Cathedral access to use the room if needed."

"I see... Does that mean you’re busy?"

"Hm...." Lucas thought for a moment. "Not really, but after giving these books, I’m going to the City market."

"To the market?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Hm-hm, to buy something," Lucas replied with a big smile. Arielle looked at the man for a moment.

Seeing Lucas smile broadly, it seemed she knew what the man was going to buy.

"Lucas, can I come with you?"

"Huh???" Lucas was surprised to hear Arielle suddenly wanted to go with him.

That meant they had to ask the king for permission first, right? Lucas was a little doubtful the king would give permission. Going with the princess leaving the palace was definitely not an easy matter. Meanwhile, he just wanted to take his order for the king’s gift.

Lucas intended to leave the palace without permission, but if he brought the princess, it also meant that Ronan would find out why he left the palace.

Arielle could see the doubt in the man. The two of them left the library and then walked through the palace gardens towards Cathedral.

"Actually, my purpose in looking for you was to ask something," said Arielle.

"Ask about what?"

"So I’m a little unsure about what gift I should give to His Majesty the King. I don’t have much money to give something expensive," Arielle said with a blush on her face.

Lucas chuckled to hear that.

"Princess, you don’t need to think too much about it because your presence is very special to His Majesty. You are his newest best gift this year," Lucas said, which made Arielle frown.

What Lucas said was exactly what Tania said. Arielle didn’t feel that special about herself. Whatever they said, she couldn’t just say birthday wishes while the rest of his friends gave him gifts.

Seeing the pouting princess, Lucas hurriedly halted his steps for a moment. Perhaps his words just now didn’t impress the princess.

However, in all honesty, Princess Arielle didn’t have to bother to give the king a gift because Lucas knew the king would really appreciate the princess’s presence. Just for them to spend time together was the best gift that Princess Arielle could give.

Unfortunately, that was definitely not what Princess Arielle wanted. The princess must want to have something meaningful between her and the king that couldn’t be expressed in words.

Giving a present on a birthday was a common gesture of appreciating someone’s birthday, and Princess Arielle thought so. Therefore the princess looked sad when Lucas gave an unsatisfactory answer.
