Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 178: Let’s Go To The Market
"Forgive me for being insensitive, Princess. I understand now," Lucas said, making Arielle’s eyebrows furrow in confusion.
"You really want to give a present for His Majesty the king’s birthday, right?" Lucas asked again. Arielle nodded quickly, feeling that it was possible that Lucas had changed his mind and would invite her.
"Then, if you so desire, you may come with me to the capital, but we must first obtain permission from His Majesty the king. Uhm... if you please, may we lie later?"
"Lie? What do you mean?"
Lucas laughed awkwardly, then looked away with embarrassment. He had asked the princess to conspire to lie to the king.
He actually had a plan to sneak out without permission, but if Arielle came with him, then he couldn’t leave the palace unnoticed by anyone. Therefore Lucas intended to use the excuse of buying additional new painting equipment for Arielle to be allowed to leave the palace.
Likewise, with Arielle, Lucas thought to make Arielle lie by saying that she wanted to choose some paints according to her heart’s desire. He didn’t know whether the plan would work or not.
Lucas’s doubts were big enough that he couldn’t come up with another idea right now.
"Do you need help?" asked someone very familiar.
Arielle and Lucas looked at the same time and found Lazarus, who was only one step away from where the two of them were standing. Arielle widened her eyes in surprise.
She remembered that she saw the man was sleeping on the park bench, but in an instant and without a sound, he was already by her side.
"Sorry, Princess. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. It’s just that I was passing by and overheard a discussion of cooperating to lie to the king."
"No, Lazarus! You misunderstood!" Arielle blurted and Lucas also panicked.
Lazarus just chuckled softly.
"Relax, Princess. I am now a different man than yesterday. I only intend to help and had absolutely no thoughts of snitching to Ronan. If you really want to go to the town market, I can help you guys," said Lazarus confidently.
Arielle glanced at Lucas for an opinion. She didn’t know whether Lazarus meant his words or not. Even though Arielle had forgiven Lazarus, it didn’t mean she trusted the man completely.
Lucas cleared his throat briefly and closed his eyes slowly as his irises stopped on the princess’s, signaling that there was no need to worry. Now Lucas turned to Lazarus. "If you can really help ask His Majesty the king’s permission, then I would really appreciate it," Lucas said.
Arielle obeyed but kept her mouth closed. The girl shook her head quickly to stop thinking negative thoughts. She tried her best to think of as many positive things as possible about Lazarus. Maybe Lazarus also has other needs in the capital, so why not try? Maybe with Lazarus coming with her, it would be easier for Ronan to give permission?
"If you also have needs in the city, we can go together," Arielle said, making Lazarus smile widely.
***
Lazarus, Arielle, and Lucas returned to the Cathedral. The three of them walked towards the trigram hall of the globe. Led by Arielle at the front, followed by Lucas and Lazarus at the back. Lucas opened the door without knocking because he was assigned to return immediately.
Arielle found neither Ronan nor Pastor Elis there. Only ten priests circled around a gigantic globe that was almost half the size of the hall itself. Everyone who surrounded the trigram looked serious, reading some chants that Arielle couldn’t understand.
Arielle was now learning to understand the concept of mana. She had not yet entered into the discussion of the trigram. Arielle broke her reverie when Lucas called out to her. The man asked for the book that Arielle brought with him.
"Thank you very much for your help, Your Highness," Lucas said, and Arielle just smiled back.
"Sir Lazarus, His Majesty the King is up here," he continued, inviting Lazarus to ask Ronan for permission.
"Should I come along?" asked Arielle.
"No need, you can wait here."
Arielle agreed to Lucas’ request. The girl shifted her body. It was so she could see more clearly the globe of the hall that shone at several points. The bright spots dominated the Northendell and Thebis Kingdoms. Only a few in Wolgast and Nieverdell look empty.
In the book of introduction to mana that she read, the bright spots indicated the number of people whose mana stream had opened. It could be seen that Nieverdell didn’t have anyone who was able to produce trigrams of mana. O
bviously, it was because Nieverdell had a comfortable environment and was not as extreme as Northendell or Thebis, which only contain snow and desert respectively.
Arielle looked up when someone came up to her down the stairs. It was Ronan. Arielle turned to face the king. Ronan put his hands behind Arielle’s back and led her out of the hall.
"Your Majesty?" asked Arielle, confused. She tried to find the whereabouts of Lucas or Lazarus, who were still left above.
"We should talk for a bit," Ronan replied curtly. Even so, he said it in a gentle tone, so Arielle knew that the man was not angry.
Arriving outside the hall, Ronan brushed his hair. Even though the man was wearing a mask, Arielle could tell that Ronan was nervous. She knew because she could hear a long, tired sigh.
"Arielle, Lazarus said you asked permission to accompany Lazarus out of the palace? Is it true that you need new painting equipment?" asked Ronan looking directly into Arielle’s eyes.
Arielle, who was being stared at so intensely by the two red eyes, suddenly became nervous.
"Yes," she answered simply. She knew if she answered with a long answer, it would only sound like a lie. And Arielle was not a great liar.
"But why should you come? Isn’t it usually Lucas who takes care of everything?" asked Ronan then.
"I thought... I also wanted to take a walk in the capital during the day. Just wanted to have a look."
"But I’m very busy right now," replied Ronan making Arielle confused.
Arielle also knew that Ronan was very busy. So she didn’t want to bother the man.
Ronan let out a long sigh. The man cupped Arielle’s face and looked at her sadly. He knew that spending every day in the palace would be very boring for Arielle.
It looked like the girl really needed some fresh air from the city’s hustle and bustle. But he couldn’t trust anyone but himself to protect Arielle. Even he couldn’t trust the knight he recognized as the best in the entire North, Kael.
"Can we buy it another time? I’ll accompany you," said Ronan.
Arielle immediately shook her head and waved her hand, rejecting the proposal. Looking for equipment was an excuse to find inspiration for what present she should give the guy later.
Her chance to find a present would also fail if Ronan came along. Arielle couldn’t choose a present in front of the birthday person. It would be disrespectful.
"I can go alone with Lucas and Lazarus," replied Arielle trying to convince Ronan to let her go outside the palace right now.
"But I don’t trust them."
