Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 169: Lazarus’ Crocodile Tears
With Lazarus behind her, Arielle was getting more and more aware of her back. She flinched a few times in surprise when the man shouted hello to several other people they met while passing by on the way. She thought he was yelling at her.
Arielle’s tense face disappeared and she smiled in relief when she saw Lucas, who was coming out of Whitethorn Palace and walking toward Blackthorn Palace.
"Lucas!" called Arielle, who then quickly approached Lucas, who was having a hard time carrying a pile of books in his hands.
The girl took the initiative to take a few books from the pile that was brought by Lucas.
"Let me help you," she said.
"You don’t need to help him, princess. Lucas can do it himself," commented Lazarus after following Arielle and Lucas.
"Oh, princess? Lazarus? Sorry I couldn’t see you guys earlier. That’s right, Your Highness. I can still do it myself."
"I’m just happy to help, Lucas," the girl said, walking beside Lucas while Lazarus was left one step behind. He watched Arielle and Lucas alternately. The two of them talked very intimately, making the man feel left out.
Arielle’s demeanor was now more relaxed. Whereas just a moment ago, the girl looked so tense that Lazarus could see the girl flinch in surprise as he shouted to greet people several times. He scratched his eyebrows.
"Is it because yesterday?" asked the man in his heart. "Did she not like me because of what I said at the Colosseum?"
Her first impression of him was so bad that the princess, whom Kael said was the friendliest person he had ever met, kept her distance from him.
Lazarus smiled, trying not to laugh at how innocent the girl was. She really couldn’t hide her dislike for someone. If Ronan saw that Arielle was still uncomfortable with him, Lazarus might lose his head the next day.
It was also a mystery to Lazarus. How could a man like Ronan fall in love so quickly with a woman like Arielle? All this time, in Lazarus’ imagination based on several women in the king’s past, he thought that Ronan’s partner would be more mature, feisty, and had sexy curves. Not someone as innocent as Arielle.
Now, the three of them had arrived at the library. Arielle went straight up to the second floor with Lucas. She sat on the sofa by the glass window where she read as usual. When she turned around, she realized that Lazarus was still following her.
Seeing Arielle’s surprised face, Lazarus chuckled.
"You forgot my presence?" asked the man teasingly.
Lucas had gone away to some of the bookshelves to put some books back in their place. He also needed to look for some more. Arielle looked at the part of the sofa that was still empty. Awkwardly the girl patted the empty space on the side.
"Erm... you can sit here, so you don’t get tired of standing," she said to Lazarus.
The man’s eyebrows rose. He thought Arielle didn’t like him, but suddenly the girl offered him a space on her sofa to sit down. The man took the opportunity to sit down. He didn’t say thank you because he still couldn’t believe it.
"Is there something you want to ask me, Sir Lazarus?" asked Arielle without further ado.
The man looked at Arielle and then turned his gaze to the pile of books in front of him.
"I’ve heard a lot about you from Kael, Your Highness. I want to apologize for my rudeness yesterday," said the man, feeling awkward because apologizing was not one of his traits. However, he had been warned by Kael.
If he didn’t apologize to Princess Arielle, the man threatened him to tell Ronan. And Lazarus immediately knew what would happen next. Either he would sleep in the stables or he would lose his head. Ronan was not a man he wished to offend.
Arielle just nodded because she didn’t know how to answer.
"Hmm? Don’t you have something to say?"
"Huh?"
Lazarus looked at the girl with widened eyes, and it made Arielle sit back uncomfortably.
"I... I wish you could stop staring at women’s body parts," Arielle answered honestly. She looked away from Lazarus.
Body parts? Lazarus flinched when he was finally aware of something. Then, he smacked his head, making Arielle turn around in surprise.
"Eh? W-why did you hit yourself on the head?"
Lazarus got off the couch and then prostrated in front of Arielle’s feet, making the princess panic even more. She kept her feet away because suddenly a man bent his head so low that it touched her feet.
"I deserve to die, Princess! I’ve made a grave mistake by making you uncomfortable!’"
Arielle couldn’t understand Lazarus’ words. The girl was still too panicked by his sudden change in attitude. She tried to lift Lazarus’ body to stop kneeling.
"Y-you didn’t do anything wrong, Lazarus. You can stand now."
"No, Your Highness. I deserve to die! My mistake was I made you feel uncomfortable with my gaze! And that is an unforgivable sin."
Arielle looked left and right, hoping Lucas would come back soon because she didn’t know how to deal with this kind of situation. She was indeed uncomfortable with the man’s action but she couldn’t take someone’s life just because of that.
Arielle grabbed Lazarus once more and restrained the man’s shoulders from prostrating again. The girl gasped when she saw Lazarus’ face was full of tears. The man was crying?
"Please, forgive me, Your Highness. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable," he whined.
A panicked Arielle wiped Lazarus’ tears with the sleeve of her dress. Lazarus blinked for a moment. He couldn’t believe he got such attention. His heart was beating faster, and he stopped his whimpering for a moment.
"Sir Lazarus, I have no intention of ending anyone’s life. So why cry?"
Lazarus was still speechless. He looked at Arielle in awe. Usually, he had to whine longer to get the attention of his coveted women. Even then, they sometimes ignored it. And while they felt sorry for him, no one had ever really wiped away his fake tears with their own gown.
