Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 168: Lazarus Comes To See Arielle
Priest Elis shook his head slowly in disapproval.
"Ah! I just remembered something. Have you prepared a present?"
"Present? What present???" asked Arielle confused.
"A present for His Majesty King Ronan. Next week there will be a party to celebrate His Majesty the King’s birthday."
Arielle stood up surprised. "Birthday!?" she asked in disbelief.
Priest Elis nodded quickly in surprise. Judging from Arielle’s confused expression, it seemed that the girl had just heard the news about the king’s birthday.
"You... you don’t know?"
Arielle shook her head wearily. Priest Elis asked Arielle to sit back down so as not to panic.
"It’s okay, princess. You don’t need to panic. The king’s birthday party is just a mere formality. His Majesty the king never actually joined his own birthday party. He spends most of his time with the people closest to him. The party will only be filled by nobles who want to give presents. Just that..."
Arielle just remembered that Namina had said that Admiral Lazarus would only return to the Capital once a year. He was here just to celebrate King Ronan’s birthday.
She didn’t think she would forget it. Lazarus had now returned to the palace, and Arielle should have realized that the king’s birthday was approaching. And Arielle never thought it would be this close. Only one week left.
"Present, huh?" Arielle muttered to herself.
She didn’t know much about gifts. Arielle never went to her siblings’ birthday parties. After the incident where she was found at the edge of the forest ten years ago, Arielle never participated in celebrating her siblings’ birthday again.
That night was Andrea’s birthday and Arielle gave Andrea a present of a diamond pin. It was something that she and Tania made from a collection of small diamonds that she owned.
Arielle thought the gift was something special. It turned out that the presents from the other siblings were more impressive and her present just ended up on the ground.
Since then, Arielle never thought about gifts to give to anyone. She was afraid she would only disappoint them by giving inappropriate gifts.
And what would a king want? Would it be a new crown? Arielle had no money to buy a new crown. Or a warm outfit? Arielle was lost again. She didn’t have the money to buy anything of value.
Another painting? But what kind of painting? Arielle was now lost in her own thoughts.
"Princess, I believe that whatever you give will be the best gift His Majesty the King will receive."
Arielle raised her head and smiled. Priest Elis was just comforting her so she wouldn’t be sad. The girl nodded in understanding. She grabbed the book she had come here for and got up.
"Thank you, Priest Elis. I will study these books well," said the girl.
"Are you going back?"
Arielle nodded. Priest Elis turned towards the door of his room, and there was no sound he could hear. It looked like Lazarus really was gone. Arielle looked back at him and smiled.
"Looks like I’ll be able to return alone," said the girl.
"Thank you for visiting the Cathedral, Your Highness. If in the future you need help regarding the book you are reading. Do not hesitate to ask."
Arielle bowed respectfully. "Thank you for the help."
Priest Elis bowed and smiled. "With pleasure," he replied softly.
The man followed the princess and led her to the door. Arielle and Priest sighed in relief as they did not find Lazarus there. Likewise, the entire corridor of the Cathedral seemed empty.
"Then I’ll say goodbye first," said Arielle who waved her hand slowly. Priest Elis only replied with a friendly smile.
The girl turned around and walked out of Pastor Elis’ room, hugging her two books. With each quick step, Arielle thought of a suitable gift for the king. She considered many ideas to gift for the king. But nothing made her sure.
"What are you thinking, Princess?"
"AAA!!!"
Arielle screamed in surprise when someone suddenly appeared behind her making Arielle release her grip on her books until they fell into the snowy ground. She looked back and let out a long sigh.
"Oh, hey Lazarus," said Arielle trying to be kinder.
Lazarus watched the princess from top to bottom.
"You’re not trying to avoid me anymore?" he asked with a serious face making Arielle feel guilty.
The presence of Lazarus really surprised Arielle. She rushed to retrieve her fallen books. Lazarus just stood waiting without any intention of helping.
"Do you have time for me now?" asked Lazarus tilting his body so that he could see the princess’s face.
Arielle glanced the other way hoping not to see Lazarus. What other excuse did she have? She had a lot of free time after which she would use to study.
Arielle was not used to lying. Ronan was also not in the Palace for her to use as an excuse.
"Are you thinking of an excuse to avoid me?"
Arielle widened her eyes in surprise. She shook her head quickly.
"No, no! I.. I was just..." Arielle could no longer give Lazarus any excuses. She smiled guiltily and spoke with a low voice. "I’m not thinking about anything."
"Where do you want to go now?"
I’m going to the library." replied the girl nervously because they were so close.
"Oh... you’re a nerdy princess, I see," commented Lazarus, nodding his head.
Arielle just smiled. She secretly watched the man’s expression. She didn’t know if Lazarus was such a carefree person that he didn’t think about any other feelings about his comments or if he was a very innocent man. Arielle couldn’t tell the difference.
The girl turned her face as the man looked her in the eye.
"Then let’s just talk in the library," said Lazarus making Arielle’s body stiffen.
The man would follow her to the library? Didn’t that mean they would have a long conversation? Unlike William, Lucas, Kael, or the others... Lazarus’ presence bothered her a bit.
Even so, Arielle couldn’t voice her disapproval. The girl just nodded, making Lazarus smile even wider. He gave Arielle way to go first and follow one step behind Arielle.
