Chapter 35: Cheating Scum

The evening sky was a canvas of warm hues as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a soft glow over the city.

Yvette and her manager, Leila sat at an outdoor table of a chic, upscale restaurant, their spirits high and their laughter frequent as they dined happily.

"You handled that scene perfectly that she couldn’t even utter a word, gosh I’m still in awe" . Leila complimented, her eyes gleaming with pride as she raised her wine glass. "The whole crew was in awe. I think this role is going to cement your place even higher when the movie is released."

Yvette smiled, modestly accepting the praise, though she couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride swell inside her.

As they dined, their conversation flowed easily, from work to more personal topics.

But then Leila’s phone rang, disrupting the serene atmosphere. She glanced at the screen and frowned. "I’m sorry Yvette, guess I have to go" . She said, hurriedly standing up. "It’s an emergency at home. I have to go right now."

Yvette raised a brow, concerned as she asked. "Is everything okay?"

Leila waved her hand dismissively, though her expression was tense. "It’s nothing serious, just some family stuff. But I’ll need to take the car, and since we drove here together..."

"Don’t worry". Yvette interrupted gently. "I’ll call my husband to come pick me up, you can go."

Leila flashed her a relieved smile. "Thanks. Sorry to leave you like this." She grabbed her things and quickly left, her heels clicking against the pavement.

Yvette stayed behind, finishing her glass of wine before fishing her phone out of her purse.

She couldn’t help but smile as she dialed her husband’s number, watching as people passed by the restaurant, couples strolling hand in hand, groups of friends laughing as they made their way to nearby bars.

After a couple of rings, Zeke picked up. "Hey, Wifey."

"Hubby" . She smiled at the sound of his soothing and warm voice. "Can you come pick me up? Leila had to leave for an emergency with the car, and I’m still at the restaurant ."

"Sure, I’m just about heading home. Send me your location, and I’ll be there soon." Zeke replied almost immediately.

The couple chatted for a little bit if while and then ended the call.

Yvette flagged down the waiter, paid the bill, and after a moment of hesitation, she decided to step outside while she waited for Zeke’s arrival.

The night air was refreshing, and she leaned against a post near the entrance, watching the city come alive under the evening lights.

Suddenly, a commotion caught her attention.

Across the street, she saw a man and a woman engaged in a heated argument.

The man, tall and well-dressed, was nervously glancing around, while the woman who was extremely gorgeously and also seems wealthy looked furious, her arms crossed, shouting something at him.

Yvette soon noticed that the man kept glancing behind him, toward a hidden alley.

Yvette meant to mind her business afterall scenes like this were common but it was not everyday for wealthy families to engage in even commotion like this on the streets without a care for their image, her curiousity got the best of her and she moved slightly closer, making sure to stay out of sight.

The whole situation became clearer when a second woman emerged from the shadows, probably the woman he was frolicking around with, his side chick.

She was trying to stay hidden but her body language showed she was angry too. Then Yvette realized what was happening: the man had brought his lover to the restaurant, only for his fiancée to find out and confront him.

"You misunderstood me Celyn!" . The man pleaded desperately to his fiancée. "She means nothing to me, I was bewitched, it was just a moment of weakness, you know everyone has their own moment of weakness, it was a mistake I swear!"

At those words, the side chick’s face twisted in fury. Bewitched?

That wasn’t what he said when he had proposed to her in secret. He had told her he had fallen for her, never once mentioning he was already engaged.

Yvette could see the betrayal in the young woman’s eyes and she could only sigh and shake her head helplessly. Mens are indeed scum. Of course, excluding her husband. He was invincible above the rest.

The fiancée, too whom he addressed as Celyn was livid. Her voice shook as she screamed at him. "You told me I was the only one! You promised me we would be married and now you’re telling me it was a moment of weakness, a mistake. Do you take me for a fool!"

The argument escalated quickly with the man backing away, trying to wriggle out of the situation. The other lady came out if her hiding place and approached with barely concealed anger.

And then, in a desperate move, the man bolted, leaving both women standing stunned. But before he could get far Yvette who was hiding nearby, saw an opportunity.

With a swift move, she kicked out her leg, catching the man in the ankle. He stumbled and fell pathetically onto the pavement, his expensive suit now covered in dirt. The sound of his fall echoed through the street, and both women turned in unison, realizing their chance.

They rushed toward him. The fiancée slapped him across the face, while the side chick pulled at his collar, both unleashing their fury on him.

"You lying scum!" The side chick yelled. "You said you loved me. You said you’ll marry me , that I was the only one and now you’re making me look like the third person. That’s what I hate the most!"

The fiancée, Celyn didn’t hold back either. "How dare you? How could you betray me like this and also try to wriggle your way out, do you think I’ll let you go and instead unleash my anger on an innocent woman. We’re both your victims , you like two timing, then why shouldn’t we give you a nice experience and satisfy you today you bastard?"

Yvette watched from the shadows and a small, satisfied smile tugged at her lips.

Witnessing this scene reminded her of her past—of Manuel who had cheated on her. Back then, she had been too meek, too heartbroken to fight back. She had spent nights crying over the betrayal, feeling powerless.

But now, watching these two women take their revenge, she couldn’t help but felt a deep sense of satisfaction. It was like watching justice being served.

When the man finally managed to escape their grasp, he was already limping and bruised and both women stood over him victoriously, their anger spent.

The other lady with, tears in her eyes, apologized to the fiancée. "I didn’t know he was already engaged to you. I’m sorry."

The fiancée, still breathing heavily, gave her a stiff nod. "Just... stay away from him."

The other lady nodded and quickly walked away, leaving the fiancée standing alone, catching her breath.

As she straightened herself, arranging her disheveled hair and dress, wiping the sweat off herself, she glanced around and noticed Yvette watching from the shadows.

Yvette tried to turned away and act nonchalantly but the lady was already in front of her and as the lady fazed at her , a flicker of recognition crossed her face as she stammered.

"Hey, you did a nice job there. Why are you turning back, I just want to thank you".

"Wait... are you... Yvette? The actress, you’re Yvette who’s playing the role of Lin Chuxia?". The Celyn lady asked, her voice wavering but curious.

Yvette stepped forward, allowing herself to be seen more clearly, her usual composed demeanor slipping back into place. "Yes, that’s me ". She responded with a polite nod, though she kept her distance.

The woman’s eyes widened. "I can’t believe I’m meeting you here of all places. You’re even more stunning in person than pictures." She hesitated, then added, "Would you... would you like to join me for dinner? I mean, after all of that, I could use some company."

Yvette wanted to asked who she was also as she couldn’t help the instinct telling her the Celyn lady was someone she indeed knew but instead she smiled warmly. "Sure, I’d love to."

"What you can ask me anything, why so nervous?". Celyn asked as they entered the restaurant, from her behavior, you could tell she was a princess from an extremely wealthy family witha carefree and haughty demeanor.

"I’m not". Yvette smiled. "I just thought you look a little familiar".

"Wait". Celyn said a she paused in her tracks. "You don’t recognize me, look again and think."

Yvette also stoped and looked at her but she couldn’t remember meeting her anywhere. "I really don’t know. I just feel like I’ve seen you somewhere but I don’t remember where either".

"Then it seems I need to go back into taking many roles then, even you couldn’t recognize me. I don’t believe I’ll have a day like this". Celyn harrumphed and Yvette smile
