Chapter 46: Eirian’s Determination. (1)

"Thank you, father, without you I surely wouldn’t have won," Aizel commented as he sighed exhausted.

His combat against Aida had been very complicated, and surely he would have lost if his father hadn’t arrived in time.

"Don’t mention it," Emiris responded seriously. "I have to admit that this enemy was formidable, I almost used my Asurastra."

The one speaking was Aizel and Eirian’s father.

An imposing man, with dark red hair combed back.

His gaze was severe, and his eyes intense red, though the bags under his eyes betrayed his lack of sleep.

He wore an elegant outfit as befitting a noble, which was now somewhat wrinkled due to combat.

"Yes, though perhaps we should go back now, there are problems at the laboratory," Aizel said with some concern.

He knew that Nora wasn’t weak, and the boy who rode that beast didn’t seem to be either, even if his amount of ka wasn’t great.

However, Emiris didn’t seem too worried about it.

"Isn’t Eirian there? Then he’ll take care of it, he carries my blood, he can’t be someone weak," the man affirmed.

Besides, he knew that in the laboratories there was someone more than capable of protecting the place.

Epimetheus was very powerful.

"Still, he’s still inexperienced with his powers, we can’t be overconfident," Aizel affirmed, still worried about his brother.

Emiris sighed annoyed, as he closed his eyes.

"Don’t worry so much, he must be around here," he affirmed, searching for his son’s presence on the mountain, then, his eyes suddenly opened. "What? Where is that brat going? Why is he leaving the mountain? Is he fleeing?"

Emiris wondered angrily.

Aizel was also surprised hearing those words, and also closed his eyes.

Trained warriors could learn to sharpen their senses enough to be able to find presences in the distance.

Because Aizel knew Eirian’s soul nature very well, it was easy for him to find him.

Upon doing so, he realized his father was right and that Eirian was leaving the valley.

What was the reason? Had he not managed to stop that girl? Perhaps he was looking for help?

While Aizel wasn’t sure, he did know that any excuse would displease his father.

Knowing that, it was better for him to go observe what was happening.

"I’ll go see what’s going on," the boy said, as he summoned his spear in his hands, and subsequently threw it toward the sky with force.

The spear pierced through the wind at great speed, whistling loudly as it arced in the air and descended toward a specific point.

"Don’t think I won’t go with you, I’m going to have to teach that coward a lesson," Emiris said with seriousness in his voice.

Aizel didn’t respond, as he snapped his fingers.

In an instant the young man appeared right where the spear was stuck.

Upon appearing, he not only encountered his brother’s frightened gaze, but the fact that he was being accompanied by several people.

"What is all this?" Aizel asked looking at Eirian.

The first thing that came to mind was that his brother was transporting the demons to another base by Epimetheus’s order.

However, a part of him knew that was a lie he was telling himself.

It didn’t make sense for it to be so.

But then, what was the reason? What could it be?

"I-I—" Eirian looked at his brother with doubt.

He was afraid, afraid of being judged, afraid that Aizel would see him as a traitor.

However, he was also afraid to give up who he was, to lie about his feelings.

Then, the boy felt a little hand take his.

It was that girl with pink hair who wanted to see her mother.

He had promised her he would take her to her.

Eirian felt his determination grow again, if he was going to confess what he felt, it had to be now.

"I’m doing the right thing!" the young man finally exclaimed with all the courage he found.

Aizel was surprised, it was the first time he saw Eirian act like that.

Normally he was shy and insecure, a boy who showed weakness.

Aizel knew his attitude would bring problems, he knew the other nobles would be cruel to him.

That’s why he wanted to toughen up his brother, get him used to having his own entourage, prepare him for his life as a noble.

However now, he saw a facet of Eirian he didn’t know, his brother was showing courage for the first time.

"What do you mean?" Aizel asked calmly, looking at the demons behind him.

His brother’s gaze burned with determination.

"I mean I’m freeing them, because it’s the right thing to do," he responded firmly. "It’s not right that they’ve been separated from their families, it’s not right that they experiment on them! I simply put an end to that injustice."

Aizel raised an eyebrow, genuinely confused. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

He didn’t feel any empathy for anyone who wasn’t a Vanir.

After all, that’s what he had been taught all his life, that xenos were mere cattle, animals slightly more intelligent than average.

That’s why he couldn’t understand why Eirian defended them.

"I don’t understand, what does it matter what happens to those demons? They’re not like us, little brother, they’re not important," Aizel responded, with a calm voice, as if he were correcting a child.

But Eirian shook his head, without backing down from his position.

"No! Their life has the same importance as ours, they also have feelings, dreams and families! Loved ones waiting for them," Eirian said, on the verge of tears. "I knew it since Mom passed away... all lives are equally valuable, so when someone dies, there’s also someone who suffers just as I suffered with her death... that’s why anyone’s death hurts me."

Aizel opened his eyes wide.

Was that why?

Was that why Eirian acted like that?

It was strange, after his mother’s death, Aizel had experienced a completely opposite change.

Other people’s lives stopped mattering to him, except for his family’s.

At the moment of that death, Aizel decided he would only treasure the lives of his own.

Perhaps that’s why he became so cold toward death.

"Tch, so that’s what’s going on," a voice then said. "Shit, that bitch of your mother is still fucking things up even though she’s dead! Seems like you inherited that sentimentality from her."

Said Emiris’s harsh voice, as he slowly approached the scene.

"I suppose I’ll have to beat the stupidity out of you," Emiris finally said.
