Chapter 33: Basic Mana Manipulation Technique

"If you weren’t sure, why did you come?" asked Lukas, looking at her curiously.

Amara’s expression remained the same as she casually said, "It would be a lot better to die to the beasts than being forced by that bastard."

Lukas nodded in understanding and then thoughtfully said, "We should have a chance to return alive if the beast tide isn’t stronger than what Mage Miteus told us and..."

He took out a scroll from his armor and opened it as he finished his sentence, "...I can master this Basic Mana Manipulation Technique before we face the tide."

"This... How did you get this?" asked Amara, surprised upon seeing it was one of the few magic spells available in their family’s library.

She was surprised to see it in his hand because only those who were mages were allowed to peruse them and that too inside the library as taking any magic spell scroll or book out of the library was strictly forbidden.

"Aunt Simone let me take it." smiled Lukas and opened it.

After leaving the hall, instead of following Henry and James like Robert, Mike and Amara, he waited for Simone to come out knowing she had the authority to allow him entry in the library.

As he had expected, Simone directly led him to the library while making sure they weren’t watched after he told her he wanted to practice magic spells to better protect himself.

Knowing she was taking a risk by bringing him there and allowing him to take magic spell scrolls out, and also considering he wouldn’t have enough time to train in them, he only chose one scroll out of the total eight available—Basic Mana Manipulation Technique.

A mage, no matter if he was 1-Star, 2-Star or even 3-Star, as long as he couldn’t control and manipulate his mana properly, he wouldn’t be able to utilize his strength and hence, he would remain weak.

There were things mages could do to increase their mana control, but Lukas didn’t know what they were yet.

When he checked all the spells in the library, he realized four of them were for Water Elemental Mages, and only the other four were an elemental-less mage could use.

Even among the latter four, the three were ones which would take a lot of time to practice, only the weakest spell—Basic Mana Manipulation Technique—was easy to learn and wouldn’t take as much time.

Moreover, it suited him well as it could give him the preliminary knowledge of how to use his mana properly. So, he chose it without any hesitation.

Seeing him get engrossed in reading the scroll, Amara didn’t say anything but inwardly she was surprised.

’Aunt Simone, huh? It seems her relationship with Fourth Lady Helen isn’t bad as everyone believed, but it’s still surprising she would let him take out a spell scroll. Isn’t she afraid of making Raymond angry?’

While Lukas busied himself in reading the scroll and Amara got lost in her thoughts, Knight Henry, riding on his horse just a few meters ahead of them raised his brows in confusion.

’He is trying to learn a magic spell? Did he...’

His expression changed as a thought crossed his mind and his heart thudded in his chest, ’Second awakening!’

It should be known that most Knights were people who had failed their awakening but happened to have affinity with Aura Cultivation and ended up becoming Knights.

Even though the Aura Cultivation was also broad and Knights could become very strong as long as they were talented enough, every Knight had a hidden desire to become a mage too not only because Mages were treated better in the current society and the Magic Path was easier to walk compared to the Aura path but also because if they could practice both, they would be many times stronger than their peers in the same realm.

So, when Henry realized Lukas had most likely undergone the second awakening and had become a mage, desire surged in his heart and his gaze became heated. He almost turned around to ask Lukas, but thinking even Raymond and others didn’t know about it which meant Lukas wanted to keep it a secret, he restrained himself.

However...

’If he wanted to keep it a secret, why did he reveal about him wanting to master the magic spell? Don’t tell me he thought since I’m a few meters away and he didn’t speak too loudly, I wouldn’t be able to hear him?’

Shaking his head, he sighed in pity, ’What a pitiful child!’

Useless to mention, he really believed Lukas really thought so. But he couldn’t be blamed because everyone knew after failing his awakening, Lukas seemed to have lost his will to live and wasn’t interested in anything and stayed cooped up in his room.

So, how could he have any knowledge about worldly matters?

...

Lukas was very much aware Henry, being a Knight comparable to a 2-Star mage, could hear him but he didn’t care much about it.

If he wanted the method for the second awakening, he only had two choices.

First, he could kidnap him and torture the method out of him, which he most definitely wouldn’t do in front of so many people.

Second, he could try gaining his favor.

After comprehending the legacy, Lukas was aware that if he wanted to become stronger—which was a must to live safely comfortably in this world—he would have to do all three things required by the rune.

He had to create a harem so he could have sex whenever he wanted, he had to kill people or beasts and most importantly, he had to become a ruler.

Him deliberately revealing the news of his second awakening to Knight Henry was in preparation for the last thing.

...

"Young Lord, we have arrived." After what seemed like a long and short time at the same time, he heard Knight Henry’s voice and snapped back to his senses.

Closing the scroll, he massaged his temple and rubbed his weary eyes before raising his head and looking ahead.

Just half a mile away from them stood a town, enclosed by a 10-meter-tall wall.

His expression hardened when he saw hundreds of beasts were trying to breach the walls and enter the town.

"Fortunately, the town hasn’t fallen yet." said Henry. After watching the beasts and people on the walls fighting against them using long ranged weapons, he raised his hand and shouted in a low voice so as not to attract the beasts’ attention.

"We attack from the left side. Go!"

Shouting out the command, he heeled his horse and rushed forward.

"Yes, commander!"

The cavalry composed of 200 trainee Knights shouted in response and followed after him, their swords unsheathed.
