Lady Meilin is seduced by her green tea brother-in-law everyday-Chapter 337: Tangning’s matchmaker.
Mei Mei could not deny giving the credit where it was due. Her brother was a genius at solving cases. Although the reason why he went into law enforcement had always puzzled her. She always thought that he would become an astronaut, given his love for the stars and the world beyond earth.
"Do you know what kind of foods he likes to eat?" Tangning asked her.
Mei Mei realized that the singer had her phone and smart pen in hand, preparing to take notes.
Tangning looked around, worried that they might be overheard. She had felt more than a few curious eyes on them even though nobody had made any moves to approach them so far.
When she was confident that they were still alone she pressed on. "I need a strategy to win his heart. Jun Mingzhe is going to be my man." She declared and flipped her hair back.
Mei Mei raised her eyebrow. "If you scream it out loud, I will believe you."
She did not think that Tangning would dare to do it. To her surprise, Tangning did it.
"Jun Mingzhe is mine." She screamed.
Mei Mei gasped. Other celebrities in the lounge looked over at them.
"You and ten million others." Ji Ninge’r, another singer shouted back.
Others laughed or scoffed.
Tangning’s face was red again but she gathered her courage and faced Mei Mei. "See, I am not ashamed to declare it."
"Because you know that nobody here will leak it. My rules on privacy are tighter than the ones of the royal palace. But I have to give you credit for the bravery you have displayed so I am willing to be your one woman matchmaking agency."
Tangning nodded.
"So we must create more opportunities for the two of you to cross paths." Mei Mei said softly. "But the trouble is that you walk in different circles and both of you have tight schedules. This is like a bird and a fish falling in love." She huffed. "Let’s begin with his schedule first. He goes for a morning run at 5:59 a.m, every morning. Same route. Same music. Same scowl.
The trouble is he runs in the Imperial command base. But, when he sleeps at my place, he still runs. I will invite him over more and more and you must rise early and bump into him accidentally."
Tangning nodded.
Mei Mei strengthened her voice, "And I mean real accidental bumping not just meeting and saying hi and then you run off. You can twist an ankle, stretch your leg in his path. You can also carry a weird book with you, something to do with math, science or philosophy. An old book that will spark his curiosity. I know my brother well so I am sure that he will ask a question. You will give the wrong answer deliberately and the two of you will run together as you argue."
Tangning was imagining it all exactly as Mei Mei described it and she was blushing more. In her imagination, they were not just running alone, they were accompanied by twins who happened to be their children.
"Are you sure he will engage with me in conversation?" Tangning asked curiously.
Mei Mei nodded. "There is nothing my brother cannot stand like a wrong answer. I used to mess up my homework deliberately so that he could do it for me." She sniggered deviously. She had even learned how to imitate his handwriting perfectly to keep teachers from realizing that her brother was doing her homework for her.
Tangning nodded. "I must pretend to be foolish."
Mei Mei rolled her eyes. "Not that foolish, he hates dumb people. You just have to be smart enough to challenge him and give him puzzles he is determined to put together. And when he gets something right, don’t flatter him. Just raise something else....something that will make him keep you on his mind."
"Got it." Tangning erased something she had noted down. "No praise, just combat. But a little praise too because he is awesome."
Mei Mei rolled her eyes. "You should not be too present in his life to the point of irritating him. If you hover around him like a fly, he might find you to be nuisance and he won’t get to miss you."
Tangning nodded slowly. "Show up, dazzle for a moment, drop the mic and close the curtain. I don’t chase, I orbit."
"Excellent." Mei Mei said. "But you must also be ready for the moments when he will try to push you away....and he will. Do not flinch. Stay. If he is having a difficult time, stay. He doesn’t like to show others his weakness so you must find a way to be the one woman outside family that can break his shield and stay."
Tangning sighed. "I feel a little guilty about this. I hope that this does not come off like manipulation."
Mei Mei touched her arm. "I would never allow you to manipulate my brother. I am simply giving you some advise because even though he has not made any move to pursue you, he has looked at your window every time he visits my house. Maybe he is curious about you and your peeping."
His thoughts did not linger when he entered the house but when he was standing outside or in the backyard, his eyes were curious. To Mei Mei, there was something there. It just needed to be lit.
"I must clarify that the ideas I am sharing with you do not necessarily mean that you will become his girlfriend or he will fall in love with you." Mei Mei felt the need to mention this before they could go further. "Even if he does fall in love with you, remember that he is the son of a noble family. It will not be easy to marry."
Tangning covered her ears. "I don’t want to hear that. One day at a time Meilin, I want to take this one day at a time. Everyone knows that most noble families have lists of family approved potential marriage partners." She lowered her hands and looked into Mei Mei’s eyes. "But love is not a list. Love is not checking off a box because it fits. Nobles like to separate love and marriage to preserve their wealth and traditions and I think they are wrong."
"I also think it is wrong." Mei Mei said. "But I lack the backbone to defend my opinion because love once led me astray. So when....."
She paused because Tangning was humming and smiling, lost in what looked like the composition of a new song. Inspiration had struck her out of the blue.
Mei Mei backed away from the young woman and walked out of the celebrity lounge. Maybe things would work out for Tangning and Mingzhe, or maybe they would not. Either way, they deserved to try.
