Chapter 336: Hopeless love.

Tangning’s ears turned red and she folded her arms on her chest. "What do you mean by borrowing sugar? I am on a diet and I am not not supposed to eat anything with sugar. Apart from Huaqi’s cheesecake, nothing with processed sugar has crossed my lips in a month."

She denied eating sugar so strongly like she was being accused of setting off a bomb or attempting to kill someone.

"Aiyo, such strong denial from someone who borrows sugar from me so often." Mei Mei giggled and smiled mischievously. "Are you here for my brother? He is not here."

Tangning rolled her eyes. "As much as I like your brother, my life does not revolve around him. I have to release two new singles and I am preparing for the recording of my new album. I want to be in the best shape physically, mentally and vocally. Your sleeping pods have gained a reputation for giving inspiration and calming the mind."

Mei Mei heard "I like your brother," and everything else might as well have been blah blah blah to her ears.

Her eyebrows danced as she prepared to tease Tangning some more. "So you like him...eh. This is the first time I have heard you declaring it loudly."

Tangning’s cheeks turned red.

"What do you like about him?" Mei Mei whispered as a familiar actress walked by them. "Your crush is so obvious that is borderline embarrassing."

"I don’t have a crush on him!" Tangning hushed Mei Mei.

Mei Mei rolled her eyes. "You just admitted to liking him."

Tangning darted her eyes and mumbled, "I like him as the Imperial commander."

Mei Mei grinned. "Your red face says otherwise. My boyfriend blushes like this whenever I tease him about the smallest things. Your skin is already admitting your feelings for you." She looked out of the window and waved her hand. "Mingzhe, you are here."

Tangning squatted down with panic all over her face.

Mei Mei looked down at Wu Tangning and she grinned. "Why are you hiding? It is not Mingzhe, my eyes recognized the wrong person."

Tangning stood up, patting her chest. "Jun Meilin, I hate you."

"No you don’t." Mei Mei laughed. "I am such a lovable person. You love me and you love my brother. As his sister, sometimes I don’t understand the adoration women have for him. He is a robot with a badge."

"He is not a robot." Tangning mumbled. "He is just the silent brooding type...composed."

"Silent brooding?" Mei Mei arched her brows. "Tangning, the man alphabetizes his clothes, books and everything in his bathroom cabinet. He reads old books that smell like moths for fun. He also uses phrases like statistical anomaly and words like redundancy."

"Because he is a genius. His language is polished and that is very impressive." Tangning replied.

Mei Mei rolled her eyes. "Oh really! Write me a song with those words used as lyrics right now."

Tangning pursed her lips for a moment as she thought. Then she said, "I can’t think of anything right now but I still think that he awesome. And he is very organized and clean. In comparison to my older brother who lives like the filthiest pig alive, Jun Mingzhe is a gem.

Mei Mei was recording all of Tangning’s praise for Mingzhe.

"He once tried to calculate the optimal number of sesame seeds on a sesame bun."

Tangning giggled. "How cute."

"You mean psychotic." Mei Mei leaned forward. "We were ten and I was very hungry. All I wanted to do was eat the stupid buns."

Tangning leaned towards Mei Mei, eyes twinkling. "He must have been a handful as a child. What else did he do?"

"Everything." Mei Mei almost hissed. "He was born with the brain of a genius and the social skills of a sloth. He tried to power a lab with chicken eggs and potatoes!! You should have seen our grandmother chasing him around the house because the eggs were meant for breakfast."

Tangning laughed, "What? How can eggs power a lab?"

"I asked myself the same thing as we were having rice and soup for breakfast that very morning. But that was not the end of his impossible experiments.

When we were six, he stole my father’s koi fish and attempted to make them multi colored using some special natural dye he invented. Two of the fish looked weak so he placed them in a tank with serums and orange juice and buried them secretly.

Then, he convinced my father that he was trying to see if they could resurrect and my father joined him in the madness!!"

Tangning burst out laughing. "What happened. Did they resurrect?"

"Of course not." Mei Mei sniggered. "You would think that his resurrection experiments would there but my brother was determined to be a mad scientist. My mother was always talking about dragons, believing they are real. So, my brother took it upon himself to attempt and genetically engineer a dragon as surprise for her thirty first birthday. That is how Bun the lizard with wings was born. He lived for only three years."

She did not feel like sharing the part where a group of people broke into their home to steal Bun and in the scuffle which followed, the poor lizard was killed.

Mingzhe had not attempted to resurrect or create anything after that. From then on, he focused on non living things only.

"I think I like your brother even more now." Tangning said. "He knew what your mother wanted and decided to find a way to give it to her. What woman would not want a man that is considerate?"

"You are hopeless." Mei Mei narrowed her eyes. "And it is sweet that you like him no matter how crazy he sounds. I want him to have a woman in his life that loves him for himself, not his name, looks or badge. Speaking of his crazy science projects, he once tried to turn a microwave into a device that could harness the energy from stars."

Tangning raised her eyebrows. "Really! Did it work?"

"No, it just burned food and made an annoying beeping sound which alerted him every time I entered his bedroom. I think he built a Mei Mei detector to stop me from stealing his shirts but he lied and called it a star catcher."

They both laughed.

Both of them were silent for a pause of time.

Tangning then said, "You know, I don’t like your brother for his face, name or badge. I fell in love with him when I saw him stopping the Imperial convoy to allow an old man cross the road.

I fell for him again when I saw him rescuing a cat at a crime scene. It was stuck in a tree, crying for help and nobody tried to help it because they were trying to solve the case first.

When he arrived, he climbed that tree, fed the cat and wrapped it in his jacket. Only after making sure that it was okay and safe in his car did he look at the crime scene.

It was more amazing when he solved the case immediately after looking at victim’s shoes for just ten seconds!!"
