Chapter 324: The treasures she found.

Mei Mei put another sweet cub in her mouth as the system bragged.

"Of course it is inspirational, look who came up with it. I, the overlord of the universe C4 made it up."

She licked her lips and scoffed. "Don’t be proud C4, all great poets are people that were down to earth."

The system sniggered. "Who needs down to earth when you can be genius. Did you understand my poem?"

Mei Mei found an opening into the mountain and she walked inside. Neither the darkness nor the old bones in the entrance stopped her. She just skipped over them and continued on with her mission.

"Your poem is about lovers. One of them is searching for the other on the mountains. Their palms are sliced by sharp rocks as they search and their blood falls on the ground. The one that is searching keeps calling for the one that is lost but hears nothing."

One the virtual screen, fireworks exploded. "Excellent." C4 said, "Now onto the next one."

Mei Mei increased her speed because she was closer to the ping which the system indicated on the map.

"Beneath the dragon...." C4 started.

"Why is everything dragon?" She jumped in.

"Because dragons are cool." C4 answered. "Besides, Hongduan mountain looks like a gigantic tail of a sleeping dragon."

The light which was coming from the rims of the smart glasses she was wearing went out abruptly.

"Don’t move." C4 told her.

A military drone passed by Mei Mei, its green light scanned the mountain for intruders. People were not allowed around the mountain beyond 5:00 p.m. This of course did not mean that people obeyed the law. Hongduan was a treasure mountain which was always crawling with treasure hunters.

There were also film crews and individuals who did love broadcasts with permission from the mountain rangers that protected the mountain.

After the drone disappeared she continued on after looking at the time. It had been four and half hours since she left home.

"This would have ended quickly if you just teleported me." She told the system.

"You need points to teleport. If you were kissing Jingzhe more often, we would not have this problem." It replied.

Mei Mei rolled her eyes.

C4 continued on with his poetry while she navigated through a hollow chamber buried beneath a collapsed rock shelf.

Then, she found the area being pinged and it led down into a hole that was dark inside. "Dammit." she muttered. "System, is it safe for me to be visiting the underworld?"

C4 laughed.

Mei Mei descended into the crevice using her gloves and boots combined with the agility of a feline. The deeper she descended, the colder it got and the dimmer it became. Truly, she thought she was making her way to the underworld until she came across a tunnel.

The entrance of the tunnel bore some markings and arrows like someone had been marking their way. She had to brush away cobwebs and hiss at a fat rat before safely reaching a chamber that housed treasure.

There was so much jade and so much gold. Some was in chests and the rest was just piled up, mixed together with no order. There were other things like old books, incense burners and more. But that was not what brought Mei Mei to the mountain.

The gold and jade, her family had so much more than this. Even if this was taken to her ancestral home, nobody would blink.

While she had no plans of taking most of these things with her, it struck her that if Jingzhe made the discovery, his chances of becoming a noble would go up significantly. For his determination to give Mingzhu great memories and fill her photo albums, this would be her reward.

"System, where are the national treasures?"

C4 appeared on a slab in fox form. "You have to lift this."

She walked towards the slab and lifted it with ease. Beneath was a square shaped hole and a box. Mei Mei placed the slab down and removed the box from the hole. With force, she forced it open and saw two artifacts inside.

The first was a scroll wrapped in crimson silk with a Buddha shaped wax splitting the heavens.

She lifted the scroll from the box and broke the wax seal. As she unrolled it, a pulse shot through her smart glasses--images of thousands of monks chanting in union as the stars aligned during a lunar eclipse.

The hairs on the back of her neck stood and her breath hitched. She could not help feeling like she was being watched by something.

When she looked around, she saw nothing. When she looked at the scroll again, she got the same feeling. She closed it immediately and the image disappeared.

"I am not messing with this." She muttered.

"It is the Scroll of the Nine Immortal Vows." C4 shared. "It is believed to be a sacred text written in invisible ink and only legible during lunar eclipses. Only the most pure hearted monks can read the script. That is why it appears to be a blank paper to you."

"How much is it worth?" She asked.

"Is that all you care about?" C4 asked her.

"What else?" She asked.

C4 sighed. "I cannot determine this as there are no records of the scroll ever being sold. But I am sure it is worth a lot because it is old. At least eight hundred years old."

She sent the scroll into the space and reached for the second artifact. It was a flute, red in color with three red feathers attached to a string in the last hole.

"The Phoenix-Bone flute of Monk Tong. It was said to have been crafted from the bones of a phoenix. Music played using this flute was said to calm storms and spirits."

An image of the flute appeared on the virtual screen. Even though it was black and white, Mei Mei could see the similarities between that flute and the one she was holding.

She was tempted to put it to her lips but she shook her head and eliminated the thought. Who knew if the bones it was crafted from were phoenix or human? There was no such thing as a phoenix or an immortal.

The system had assured her of this much when it broke down heaven’s mandate, exposing it as the work of a mortal emperor. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

She took one gold ingot for Mingzhu to play with and she secured the artifacts. Then, she made her way out of the mountain and ran back to the plane. As it lifted from the ground, she looked back at the mountain, wondering what more secrets it kept. There were more tunnels down there, one just had to know where to look.

Mei Mei sighed. She had no desire to look. Some treasures weren’t to be unearthed. Maybe it was best to leave those things as they were.
