Chapter 756: Chapter 755 Teaching Sun Wukong to Cook

If I could be with someone like Shopkeeper Chen, losing even a hundred years of life would still leave me content.

"It’s nothing, let’s eat the sweets first." Nuwa looked at the desserts in front of her, not willing to part with any of them for Xuan Feng, even somewhat regretting her impulsive offer to share the sweets with Xuan Feng just moments before.

Xuan Feng gazed longingly, alternating her gaze between Nuwa and the desserts. Although she wanted to try each one, she was easily satisfied.

Just getting to taste one of these sweets would be enough for her, not wishing to have them all.

Among the medley of desserts, Nuwa picked and chose, and finally handed a Dirty Layered Cake to Xuan Feng without even looking at it, for fear that she would regret it and take it back.

Xuan Feng took the layered cake; she had seen this delight before, and it was delicious. However, she was more interested in trying something else, as she had already tasted this one and was eager to try ones she hadn’t yet tried.

But Xuan Feng also knew she didn’t really have the choice, so she glanced at the other treats longingly, hoping Goddess Nuwa would offer her something she had never tasted before.

"If you don’t take it now, I’ll take it back," Nuwa said.

Xuan Feng hurriedly took the layered cake, bowed to Nuwa, and then prepared to leave her room.

Just as she had taken a couple of steps, she turned back and asked, "Goddess, may I ask, why are all these sweets this color? They look as though they were made with mud. What was Shopkeeper Chen thinking to make desserts with such a color?"

"It’s aptly named," Nuwa responded, "It’s called the ’Dirty’ series."

"Ah?" Xuan Feng didn’t understand, "Why give such a nice sweet such a name?"

"You’ll understand once you taste it," said Nuwa, who didn’t elaborate, because that’s what Chen Nuo had told her as well.

Half understanding, Xuan Feng nodded and then left the room.

Once Xuan Feng had gone, Nuwa went to taste the Dirty Bun that Chen Nuo had first offered her.

As she picked it up with her hand, it was immediately coated in chocolate; it crumbled and stained her hands upon lifting, perfectly living up to its name, Dirty.

After finishing the bun, Nuwa licked her lips, thinking she had been the epitome of elegance and that there shouldn’t be any issues, but she was shocked when she looked in the mirror, realizing Chen Nuo’s sense of humor was quite wicked.

Having seen off Nuwa, Chen Nuo went towards the kitchen.

Two hours since he had returned, he arrived in the kitchen where Sun Wukong was threading sprouts with much greater speed, having made seven to eight plates of half-finished dishes in just two hours.

Sun Wukong was threading with enthusiasm, and upon seeing Chen Nuo, he cheerfully shouted, "Master, what brings you here?"

"I came to see how your preparations are going," Chen Nuo said as he looked at the arrayed dishes, "You’re faster than I expected, not bad."

"Really, Master?" Hearing Chen Nuo’s praise, Sun Wukong felt his efforts had not been in vain, "With these words from you, Master, I feel reenergized at once."

Chen Nuo nodded and added, "Just remember that this was meant as a punishment."

Sun Wukong promptly said, "Don’t worry, Master, I won’t forget this is a punishment from you, and I’ll learn my lesson from it so as not to repeat the same mistake."

Sun Wukong was Chen Nuo’s first apprentice and the first person he met upon arriving here, so Chen Nuo valued Sun Wukong highly.

Moreover, he was indeed intelligent, often getting the point with a mere hint, quickly grasping what Chen Nuo meant.

There’s not much to say about cooking, either. While it can’t beat my own skills, it’s still second to none.

I believe that in the realm of cooking, no one but me could reach the achievements of Sun Wukong.

Chen Nuo pinched a bean sprout, and indeed, the minced pork inside was stuffed as full as he had instructed, without spilling out at all — this was precisely what Chen Nuo had wanted.

He had never made Silver-inlaid Sprouts before, Chen Nuo thought, and then carried a plate of semi-finished product to the stove.

Seeing Chen Nuo heading to the stove, Sun Wukong knew what he was going to do. Although he was eager to see how Master made the Silver-inlaid Sprouts, with two plates of bean sprouts still to thread, it was likely that Chen Nuo wouldn’t call him over to watch until he was finished.

So Sun Wukong sped up his work, quickly finishing threading the sprouts, and then went to watch Master cook.

Chen Nuo, holding a plate of bean sprouts and minced pork, did not immediately start to stir-fry but began by boiling a rich broth, intending to deal with the bean sprouts after the broth was done.

The broth was made from a whole chicken, along with pork tripe and various mushrooms, and to save time, Chen Nuo used some mana to speed up the simmering of the broth.

It took just half an hour, and the broth was already perfectly simmered.

The broth shone with a golden hue and, having mushrooms added to it, emitted an enticing aroma.

Just the smell alone was enough to make one feel like they were about to ascend to the heavens, irresistibly craving a taste.

Chen Nuo took a sip of the broth with a spoon, nodded, confirming it was the exact flavor he wanted.

Separated by an array, Sun Wukong could not smell anything, but the sight of steam wafting from the large pot was enough to imagine that the broth must be exceptionally savory.

After the broth was ready, Chen Nuo didn’t extinguish the flame but kept it simmering on low heat. He put the minced pork and bean sprouts into a skimming ladle and immersed them in the hot broth.

Dunk for three seconds, remove, then dunk again for another three seconds.

Repeat the process until the minced pork was cooked through.

Once that was done, Chen Nuo elegantly arranged the sprouts on a fine dish, not forgetting to plate with style, then pinched a beautiful little parsley leaf to place on top as a garnish. The Silver-inlaid Sprouts were complete.

Because the sprouts were not simply fried or prepared by any other cooking method, they looked no different from before they were cooked. But upon closer inspection, one could see a layer of golden sheen on the finished Silver-inlaid Sprouts, glistening with oil.

Carrying the dish from the stove, Chen Nuo presented it to Sun Wukong, "Try it."

As soon as Chen Nuo came out, Sun Wukong, fearing that Master would scold him for slacking off while supposed to be punished, quickly turned back to threading pork.

In fact, he had already finished threading the remaining two plates of bean sprouts while Chen Nuo was simmering the broth, but in his panic, he had forgotten about it.

The aroma of the broth was so appetizing that Sun Wukong involuntarily swallowed his saliva, and it wasn’t until Chen Nuo placed the dish in front of him that Sun Wukong’s eyes widened in disbelief, pointing at himself with his index finger, "Master, are you letting me eat this?"

"Why, won’t you eat it?" Chen Nuo asked, then pretended to take the dish away.

Sun Wukong couldn’t possibly refuse, it was just that happiness had come so suddenly he hadn’t had a moment to react.

"I will eat, how could I pass on the delicacies made by Master," Sun Wukong said with a grin, eyeing the food on the plate and swallowing mouthfuls of saliva.
