Chapter 176: Confusing Timeline (5)

He knew I’d come?

Confusion flashed on his face, and Rise’s mouth parted as he frowned, almost asking what he meant. However, Kamille already beat him to it.

"What do you mean?"

Compared to his lack of enthusiasm earlier, His tone carried a hidden danger this time.

The other Kamille momentarily paused, then the longing on his face faded and was quickly replaced by a mocking one, as though that was his default expression against Kamille.

His face turned to Kamille, and his hand fell.

His lips curled in a sneer. "You can’t know."

Seeing Kamille frowned. He paused, then shook his head with a chuckle. "Of course, you’re too weak to understand."

Kamille’s jaw ticked, getting annoyed.

"Why not explain so I can understand?" Kamille firmly watched the other, hands securely embracing Rise.

Rise bit his lips, forcing himself to calm down. Why was it... he was the one who understood the other Kamille instead? If... they were really thinking about the same thing.

His gaze intensified, glaring at the other Kamille. Though he knew the other could feel it, he did not look to Rise’s way.

The other Kamille only continued to taunt Kamille, his smirk widening. It almost made Rise take a second glance because... what the hell? Was Kamille capable of wearing such expressions now?

"Then, better listen." The other Kamille put down his smirk and dangerously stared at Kamille with a twisted expression, and opened his mouth to speak.

A second after he spoke, Kamille’s head subconsciously tilted. His expression became readable at that point. There was annoyance and confusion.

"What did you say? I didn’t hear a thing."

And yes, indeed. Kamille only saw his lips move, but no voice came out, which made him feel the other was still mocking him.

The other KKamille stared, unsurprised. Then, he laughed, yet did not sound like one. It was more like a crying one, but his expression said otherwise.

It sounded too sinister that the whole place darkened, the hellfire behemoths grew and multiplied as wind roared for the impending storm. Even the sky and land cracked and shattered further.

When he had had enough, he now wore a terrifying calm expression. It was as though the earlier outburst was merely an illusion.

"Truly..." The other Kamille looked at Kamille before landing at Rise beside him, who was now extremely pale, as if the blood on his face had left him. "...unfortunate." The last word was low and weak.

He stared at Rise, who was also doing the same with a trembling gaze.

How come... Rise’s heart was pounding so hard that he could not hear anything else but his heartbeat.

Even if he already anticipated it. Hearing this from the other’s own mouth was another. Unlike Kamille, Rise had heard everything the other had said.

Clearly.

And... his heart seemed to connect with the other’s emotions. Now he understood that the other Kamille was not just mocking Kamille, but also himself.

More so, himself.

In fact, the other Kamille spoke only for a short second; what he said was not even detailed, and only two sentences. And yet, those were enough to shake Rise to the core.

[The world is an illusion, and so is our destiny. Someone out there is manipulating us, creating fates we don’t want.]

He said.

Rise heaved, his hands trembled, and he closed his eyes, so he could stop and avert his gaze from those crimson eyes. As he closed his eyelids, a single tear fell, and he could not help but lower his head to mask the sorrow he was feeling.

He already knew all this, so why was he feeling this way? Rise knew the reason. Simply because... it came from his beloved’s mouth. Yes, that was not the present Kamille, but... thinking this was the past Kamille who was also loved by the past Rise.

All of them. They were one.

Rise could not imagine... how long all this has been going on?

"Rise?" Kamille’s voice sounded beside his ears. "Do you feel unwell?"

Rise opened his eyes, immediately meeting Kamille’s worried ones.

He did not answer. He did not want to speak; doing so might make him cry, and made Kamille all the more worried.

"We need to talk." This voice came from ahead of them.

Kamille clicked his tongue, jaw clenching.

"No." He firmly replied.

"Heh. You don’t have any say."

Immediately, Kamille’s eyes turned crimson. For some reason, his heart was raging, and he could not calm himself. Also, seeing Rise was still affected by the other Kamille made his killing intent intensified.

"Wait." Rise panicked, and he held KKamille. He turned to the other Kamille and shook his head, pleading. "Please..."

He knew Kamille had no chance at all. And the other Kamille would not kill Kamille. But... if he became more pissed off when he was already unstable, Rise did not know if the same still applied.

"Rise... don’t talk to him." Kamille snapped, making Rise flinch. His crimson pupils flickered, and the raging black fire around them also grew.

However, compared to the other Kamille, they look pitifully small.

"Kamille... please."

Rise did not even know who was talking to, or for both of them. He did not want them to fight.

His eyes widened. "No... stop!"

The other Kamille looked at Rise at first, before his eyes flickered dangerously and the behemoth around moved, and soon, under Rise’s cries, the two fires collided.

It was no surprise that Kamille’s fire was completely engulfed before the behemoth opened its mouth to devour Kamille, who was also being embraced by Rise.

It only took a moment. And everything went dark.

Rise was still shouting at that point, but his eyelids were too heavy, for he unwillingly succumbed to it. His arms on Kamille were still firm despite all that.

There wasn’t any pain when his skin touched the fire, but maybe that was how it always was for hellfire? He did not know.

So, when his eyes opened after that, he understood that the other Kamille did not have the intention to kill them. Or...

Rise’s eyes opened, and he abruptly sat up, eyes trembling, and swept to his surroundings.

"Kamille!" Rise hysterically called, his emotions chaotic. What if...

This thought was cut short.

"He’s here." A familiar voice cut in.

Rise looked up.

"Kamille?" He asked absent-mindedly.

The other nodded and pointed at the other bed. Rise glanced where he was pointing, and a sigh left him. His knees grew weak, but he still slowly arrived where the sleeping Kamille was.

He held Kamille’s hand and could not help but burst into tears.

He was so scared. Rise’s chest moved up and down, trying to breathe as he cried. He also felt the pulse and cried even harder.

He was alive. Still alive.

"Why? Why do this?" Filled with grievance, Rise poured his blame. With tears in his eyes, he turned to the side.

The other Kamille now sat where Rise slept earlier and was watching him. Rise glared at him; he found himself too angry, but seeing that face, he also felt them fading.

So, his tears began to fall again, and he lowered his head, cupping Kamille’s hand.

The other Kamille did not answer or interrupt and only waited for Rise to calm down.

"You... how are you here?" Rise spoke after a while.

There was only silence for a few seconds, when Rise lifted his head and found Kamille’s gaze on him.

"As I said, I knew you’d come." Kamille’s gaze lingered, and a small smile spread across his lips, but the crack on his face became apparent because of this. "I’m waiting for you. And now, you’re here."
