Chapter 61: Chapter 61

|3rd POV|

"Archer! Split in half! One to the left and the other stay here! Mage! Go down and prepare to enchant the gate! We need them!"

Alexander’s right-hand man, Lux, shouts the command to the other as he looks at the incoming enemy. While his lord is busy holding back the right wing with his cavalry and hit-and-run tactic, the one on the left keeps marching with their siege engine.

"Fire arrow! Get ready!"

He shouts while looking at the massive siege tower in front of him. He swings his hand down when he sees the archers around him ready.

"Shot!"

A hundred arrows fly at the siege engine, and when they hit it, it starts to catch on fire. It starts slow, but a hundred fire arrows hit at once will make the fire spread faster.

However, before it can destroy the siege engine, the mage on the ground quickly chants something. Sadly for the mage, Lux sees him chanting. He takes the bow next to him and nocks an arrow. He aims and shoots an arrow at the mage. It hits his head and cancels the chant he is doing.

While Lux and the others defend the wall, Alexander is now going toe-to-toe against the enemy commander. He swings his sword to the right, and when he sees the giant of a man block his sword with the shield in his hand, Alexander moves to the left and kicks him right in the stomach.

The kick is strong enough to make his opponent stagger, and Alexander uses it to his advantage. He dashes forward and thrusts his sword forward. Seeing the incoming attack, the enemy commander widens his eyes and suddenly shouts.

"[Wall of the Holy City]"

Another golden wall appears instantly, but Alexander smirks instead of looking worried. He takes out a war horn in his belt and blows it. After he blows it, his men, who are fighting the enemy, suddenly change course.

They take a U-turn and dash in the opposite direction from their original one. This is all Alexander’s plan. He fights the enemy commander alone, making him desperate enough to call upon his power.

When he does that, he knows that the location of his Golden Wall will be different from the first one. This time it did not cover the one on the far right, and with the foot soldier in the opposite direction, it was time for his cavalry to enter their inner formation.

"Y-You!"

"Heh. It looks like you fall for the trap, huh? Anyway, thank you."

After fighting the enemy commander for ten minutes, Alexander notices something. His enemy can only call his power every minute, and the power will last for thirty seconds. He also learns that while the golden wall blocks his attack, it also blocks anything from inside the wall.

And that is not the fatal flaw. The biggest flaw is how he cannot move or cancel that power. That leaves him useless for thirty seconds in this war.

Alexander runs as far as his feet can take him toward his horse, awaiting his return. When he mounts his trusted steed, he quickly follows his soldier into the inner formation of the enemy.

Quickly, he started to lead his unit once again. He swung his sword left and right to kill any soldier coming in his path.

After a minute of continuous riding, they arrive at a group of catapults ready to fire a massive boulder at the wall.

"Charges!"

Alexander points his sword at the enemy and orders his steed to run forward. His men follow him from behind, raining havoc into the enemy formation. With a powerful swing, Alexander creates another mana crescent and lets it fly at the catapults. When it touches the catapult, the attack cuts it in half rendering it useless.

They continue to charge deeper into the enemy formation, and when they destroy ten of the catapults, Alexander takes out his war horn and blows it three times. Hearing the war horn, his men order their horse to take a U-turn and start to retreat.

They have fulfilled their mission, and it is time to get back.

They continue to fight their way out of the enemy formation and quickly get closer to the fortress. However, as they ride back to the fortress, Alexander has a bad feeling about it. He looks back and sees the enemy commander did not order any chase, and even the archer stopped firing at them.

"Something is wrong... But I cannot put my hand on it."

"Ambush!"

Alexander snaps from his thoughts when one of his men shouts. He looks to the left and sees an enemy army charging from the Danger Zone.

"Tch. I know it. They use the Danger Zone to cover their army."

Gokuya Kingdom spent a lot of money and resources to create a safe haven in the Danger Zone. They spend a lot of money to hire mercenaries to help them create a small fortress to hide their soldiers inside the forest. This is the reason why they delayed the invasion quite a bit.

It is not completely safe, and they need constant vigilance because of the monster that keeps popping out of the void crack. They lose quite a bit of soldiers in defending the area, but their plan proves to be working.

Their cavalry charges at Alexander and his unit. At the same time, three units of foot soldiers change direction, and now Alexander needs to fight the foot soldiers fast enough before the cavalry arrives.

Captain Lux knows that his lord cannot fight against that many people. He looks down at the other captain and says.

"Unit three! We need your group to help Lord Alexander! Go west!"

He then quickly runs toward the gate and informs the gatekeeper to open the gate momentarily. This is risky, but he cannot ignore his lord surrounded by the enemy. When the gate slowly opens, four hundred shield bearers leave the wall and create a formation to protect the one behind them.

However, before they can run, the enemy commander blows another warhorn. This time it is a loud and long one. A second later, the cavalry on the back slowly marching started to charge forward at unbelievable speed.

Alexander knows something is not right. He looks at them for a second and notices the one in the front of the formation. He is glowing and leaving a silver trail behind him.

"Dammit. Another Talent user."

He quickly takes out his warhorn and blows it four times in quick succession. Hearing this, all of the Cunningham Armies stop moving and hold their ground. This signal means All-Out-Defence. That means they need to make sure the fortress survives.

Lux grit his teeth and order the men on the outside of the wall to retreat back, then order the men next to him to close the gate.

Alexander looks at the gate and smiles a little. He looks at his unit around him and says.

"Well, lads! It looks like this is our end. I’m sorry to drag you with me. What a failure of lord I’m, huh?"

Before his men can say something, a voice comes from the sky.

"Like hell, this is the end! [Yggdrasil]!"

A massive tree appears above them and quickly heals any injury the Cunningham Army has. Not only that, but they also feel refreshed as their body is filled with stamina. The army looks to the sky and sees Gwyndolin land on the ground with his staff in his hand, followed by Jullian and the others.

"This is the beginning!"
