Chapter 62: Chapter 62

|3rd POV|

The Lord Commander of the Northern Invasion, Charles ’The Great’ Vortigern, looks to the sky and frowns at the silhouette of the giant trees. He knows the fight will be hard and long when the king orders him to lead the biggest army ever created in the Gokuya Kingdom.

Charles did not fear the Gipan Kingdom. No. He fears who is the one guarding it. He feared the Southern Noble or many in the Gokuya Kingdom called the Unbreakable Wall of the North.

It has been seventy years since the King of Gokuya Kingdom declared that his kingdom was militaristic and set unification as its main target. What unification did you ask? Unification of the Southern Continent.

However, that dream was stuck in one location. They are stuck in Cunningham County, and just like in the past, he fears this campaign will be the same. Charles is an ambitious man, and his title, the Great, proves that.

He leads campaign after campaign and gets even more prestige with every victory he brings. Sadly, all that happened when he led an army to the South. He argues with the king that they should be attacking the South, and when the time is right, they can conquer the North with all their army.

However, the king did not listen, and now they needed to pull most of their army from the South and gather at this point. He did not know what made the king change his mind, but he had a suspicion that one of the advisors whispered a sweet word into the king’s ear.

He can only clench his fist and obey orders to lead the army into battle. His original plan is to ensure the most dangerous enemy, the Peerless Swordsman, Alexander Cunningham, is dead.

At first, his plan was working. He lures the enemy commander out of the wall and ambushes them with the army in the forest. However, it all changes when the massive tree above him appears out of nowhere.

In the distance, he sees a group of people fall from the sky and land next to Alexander and his men. He knows the young man leading this small group of people. He is Alexander’s son, and he had heard about him before.

The rumor of him saving an entire kingdom alone and how he beat a massive monster alone with his magic. Charles did not believe the rumor as the truth but knew it was foolish to dismiss it entirely.

He put Gwyndolin as a powerful mage and was wary of him. Seeing the tree and its effect on his enemy, Charles orders a regroup. A massive warhorn is being blown, and the people start to retreat slowly, and his men slowly regroup.

Alexander looks at the enemy retreating and knows it is time to return to the fortress. He knows that the fight will get even harder.

"Get back to the fortress! Go! Go! Go!"

Gwyn and the others nod and quickly run to the fortress. They go through the gate that slowly opens up and see it closing once again. Alexander, Jullian, and Gwyn quickly run to the wall to look at the enemy. Seeing that the enemy was also retreating, Alexander looked at his son and said,

"Why are you coming here?"

Gwyn looks at his father and says.

"I come to help."

"Did your mother not tell you not to come here?"

"No. We did not go back to Shadowfall and went straight here."

Alexander can only sigh and start to think of a new plan involving his son. He is the Lord of Cunningham County, not Alexander Cunningham, Gwyn’s father.

"I see. You will stay here and lead the people on the wall. I will leave the healer and the mage in your hand."

"Yes, my lord"

Gwyn knows that this is not his father. No. This is Lord Cunningham, the Lord Commander of the Army, who acts as his subordinate, not his heir.

Alexander nods and looks at Jullian, who quickly straightens his body when Alexander looks at him.

"Jullian"

"My lord!"

"I hear you awaken your talent?"

"Yes, my lord! It is called [Lightning Lord]! It lets me control lightning and enchant my body with lightning, making it slightly durable and increasing my speed tremendously."

"Good. I need you to lead the second unit of Fenrir when the enemy gets close to the wall. Jump down the wall and wreak havoc. That is the second unit of fenrir."

Alexander looked at the group of people standing behind the wall with their weapons in hand. This unit of Fenrir specializes in offense, and he knows that Jullian is a perfect person to lead them.

"Yes, my lord! We will not disappoint you!"

"I know you won’t. Lead them to the left wall and start bombarding the enemy with arrows. Take some of them from the armory, quickly."

"Yes!"

Jullian quickly jumps down the wall and talks to the group’s temporary leader. After a few seconds of talking, seven of them quickly run to the armory, and the rest move to the left side of the wall.

Alexander then looks at the distance and sees the enemy start to move but this time in a more orderly manner. Shieldbearer in the front, spear behind them, and the long-range enemy on the last line.

"They change their strategy. The previous one is the lure, and this is their real formation. It looks like that man is not the real Lord Commander of the army."

Alexander can see the commander he fought earlier leading the army, but he knows he is not the kind of person who can rally the enemy this fast. He can read someone, and this enemy commander is the type who fights with instinct rather than a tactic.

"Father, what should we do now?"

"Now? We will hold the enemy off until the sun goes down. Gwyn, I need you to prepare your group to intercept any boulder coming from the sky. It looks like they are done building the rest of their Siege Machine."

In the enemy’s camp sit seven Trebuchets ready to fire a massive boulder at the enemy wall.

"Of course, my lord."

"Good! Go! The mage is waiting for you on the tallest tower."

Gwyn nods and quickly runs to the tallest tower. The second stage of the war has started.
