Chapter 60: Chapter 60

|3rd POV|

Alexander looks at the enemy with a grim expression. They are getting closer and closer. He takes a deep breath and starts to count. He counts how close the enemy needs to be for the archer to fire their arrows.

When they reach a certain distance, Alexander suddenly shouts.

"Archer! Get ready!"

Two hundred archers nock their arrows and aim at the sky. Alexander looks at the enemy and swings his hand down.

"Fire!"

Two hundred arrows fly to the sky, creating a shadow that rains upon the enemy. The Gokuya Kingdom commander quickly takes action and removes one of the five war horns on his belt. After he blows it, the soldier who has a shield quickly forms a formation.

They put their shields on top of them. While some of the arrows manage to hit them, it is not as lethal as the one that gets hit without the shield. They quickly retreat to the back and let the one with the shield lead them.

Seeing the enemy changing formation, Alexander looks at the group of mages inside the highest towers and shouts.

"Mage! Fire Magic! On my mark!"

The mages on the tower nod and start chanting. With the archers firing their arrows, Alexander looks around for a few seconds and knows where to send the spells. He takes the bow and arrow sitting next to him, channels some of the mana into it, and sees it shine brightly.

He nocks his arrow and fires at the location in his mind. After the arrow lands on the ground, the mage quickly points their weapons in the direction the arrow lands. Ten massive fireballs flew at high speed a second later and hit one of the units holding a shield and the area around them.

The explosion happened, and it killed a lot of their enemy. However, Alexander frowned when he saw a group of mages create a shield in front of the army and block all the spells his mage unit sent at them.

Seeing no other choices, he looks at the captain standing beside him and says.

"You will take command. Make sure the archer and mage hit the one on the back. Hit that thing."

Alexander points at the massive war machine slowly coming their way. There are Siege Towers slowly getting close to the wall, battering rams ready to destroy the gate, and catapults ready to fire their ammunition when the range is right.

"We cannot let them get any closer."

"However, my lord! They are too far away, and the catapults will always have higher ranges than us."

"Then take care of the Battering Ram and Siege Tower. I will try to destroy the catapults."

After saying that, Alexander jumps off the wall and walks toward the white horse waiting for him. He touches the horse’s head and says.

"It looks like we are going back into battle, old friend."

The horse purrs under his touch and pushes its head deeper into his hand. After a few seconds, Alexander nods and gets on his horse. He looks at his men, who also mount their horses. He knows that getting out of this fortress is not a good idea, but he and his men need to hold the enemy as long as they can so the reinforcement from the other Southern Noble comes.

With this place as the only place the army can go through without worrying about the monster attacking, it is easy to defend. However, the enemy also knows this, and they will send their greatest army to this point to take over this place and have a secure point for supply and reinforcement.

That is why he will make it sometimes. As long as they have time, they can survive and even win, just like his father and grandfather did in the past.

"Listen! Outside this wall is our enemy! They want to take our home! They want to take away our beloved! They want to destroy our way of living! Do you want to let them do that?! Do you want to let them do what they want?!"

"NO!!!"

Alexander smiles a little at his men’s answer to his question.

"We are Fenrir! The sword that defeats evil! We are Okami! The shield that protects the innocent! We are Southerners! We who endure the harshest place on the planet! We who endure the continuous attack from the enemy and monster! What about another attack?! We will endure it, and this time we will not only endure! We will attack!"

When he hears the catapults attacking their wall, Alexander takes a deep breath and shouts.

"Open the gate!"

The gate slowly opens, and Alexander points his sword at the enemy in the distance when it completely opens.

"Charges!"

Hundreds and fifty elite soldiers were getting out of the fortress at his command. When the enemy commander sees Alexander and his men coming out of the fortress, he grins and says.

"This is what I’ve been waiting for! Archer! Aim at the cavalry! Second Mage Unit! To the front and prepare to receive them! Barrier! We cannot let them get through our defense!"

Thirteen mages come forward and start chanting. Seeing the mage come forward, Alexander knows they are trouble he must take care of. With a deep breath, and push a lot of mana into his sword.

He swings his sword forward, creating a crescent moon-like energy that flies at the enemy. Swordsmen can learn how to wield mana, but unlike mages, they do not have the reserve of a mage. That attack alone is a quarter of the mana Alexander has.

He releases a long breath and sees his attack fly through the battlefield. However, he starts to frown when he sees what happens next.

He sees the enemy commander jump from his horse, remove a massive shield from his back, and then slam it to the ground.

"[Wall of the Holy City]!"

After he shouts that, a massive towering wall made of a golden aura appears around him, blocking the incoming attack. The enemy commander smirks at Alexander mockingly.

"Hah! Is that all you can do?! I know you! You are a pure swordsman! You need mana to use that attack but me?! I’m [Shield Lord], using my talent to block all your attacks! I can do this all day!"

Another reason why Talent is considered a cheat. Without talent, you need quite a bit of mana to use some kind of attack, but with talent, that cost is cut down up to 90% or even 99% for a powerful talent.

Alexander knows that the fight gets even harder than he thought.
