Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Sorry to Disappoint You

"Supervisor Callahan, isn’t that going a little too far? Maybe she just needs time to adjust to the new role. You should be more patient and understanding with new employees, not just write off all her hard work." Caleb Forrest’s face darkened as he defended Ivy White.

Ivy White stood to the side, her face pale and her eyes red, tears welling up as if they might spill at any moment.

Grace Winslow rolled her eyes.

’Her acting really is as good as ever.’

’Crying at the drop of a hat.’

’People always subconsciously sympathize with the weak.’

’Ivy White looks so delicate, and she’s an expert at faking it. She always plays the victim to make everyone pity and sympathize with her, to the point that they overlook just how outrageous and disgusting her actions are.’

Grace Winslow spoke, her voice cool and clear. "If you can’t handle the work, why did you steal someone else’s job?"

"Once you take a job, you need to be responsible. ’Not adjusting’ isn’t an excuse for being lazy and incompetent. Caleb Forrest, you have no right to make excuses for her. You were the one who recommended her. If something goes wrong, are you going to take responsibility for the fallout?"

Caleb Forrest’s face flushed red.

"Grace, what nonsense are you talking about? How could anything possibly go wrong?"

"I know you’ve got something against Vivi, but there’s no need to be so aggressive."

"She just lost her husband, and she’s all alone with a newborn baby. You can see how difficult her situation is." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"I always thought you were a considerate and kind person. I never imagined you could be so vicious."

"It seems I really need to re-evaluate whether our marriage should even continue. I really can’t keep someone so malicious by my side."

Caleb Forrest’s voice was stern, each word landing with force.

’Anyone who didn’t know the full story might actually think he was the one in the right.’

Grace Winslow, however, laughed out loud. "Caleb Forrest, since when is telling the truth considered ’vicious’?"

"Is your so-called ’kindness’ all about me sacrificing my own interests and my own life for someone else’s benefit?"

"Well, I’m terribly sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not about to sacrifice myself to accommodate a homewrecker who seduced my husband and destroyed my family."

"Is she even worthy?"

"Grace, you... you’ve completely misunderstood. It’s not like that between Caleb and me. After you’ve said such things, how am I supposed to go on? Do you really want me to die?" Ivy White sobbed, leaning into Caleb Forrest’s arms, gasping for breath. As she listened to Grace Winslow, she could barely suppress the hatred in her eyes.

Her voice was choked with sobs, her eyes red and swollen from crying, and she looked utterly pitiful.

Oscar Osborne, however, remained silent, his expression cold.

He wasn’t a fool; he could see the sordid affair between Ivy White and Caleb Forrest at a glance.

However, he didn’t care about that. He was more concerned with matters of work.

He was meticulous and a stickler for the rules in everything he did, and he wouldn’t allow anyone to break them.

"Oh, really? Then go ahead and die. How about right now?" Grace Winslow wasn’t falling for Ivy White’s routine at all.

"I didn’t come here to watch your performance, Ivy White. I earned this job on my own merit; it wasn’t some backdoor arrangement from Caleb Forrest. If you want a job, have him arrange it for you. I don’t care whose position you squeeze out, but aside from Caleb Forrest, don’t even think about taking anything else that belongs to me."

Caleb Forrest’s expression turned ugly.

’What was Grace trying to say with that? That I’m some piece of trash? On what grounds is she just casting me aside?’

Oscar Osborne, who had been watching the drama unfold for a while, finally spoke. "Alright, Caldwell. Since there’s a problem with Ms. White’s performance, the work that was supposed to be Ms. Winslow’s should go back to her. Ms. White, you can go to finance to settle your wages for the days you’ve been filling in."

Grace Winslow, however, cut in before Ivy White or Caleb Forrest could speak. "Hold on. Ms. Callahan, I’m sure Ivy White has handled a number of things over the past few days, right? Why don’t we review her accounts first? I’m afraid if I take over now, I’ll also be inheriting any messes she’s made. If I’m expected to compensate for any losses, I can’t afford it. And once Ms. White has left the position, she might not be so willing to admit her mistakes."
