I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 28: A Public Face-Slapping
"Me? Drive her to her death?"
"Caleb Forrest, you were the one who spread rumors all over the factory, saying I wanted to divorce you because I had another man on the side."
"When you spread those rumors, you never stopped to think that they might drive me to the brink."
"Now I’m just telling the truth, and what? Suddenly Ivy White is being driven to her death by me? She’s going to die?"
"If that’s really the case, then let her die."
"Every job at any company is meant for one person, and for some specialized roles, you have to compete for the position. I earned this job on my own merit, so why should I have to give it to her? Who does she think she is?"
"Caleb Forrest, don’t think that just because you’re the deputy director, you can give the job that belongs to me to someone else."
Sometimes, you can’t help but laugh when you’re left speechless.
Hearing Caleb Forrest’s words, Grace Winslow couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
’He keeps insisting I’m driving Ivy White to the brink.’
’So she can’t go on living unless she steals someone else’s husband and someone else’s job?’
’In that case, she deserves it.’
’So she gets a pass just because she’s "weak"?’
Director Osborne frowned. "Is this true?"
Caleb Forrest opened his mouth, wanting to explain, but what Grace Winslow had said was the truth.
All Oscar Osborne had to do was investigate, and he’d find out the truth. There was no point in lying.
Seeing Caleb Forrest’s reaction, Oscar Osborne understood.
He gave Caleb Forrest a long, hard look. "Go get the person you found to replace this lady, and bring her here. And while you’re at it, have the head of the finance department come over too."
"How long has she been working here?"
Caleb Forrest clenched his fists. "It’s been almost a week."
Oscar Osborne said nothing.
Caleb Forrest went to the finance department to get them.
Soon, the head of the finance department and Ivy White arrived.
When she saw Grace Winslow, the finance head’s eyes lit up. She walked over quickly. "You’re feeling better?"
"Yes, I am," Grace Winslow nodded.
She was about to say more, but Oscar Osborne spoke first. "When you were hiring before, was this the woman you chose?"
The finance head was May Callahan, a woman in her early thirties.
She had a no-nonsense personality and nodded. "That’s right. The financial statements Grace Winslow prepared are clear, concise, and incredibly easy to follow. They’re miles better than what we were producing before."
"However, she fell ill. I figured I’d just wait for her to recover before having her start, since our workload isn’t too heavy right now."
"A few days ago, Director Forrest came to see me and said that Grace Winslow no longer planned on taking the job and was giving it to someone else."
"I couldn’t get in touch with her, and since Director Forrest is my superior, I couldn’t really refuse."
"My plan was to put her on a trial period first to see if this Ivy White was up to the task."
"Actually, speaking of which, Director Osborne, I was planning to come to you about this in the next day or two."
"Ivy White may not be a good fit for the finance department. She’s careless, her spreadsheets are a complete mess, and her data entry is sloppy. She even makes mistakes on simple calculations. On top of that, she’s constantly away from her desk without permission, and we can never find her."
"I don’t think she’s here to work. It’s more like she’s here to freeload."
May Callahan was practically fuming just talking about Ivy White.
Grace Winslow was surprised. ’She hadn’t expected Ivy White to be so irresponsible at work.’
’Nothing like this seemed to have happened in her past life. Or perhaps it did, and she just never knew about it.’
Caleb Forrest’s face turned ugly at her words.
He was the one who had brought her over, who had shoved her into the finance department. Now, being publicly berated by May Callahan, he felt as if he’d been slapped hard across the face.
