Chapter 35: Entertainment Street

Mikhail and Kevin walked out of the mana bus at the bus stop of 31st Street.

The street was quite similar to the other streets in the city but much more colourful.

Lights of every shade illuminated most of the shops on either side of the street.

"What do you want to play?" Kevin asked, giving Mikhail a look. "Or should we visit the club?"

"Club is better." Mikhail replied, already walking. "We still have enough time to play a few games."

Kevin nodded and walked by his side, putting his hands in his pockets.

He let out a sigh and said in a soft tone. "I will miss this place once we go to the capital city."

Mikhail blinked and nodded his head gently. He too was going to miss the place.

During the last two years that he had spent in this world, this place was the closest to what he had experienced in his own world.

Though most of the games here resembled the games of the 1990s from his world, it was still better than nothing.

’I still don’t understand how humans reached this level of technology with all the things going on around them.’ 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

In the history of humanity there had rarely been a time where they were not in constant danger.

It was astonishing to Mikhail how much they had grown despite being on the brink of extinction for so long.

Both of them reached the club, which was three stories tall, and walked inside. It had all sorts of games.

From a small football field in the back to rackets and even electronic games as well.

A young man greeted them once they reached the reception. "How long would you stay?"

"Two hours." Mikhail replied.

"That would be 20 Telen for two of you." The young man said with a professional smile.

Kevin took out a note of twenty that had the old face of the first King Julius Aegon I on it and passed it to him.

Mikhail glanced at him. "I could have paid—."

"Don’t sweat it." He replied and took the coupon from the young man. "Let’s go!"

Mikhail sighed and walked towards the closest arcade machine.

It was a big box with a screen and two different controllers on it. The game resembled ’Tekken’ from Mikhail’s old world.

Kevin took the right controller and Mikhail took the left as they selected their players.

"Fight!!"

The game began and both of them began to control their characters skillfully.

Mikhail kept a serious face as he asked. "Do you have any plans to get a girlfriend anytime soon?"

Kevin, who was well aware of the tactics Mikhail used, replied softly. "Why do I need a girlfriend when I have you."

"...Not the answer I was expecting." He grumbled. "But do you have anyone in mind?"

Kevin turned silent and kept on playing defence in the game.

"I would love to find a girl that is from a noble family." Kevin mumbled softly. "I don’t have any problems with the daughters of parliamentary representatives."

The Aegon Kingdom had been a monarchy for a long time, but after a revolution that happened following a ten percent increase in taxes, a parliament was introduced.

The representatives of parliament were divided into two different groups: the commoners’ house and the aristocracy house.

Both houses had 108 members from the kingdom and were responsible for the introduction and establishment of bills.

The houses represented their own agendas but most of the members of the commoners’ house were pro-nobility as well.

Though nothing really changed as the final decision was still in the king’s hands. He could reject bills if backed by a solid reason.

"There is a high chance that you will have a lot of them flaunting over you in the university." Mikhail said in a casual tone. "After all, who wouldn’t want a King rank to back their family."

"Heh. I smell something burning." Kevin sneered. "Is that your ass?"

Mikhail hit a combo of moves and the word "K.O." appeared on the screen.

He won the first round as he turned to look at Kevin.

"Though, I would advise you not to get entangled in the politics." He said. "They are a bunch of snakes ready to bite you."

Kevin nodded his head and restarted the game.

"I know." He replied. "I would much rather have a girl from a fallen noble family."

He smiled and put his hands back on the controller. "Then I can complete my fantasy of bringing a dying family back to life and making it one of the strongest families."

"What a weird fantasy." Mikhail mumbled, getting back into the game.

He changed the topic. "...I will be back to hunting tomorrow."

Kevin nodded his head. "Tell me the time. I will go with you."

Mikhail didn’t reply as he focused on the game.

---

In the end they played for two hours straight. Mikhail won a total of 18 times and Kevin 8 times.

The way his face contorted with frustration clearly indicated that he didn’t like it.

Mikhail remained relaxed as his gaze fell on the familiar building while they stood behind the intersection.

It was the middle school of arts that he had visited yesterday to exorcise the children who were haunting the place.

’That reminds me....’

Mikhail turned to look at Kevin and said with a smile. "Do you believe in gods?"

Kevin tilted his head and replied with his own question. "Why are you asking that?"

"Tell me." He urged. "Do you?"

"No." Kevin replied, shaking his head. "They are just a bunch of frauds and the churches are just using their names."

"A bunch of frauds?" He asked, emphasising his words. "Really?"

"Yeah." He nodded his head. "If not for them then a lot of things would have been better."

Mikhail’s smile grew sweeter as he didn’t say anything else, though inside he was gloating at his gullible friend.

’Nice! If I ever die and get thrown into hell then I can be sure my dear friend will be there with me.’

The school bell rang and the children began to walk out according to their classes and teachers.

Mikhail immediately turned serious as he focused on the teachers.

As more and more teachers walked out, Mikhail couldn’t help but feel anxious.

’....Is he not a teacher here?’

The last class began to walk out and Mikhail still hadn’t found ’that guy.’ Most of the subject teachers had already walked out.

’....This won’t do.’

Mikhail quickly walked towards the main gate along with Kevin.
