Chapter 435: Chapter 434: The Girl from Six Years Ago (38)

For fear that Vera Wave might accidentally touch her wound, Kris Cooper had the doctor bandage her arm tightly. She found it unsightly and had already unwrapped most of the gauze. Only a single layer remained covering the wound, secured by a bit more gauze.

"Anyway, I’ll have to change the dressing tomorrow, so we can wrap it properly then." She took his arm and shook it playfully, pouting. "Kris, darling?!"

Her playful coaxing completely disarmed him, and he couldn’t remain firm.

"Alright. But you have to promise we’ll rebandage it properly tomorrow."

She instantly broke into a wide grin.

"Shall we go then?"

The three of them went downstairs together. The driver then took Kris Cooper and Vera Wave to the entrance of the Royal Dining Room.

Tommy Taylor opened the car door for them. Vera Wave followed Kris Cooper out. As they approached the main lobby of the Royal Dining Room, however, her lips formed a dismayed pout.

"Oh no, I forgot to bring the gift I prepared!"

She had meticulously prepared it, but in their rush, she’d forgotten the gift box at the company.

"Should... should I go back and get it?"

"There’s no need." Kris Cooper took her arm and guided her towards the elevator. "You *are* the best present!"

It was already late; going back to the company now would indeed take too long. Helpless, Vera Wave could only follow him upstairs.

After all, it was her first formal meeting with his elders, and it felt inappropriate to keep them waiting.

Unfortunately, she was wrong again.

An attendant led them to their reserved private room. As soon as the door opened, Vera Wave’s eyes fell upon a man and a woman seated at the table.

The woman was Bailey Hansen, someone she’d met before, who was now engrossed in playing a game on her phone.

A man sat next to her, his long arm resting on the back of her chair. He was leaning in to watch her play, occasionally calling out instructions.

"Forward... Retreat... Left, retreat... Further back... Ha! You little dummy!"

Staring at her character lying ’dead’ on the screen, Bailey Hansen shot him a furious glare.

"Christopher Cooper, are you asking for a beating?"

"You’re the one who’s clumsy. What are you blaming me for?"

"I only ’died’ because you were giving terrible instructions!"

"If I hadn’t been commanding, you would have ’died’ ten minutes ago!"

Vera Wave stood at the doorway, utterly astonished as she watched Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen bicker like two children.

Kris Cooper, ushering her into the room, saw the pair at the table and deliberately coughed loudly. How embarrassing! These grown-ups couldn’t even act a little more maturely in front of his future wife!

At Kris Cooper’s cough, the pair at the table immediately turned their faces.

"Come, come!" Bailey Hansen instantly put down her phone and came over with a smile. "Vera, quick, come in!"

Christopher Cooper also rose from the table. His charming peach-blossom eyes swept over Vera Wave in a casual, appraising glance.

"Good evening, Auntie," Vera Wave greeted with a sweet smile. "I’m so sorry about what happened earlier today. I didn’t realize who you were and made such a fool of myself."

"Oh, it’s nothing!" Bailey Hansen took her arm and led her to the table. "I just couldn’t wait any longer, and this little rascal Kris wasn’t willing to bring you. So, I had to take the initiative to meet you myself! I hope you don’t mind."

Vera Wave immediately shook her head.

Meeting Bailey Hansen under those circumstances had actually made it easier for Vera Wave to interact with her without reservations. Her first impression was that Bailey Hansen was straightforward and very warm.

She had been a little nervous initially, but meeting Bailey Hansen in person had put her at ease.

Her gaze then fell on Christopher Cooper, and she greeted him politely.

"Good evening, Uncle."

"Is your arm alright?" Christopher Cooper glanced at the gauze on her arm. "Bailey told me you were injured?"
