Chapter 43 - E- Rank [1]

Kai patiently waited for his turn in line.

As he reached the corner, his eyes fell on a beautiful young woman who greeted him with a practiced smile.

"How can I help you, sir?" she asked politely.

"I'd like to register as an adventurer," Kai replied, offering a smile of his own.

She nodded, picked up a document from her desk, and slid it toward him.

"Please fill out this form first, and then I'll evaluate your core rank."

The Essence Core ranks were slightly different from adventurer ranks.

While adventurer ranks reflected experience gained in the field, Essence Core ranks determined an individual's raw strength.

Although there was a subtle difference between the two systems, they were still comparable:

E-Rank = Lesser Core

D-Rank = Intermediate Core

C-Rank = Advanced Core

B-Rank = Elite Core

A-Rank = Master Core

S-Rank = Grand Core

SS-Rank = Ascended Core

SSS-Rank = Apex Core

The young woman gasped softly after glancing at the form Kai had filled out.

"Sir, you're a Beast Tamer? That's amazing!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise.

Even though Luna was perched on Kai's head, she had assumed he was just a rich boy flaunting his father's wealth.

She hadn't expected Luna to be his contracted beast.

"It's so cute~," she said cheerfully.

Kai chuckled. "Yup, she is. Her name's Luna."

"That's a lovely name. What kind of beast is she?"

"Oh, she's a Frost Fox."

The young woman nodded, smiling.

Kai didn't tell her the truth, as Zer had warned him that it would attract unwanted attention, so he lied about her being a Frost Fox.

Since she was white in color and had blue eyes, she looked somewhat familiar.

'She may resemble them, but there are very few distinct features. I doubt they'll suspect anything.'

Kai gently stroked Luna's ears.

Over the years, Luna had not only grown in size but had also learned to shrink her form and alter her features slightly.

She no longer looked the same as before—

Her golden patterns had vanished, and she had only one tail now.

"Alright, Mr. Kai. Your details look good, and you're eligible. Please place your hand on this Essence Crystal and pour your essence into it to evaluate your core rank," the young woman instructed, placing a crystal sphere in front of him.

Kai placed his hand on the crystal and began channeling his soul essence.

"By the way, Mr. Kai, there was another newbie adventurer registered yesterday, who was also a Beast Tamer."

"Oh, really?" Kai's eyes widened in surprise.

"Yes, and I hope you both become good acquaintances."

"I'd like to meet that person," Kai replied with a smile.

Just as the young woman glanced at the crystal, her eyes widened in shock.

'What?' She was momentarily stunned.

'How is his rank so high? Even her rank is lower than his... And he looks much younger!'

"Is something wrong, miss?" Kai raised an eyebrow.

"No, Mr. Kai. It's nothing," she quickly composed herself and waved it off.

His lips curled into a smile as he remembered what he had learned from Raven.

-

'I already told you about the ranking system of the Essence Core, right?

So, today I'll explain how they are accessed.

You see, the lowest rank of an Essence Core is the Lesser Core and the highest is the Apex Core.

Each rank is further divided into sub-ranks, which are—

Early Stage, Middle Stage, Peak Stage.

Example -

Early-Lesser Core

Middle-Lesser Core

Peak-Lesser Core

And they are identified by distinct colors:

From bottom to top, the colors are—

Gray, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Purple, and White.'

-

Seemingly recovered from her earlier shock, the young woman took a platinum-colored card engraved with the guild's insignia.

She placed it over an obsidian-black, square-shaped artifact and set the documents on top of it.

Muttering something under her breath, a green magic circle formed over the artifact, reducing the papers to dust.

She picked up the card and handed it to Kai.

Kai glanced at it.

[Name: Kai

Class: Beast Tamer

Sub-class: None

Essence Core: Peak-Intermediate Core

Rank: E-Rank]

The card now officially confirmed him as an adventurer.

The young lady smiled again.

"Sir, I know the assigned adventurer rank is lower than your Essence Core rank, but this is the standard for newly registered adventurers. If you want to evaluate and increase your rank, you'll need to complete at least 10 E-Rank missions."

Kai nodded in response, already aware of the procedure.

"Thank you. I'll get going now."

"See you soon, Mr. Kai."

Kai left the guild, holding the guild card with a satisfied smile.

As he walked along the cobblestone street, taking a few turns, he soon arrived at the inn where he was staying.

Luna leapt onto the bed, stretching lazily, while Vex joined her, and the two began playing.

Kai channeled his mana into his bracelet, retrieving a pouch filled with coins.

Clink! Clink!

The sound echoed softly as he poured the coins onto the table, sat down on the chair and began counting them.

"Okay, that's enough. Let's go shopping after lunch," he muttered, stretching lazily before standing up.

He descended the stairs and got food for lunch.

The reason he didn't eat outside and returned to the inn was because he had already rented the room, which included three meals a day.

Since it was non-refundable, he didn't want to waste his money and came back.

After finishing his food, he stepped out.

Walking along the cobblestone streets, he arrived at an old shop.

Pushing the wooden door open, he stepped inside.

The air was filled with the faint scent of steel and ash.

Several swords, spears, and axes hung against the wooden walls.

Daggers, throwing knives, and other small weapons were neatly placed inside glass counters.

A middle-aged man with a graying beard and bald head was sitting beside the counter.

As Kai entered, the man glanced at him and smiled.

"Welcome, sir. How can I help you?"

Kai moved closer, inspecting the weapons and equipment displayed in the shop.

"I want light armor, sturdy enough to take a few hits but without restricting my movements. Also, keep the budget mid-range."

The man nodded, his smile never fading.

He stepped back and returned with few things.

"Here, take a look at this," he said, placing a sleek, dark leather chest plate on the counter.

The armor felt sturdy yet surprisingly light, with subtle steel reinforcements hidden beneath the leather.

He also placed a black cloak, greaves, and a set of gauntlets and bracers on the counter.

Kai inspected the equipment carefully.

After a moment, he finally chose the chest plate and bracers.

"How much for these?" he asked, looking up at the man.

The shopkeeper stroked his beard, eyeing the chosen items with a thoughtful look.

"Hmm... since you're just starting out, I'll give you a fair deal," he said with a slight grin.

"That'll be 6 silver coins for both."

Kai nodded and pulled out a few coins from his pouch, placing them on the counter.

"Pleasure doing business with you," the man said as he scooped up the coins.

He wrapped the chest plate and bracers in a cloth bundle before handing them over.

Without saying another word. Kai grabbed the bundle and exited the shop.
