I am Just an Average Tamer-Chapter 44: E-Rank [2]
Chapter 44 - E-Rank [2]
After wearing the chest plate over his green shirt and fastening the bracers on both his arms, Kai left for the adventurers' guild.
He pulled out his adventurer's card and grinned.
'I'm finally going to do it. My very first mission as an adventurer.'
He placed his card back in his storage bracelet and continued walking across the cobblestone streets.
Soon, he reached the guild.
Without hesitation, he opened the door and glanced around.
'Hmm? There are way fewer adventurers here than yesterday. Maybe it's still morning.'
Then, he began walking toward the large wooden boards hanging against the wall.
Arriving near them, his eyes fell upon the board that listed missions for E-Rank adventurers.
"Are you kidding me?" His lips twitched as he read the missions displayed on the board.
'What kind of nonsense is this? Taking care of children? Walking pets? Help cleaning the grounds?'
As he was in dilemma of the unique missions noticed on the board.
Suddenly, he turned around as he felt someone tap his shoulder.
"Haha! Kiddo, you must be the new one here," said a man who appeared to be in his 30s. He was clad in full armor, with only his face visible.
"I was just as dumbfounded as you are back then. Since it's your first mission, just choose whatever you see first. No need to think too hard."
He scratched a notice and left.
Kai didn't payed him much mind and shifted his gaze back to the board.
"Ah!"
He exclaimed as he finally found something suitable for him.
He ripped a notice from the board and moved toward the counter on the left, where a middle-aged man was stationed.
He waited in line, and when it was his turn, he handed the notice to the man.
The middle-aged man read its contents, picked up another notice, stamped both of them, and handed one back to Kai.
"The deadline is today. You need to deliver 10 Moonlit Petals by evening," the man said.
Kai nodded and left the guild.
He glanced at the notice paper again while heading toward the Howlfen Forest.
[Mission Details]
Moonlit Petals: These delicate flowers bloom in night or dim light, their pale blue petals glow faintly under the moonlight. They grow in clusters. Despite their fragile appearance, they emit a calming fragrance that repels low-level beasts.
Location: Found in the middle parts of the Howlfen Forest.
Required Quantity: 10Reward: 15 Copper Coins
Kai's eyes lingered on the description for a moment before he quickened his pace, placing the notice back in his bracelet.
'Shouldn't be too hard... I just need to get there before sunset.'
Both Luna and Vex were trailing after him.
Soon, Kai reached the outskirts of Howlfen Forest.
He noticed many people going in and out of the forest. Without waiting, he entered as well.
Kai walked past smaller trees and lush bushes. After a few minutes, he began to hear the faint growls of nearby beasts.
'Hmm...'
He glanced around, as if checking for something.
He quickly turned around, jumped onto a tree, and dashed toward the northwestern parts.
Slowly, the sunlight began to dim as he drew closer to the middle region of Howlfen Forest.
His blurry form came to a halt as he landed on a tree branch. Vex and Luna perched beside him, their eyes scanning the area.
Kai smirked and descended from the tree, slowly walking toward the cluster of pale blue flowers.
'Well, that wasn't too hard.'
Just as he bent forward to pluck the flowers, he froze—
Sheech!
A loud shriek echoed in his ears. He turned his head and spotted them about 10 meters away—a group of three Plague Spiders staring at him.
Upon seeing them, Kai smiled. "Just one of you gave us a hard time when we first met. And now, there are three."
The spiders slowly began creeping closer.
"Let's see how much we've improved since then. "Kai unsheathed his dagger, pointing it at the one in the middle.
"Kill them!"
Both Luna and Vex let out a war cry.
A 1-meter-long ice projectile formed above Luna's head. Vex's figure blurred and disappeared.
Kai stretched his arm back.
In the next moment—
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The ice projectile struck the left spider's blocky head, smashing it like a melon. Vex hovered above the spider on the right and slashed her claws, beheading it.
Meanwhile, Kai's dagger plunged into the middle spider's head, causing blood to gush out.
Thud!
In one swift motion, the three spiders dropped to the ground, their bodies lifeless.
"Not even a warm-up. "Kai shook his head.
Without bothering with anything else, he plucked two flowers carefully and placed them inside his bracelet.
He then turned toward the lifeless spider bodies.
'If I remember correctly, we can sell monster loot to the guild.'
In the blink of an eye, he appeared beside them and stored the corpses inside his bracelet.
'Work here is done. Time to head back.'
Luna perched on top of his head while Vex stood beside him.
Kai stretched a little and vanished—Vex followed close behind.
He appeared at the outskirts and began walking toward the town.
The sun was high.It was still noon.
Soon, he reached the guild and got in line to his left.
When it was his turn, he handed over the notice and the flowers he had plucked from the forest.
The middle-aged man inspected them and gave Kai a firm smile.
"Good work," he said, handing Kai 15 Copper Coins before turning his attention back to the other documents on his desk.
"I have a question, sir," Kai said.
The man looked up and spoke in a firm tone, "What is it?"
"Where can I sell the beast loot?"
"At the equipment counter."
Kai nodded. "Thank you."
The man gave a firm nod in return.
Kai turned around and moved toward the counter in the right corner.
"I want to sell beast loot," Kai said as soon as he reached the counter, where a burly man, probably in his 40s, was standing.
The man raised an eyebrow at him and asked, "What kind of beast?"
"Plague Spiders!"
"Show me."
Kai channeled his mana into his bracelet and dropped the bodies of the Plague Spiders on the ground.
The burly man inspected them for a moment.
"Hmm... They'll be worth around 10 Copper coins."
Kai nodded, and the man handed him the coins.

Soon, a few workers arrived and dragged the spider bodies into the room beside the burly man's counter.
'It's still noon. What should I do?'
Kai stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Ah!"
He hurriedly strolled toward the notice boards and ripped off nine of the easiest missions.
'Since my core rank is already high, all I need is to complete 10 missions to meet the criteria.'
He stood in line and deposited all nine mission notices at once.
The middle-aged man raised an eyebrow in amusement.
"I want them all," Kai declared.
