I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 90: When did you start asking questions?
The words were like a stick hitting hard behind their heads. Didn’t this mean Raymond had become a rival into inheriting the title as chairman?
They looked at his dark glare on them and knew he was not going to go easy on them, especially when knowing they had taken his lover.
"Fine." Theo said. "You wanna compete for the seat? We’ll take you up on that."
"You’ll never win us, you bastard." Leo added.
The board leader reported their response to Philip and he bowed his head in shame.
"They said that in front of the board members, shareholders and executive directors?" He asked and the board leader nodded. "I’m starting to think I made a good decision accepting Raymond into the company. He might be an illegitimate child and knows how to raise my blood pressure on a daily basis but he is very wise and knows how to run a business without a hitch."
"His performance was excellent in solving the current crisis." The board leader praised. "His capabilities are far higher than the twins."
Philip gave it a thought. He valued his money and name better than his own blood so if he could preserve his family name and business with Raymond as the heir, he was ready to do that.
After that day, the battle got heated and the executives started leaning to Raymond’s side after hearing the scoop that he might become the next successor.
Raymond made sure to crush the twins’ position in the company and expose their true personalities. More people fell to his side and the twins kept getting annoyed.
Raymond held back a bit when annoying them. He held back because he feared for Ariel. What if they went back to take their frustration out on her? That would mean he was hurting her. He had to find her.
Paige and Skylar were the ones backing Ultio. They did it anonymously and since Raymond did not operate Ultio himself, there was no way for anybody to trace their connection.
He was using this ploy to win Philip’s favor. He was simply cleaning up the mess he was creating.
One day, Steve rushed over to Raymond’s company and arrived at his office, panting really hard.
"I... I found her." Steve said and Raymond immediately stood to his feet.
"What do you mean? Did you find Ariel?" He asked and Steve nodded causing Raymond’s eyes to widen.
Luckily, White was absent at the time. He was the one responsible for their multiple failed attempts at tailing the twins and finding Ariel. He always sent out a tip, anonymously about Raymond’s plan, so the twins knew how to avoid it and not get caught.
Paige started wondering how they couldn’t implement that same smartness in the business world. She also started suspecting there was a bug among them and surely, her suspect was the ever indifferent White.
"How did you find her? No, where is she?"
"A friend of mine. He was called in by the twins to treat a lady in a very far and secluded place and I suspect that lady is Mrs Ariel."
Raymond lost the strength in his legs and he sat back down. He felt weak. He had finally found her, right? He could save her from them and get her back.
"He sent his GPS location as soon as he got to the mansion because he was blindfolded and didn’t know where he was." He showed Raymond his phone and Raymond took it. He looked at the place. It was indeed far but it was in the country. Yet, they might’ve never found it if not for this.
"Thank you, Steve. Thank you." Raymond said, his hands clasped together in relief.
"It’s the least I could do. I was there when they took her away, Raymond. I should at least help to bring her back." He said and Raymond nodded.
Just then, White walked in and seeing their expressions, he wondered what was going on and asked,
"Did something good happen?" Steve immediately opened his mouth to speak.
"Yes, that’s..."
"When did you start asking questions?" Raymond asked, harshly, shocking Steve and White immediately bowed his head.
"I apologize."
"Get me a cup of coffee." Raymond demanded and White left to get the cup of coffee. After he was sure that White was gone, he sighed.
"What was that? Do you suspect him?" Steve asked.
"I don’t know." Raymond answered, shaking his head. "I just had a feeling that told me to keep this to ourselves."
Steve nodded his head in understanding. This might be their last chance to find Ariel so he didn’t want to take any risk even if it was White.
The next morning, Raymond came up with an elaborate plan. He remembered Paige warned him about White but he never gave it any thought but now that his own thoughts were nagging him, he decided to test him.
It was just him and White in the car. White was the driver and kept his eyes fixed on the road while Raymond acted like he was on the phone.
"Yes, I found where she is." He said. "By sunset, I will set out to get her." He looked over at the rearview mirror and saw White still focused on the road. "Yes, I will take a few guards."
He dropped the phone and wondered what would happen after that. If the twins rushed over to where they kept Ariel immediately then White was a traitor. If otherwise, then it was a misunderstanding.
He wished it were a misunderstanding because if it turned out that White was the traitor, then he... What would he do?
As soon as the car stopped at the underground garage, Raymond sent White to the two hours meeting outside the company on his behalf.
As soon as White left, Raymond immediately set out to the mansion, taking a different route the twins would definitely not take and then, he got a call from Steve. He looked at his screen for a while and then gave out a heavy breath, getting ready for whatever he was going to hear.
"So?" He asked and Steve, reluctant and uncertain, answered, 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"They both got in their car and left in a hurry." He said while looking at the live video from the city’s surveillance cameras. "They’re leaving the city and it looks like they’re going there." He said.
Raymond’s grip on the steering wheel tightened and he shut his eyes for a moment. This betrayal, it was so big and it broke him from within. He definitely should’ve kept his trust to himself.
"Steve, in an hour’s time, send guards my way. A total of fifty should do." He said and looked out the window for five seconds before saying with heavy breath, "Have White restrained till I get back. No matter how long I take, do not let him go."
