Chapter 89: Miss Paige, I love Ariel

After Ariel got kidnapped, Raymond declared war against the Steins and he started by posting the little fraudulent acts they carried out in their business. It wasn’t big but it was enough to spike up a disturbance.

In actuality, Raymond was targeting the twins. If he was going to become the successor, then he would have to take down the twins’ value. The pride of the Steins must fall.

While doing this, he was also secretly searching for Ariel. Leo and Theo were truly of Stein’s blood and they were really smart. Their trail was very hard to trace and each time it felt like they were getting in on them, they would immediately lose the trail.

Raymond couldn’t understand why. He carefully tried to trail them but he ended up losing them. It was as if someone was tipping them off and giving them info about their plans.

Days passed and weeks passed and Raymond grew extremely restless. He feared and worried for Ariel. He could only imagine what they were doing to her. Her struggles of the past, he had promised her she wouldn’t face something like that again but he couldn’t even protect her from his brothers. He was worthless.

"Ariel." He muttered painfully.

"Hello." He looked up to see Paige walking in with a file in her hand. "I just got this." She said and handed it to him.

He took it and took a look. Paige watched his expression. Pushing aside the ice cold look he put on on a daily basis, he looked like he would cry any moment. He must’ve been thinking about Ariel.

When she heard Ariel got kidnapped, she mobilized people to search but they found nothing. The twins were very clever and they managed to escape their eyes.

She even went as far as asking her grandfather for help but his response was so hurtful that she got angry. He said,

"What use does a whore have in this family?"

That was all she needed to hear to know that her grandfather would never lend a hand to help find Ariel. And to think everything would be okay if she had just taken Ariel to the family.

She was a bit relieved that she did not make such a mistake. If she had taken Ariel to the family and she was rejected in a cruel way, she wouldn’t know how to face Ariel ever.

While watching the stars one night, Skylar brought a cup of hot cocoa to her and wrapped a blanket around her.

"We’ll try harder." He said to her, "As long as she’s still alive, we will find her."

"I know." She responded but still looked on sadly at the stars. "I just feel we should do more. She’s probably suffering as we speak. Do you think she’s hating everyone who could save her but aren’t saving her?" She asked and lowered her gaze. "She must think we aren’t trying. She must think she’s been abandoned. How much pain would she go through once she comes to that conclusion?"

"Paige." Skylar called and shook his head. "I don’t know. I don’t know if she’s currently cursing at us and hating ever meeting us but what I wish for is that she holds on and does not give up."

"Yeah." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Paige looked at Raymond and let out a sigh.

"I know you miss her a lot and you worry about her but you shouldn’t let it affect your expression." She said, "You’re going to be meeting them soon so put on that ’nothing can shake me’ face."

"Miss Paige, I love Ariel." Raymond confessed. "And because I love her so much, I cannot simply pretend that I am fine when they have her in their custody." He put down the file. "Let them see me drowning in sadness. Let them know that I am pained by her disappearance. Let them know that the reason I am hell bent on crushing them is because they touched what belonged to me."

His dead cold eyes sent shivers down her spine and she had to give it to him, he was truly impressive in turning his heartache into a weapon.

"Alright." She said, "You can just do that. I’ll get going now." With that, she left as she came.

Raymond went to the meeting and there, he saw the twins for the first time after the kidnapping. His glare bored into their skin and then, he saw a few scratches on Theo’s neck. They were fingernail scratches. A woman’s fingernails.

He immediately knew who they belonged to and his blood boiled. Just thinking about what he was doing to Ariel while she scratched him like that made him angry and everyone present felt his anger.

The twins felt it and smirked in pride at the foolish feet they had achieved.

This meeting, being held in the Steins company, was called to talk about the numerous businesses, real estates, projects and firms under the Steins name that were currently being attacked.

A force was visibly fighting against them and though they suspected Raymond, they knew it wasn’t him (or so they thought). It was Ultio. (Bam, bam, bam!)

For Ultio to have such a huge impact on the Steins, it just didn’t make any sense and they concluded that there was another hidden force trying to bring them down and using Ultio as a front man.

"I get that we’re discussing this because we all have a place in this company but why is ’he’ here?" Leo asked, pointing at Raymond.

"Ahem." The board leader cleared his throat. "The chairman allowed him to be here."

"What?!" Leo and Theo exclaimed in unison. "That’s impossible."

"Dad would never let this bastard in the company. We’re the heirs."

"But he did." The board leader said. "You can ask him yourself if you doubt me."

"When and why did that happen? Why was he let in here?" Theo asked.

"That’s because I have a quick reaction and great business sense." Raymond answered in a cool yet cold manner, trying not to blow up on them. "I am the reason this company has little to no loss as we speak."

Leo and Theo stared at him with furrowed eyebrows. What was that supposed to mean? Sensing this unclear air, the board leader decided to explain clearly.

"When Ultio started attacking the company, Raymond Stein did all he could to fend off all the attacks, the rumors and the bureau from looking into all our subsidiaries. It was a critical moment and you two were nowhere to be found and so, the chairman acknowledged his effort and allowed him into the company."
