I Am An Illegitimate Child With A Legitimate Reason For Revenge-Chapter 70: The Winston grandchildren
Raymond and Ariel got to the side where the food table shone its delicious rays.
"Are you okay?" Raymond asked Ariel and she quickly smiled, nodding her head as she said,
"I’m okay. Just got the creeps for a moment there." Her convincing smile made him worry more. As great an actress Ariel was, it was almost impossible for her to hide pain and fear in her eyes.
Raymond placed his hand on her face, caressed it a bit and leaned in. Everyone had their eyes on them so seeing him suddenly lean closer, they were eager to know if he was going to kiss his partner or not. In any case, their eyes were wide open as they watched them.
Raymond leaned in but instead of kissing her on the lips, he pressed his own lips on the corner of her left eye.
"They’re staring." Ariel muttered, after catching the eyes of many that were on them.
"That’s good." Raymond said as he moved away and Ariel stifled a laugh. "What is it?" He cluelessly asked.
"This." She reached her hand to his face and brushed his lips with her thumb, trying to wipe something off but it just turned smudged and wouldn’t come off. "It won’t come off." She said and chuckled.
"What is it?"
"My eyeliner." She laughed. "It’s on your lips."
Surprised, Raymond swiftly took out his hanky from his pocket and she took it, leaning in to whisper,
"They’ll misunderstand." So she wiped it for him and handed the hanky back. She laughed. "Don’t worry, no one saw it."
Thanks to him backing everyone, she was the only one who got to see his lips stained with her red eyeliner. It was cute.
Raymond took her hand and cleaned the red eyeliner from her thumb. Then, he turned around, causing everyone to immediately shift their gaze and act like they weren’t watching the whole time.
"Tch." Yara scoffed and folded her arms. "Such a shameless couple."
Raymond heard this remark and grinned. If he can get such a reaction from Yara and ... His grin grew wider ... Such an expression from Philip then he’d be happy to do more.
Right then, Philip looked like his head would blow from frustration. It must’ve felt really annoying having his limelight stolen from him by his haughty son but since he was not a child, he had to keep it in.
The appointed time finally came and the invites were finally allowed into the big banquet hall. Gifts were dropped at a corner in hopes that they would find favor with the Steins.
While the celebration went on, a completely unexpected guest arrived. Two people, a male and a female both having jet black hair and pretty faces. They walked in majestically with a confident expression and stopped, scanning the entire place with their eyes.
Everyone knew who those two were. Well, everyone but Ariel.
Amongst the five great families in the country, the Albert family ranked second and the family that was ranked first was the Winston family.
Though the Steins were number two, there was a wide gap between the two families.
They had dominating connections far beyond the country and were related to many other foreign and high personnels in other countries.
Their connection was far and wide. They ruled the country and had a say in foreign affairs. And these two, they were the direct line grandchildren of the great Farmall Winston, the head of the Winston family. Paige and Skylar.
Seeing the two come in, everyone started wondering if the Stein family had found favor in the sight of the Winstons. For them to attend the head’s birthday then, they certainly had some sort of connection.
"Welcome." Philip greeted them. "I sent an invitation to your grandfather but I didn’t think he would actually come or send a representative. This is such an honor."
Sure, he had to lick the boots of two little brats that were still wet behind the ear but it was worth it. If he could establish some sort of business relation with Winston, he’d do anything.
"Yeah." Paige said with a polite smile and shook hands with him but it seemed like Skylar had his mind somewhere else, as he wouldn’t stop looking around with his eyes. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Is there something you’re looking for?" Philip asked and Skylar turned his gaze to him.
"No." He plainly answered and then smiled. "The venue is pretty. I couldn’t help myself from looking around." He said and stretched out his hand to shake him.
Philip took the honor and shook hands with Skylar in a dignified way.
Ariel looked away from them and looked at the half eaten strawberry cake Raymond was holding up for her. Then, she looked up at him. The way he stared at the two who just walked in gave her the feeling that he wanted to communicate with them.
"Do you know them?" She asked him and he finally tore his gaze from them and towards her. "You look like you want to talk to them."
"I don’t know them, Ariel." He said and cut a bit of the cake with the fork. "But I would love to know them."
"How come?" She asked and he pushed the cake to her mouth. She opened and he pushed it in her mouth.
"They’re big shots." Raymond said. "They’re the most influential in the country and even hold power over the president."
Ariel swallowed and looked at him with surprised eyes.
"Really?" She asked and turned to look at them. "They’re that rich?"
"Yes, Ariel." He gave her another bite and she ate it. "It would do me good to associate myself with them but I cannot simply walk up to them and say such things. I might just scare them away with my desperation." He explained and she nodded, turning her gaze to look at them one more time.
For a moment, she paused while Raymond focused on the cake.
"Okay, so you can’t approach them on your own, right?" She asked and he nodded. He failed to see her fixed gaze and said,
"It would be better if they noticed me and approached me on their own." Ariel nodded with her eyes still fixed.
"So, if they approached you, you’d definitely talk to them, right?" She asked him and he looked up at her.
"Yes, I will." She finally looked away from them and turned to him.
"Then you better start reciting your introduction speech, like right now." She said, which confused him.
"What? Why would I...?"
"Because right now, they’re coming this way."
