Chapter 69: Good riddance to all nuisance

They got to the venue and Raymond shook Ariel out of her sleep.

"We’re here." He said to her and she batted her eyelashes open. She looked calm and resembled an angel while sleeping and now that she was awake, she had regained her form as a demoness.

"Hm." She said and stretched her arms. "Then, let’s go?" She asked and he nodded.

The driver came down, opened Raymond’s door and he came down, looking majestic and mighty to the eye.

He walked round to Ariel’s door and opened it. First, he put his head in and made sure nothing was smudged on her face before saying, 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"You’re perfect." She smiled at his words and took his hand before getting down.

Compared to Ariel’s audaciously red dress, Raymond wore black. It wasn’t plain black. It had sparkles like hers and there were traces of red but it was okay.

Everything looked good on him anyway.

As they approached the entrance of the mansion, the surrounding people had already started murmuring. The illegitimate child of the Stein’s family was walking in majestically with a gorgeous lady whose face was still familiar with the news outlets.

As the guards opened the door, allowing them entry into the magnificent manor, all eyes fell on them.

’Ah, who invited that bad egg?’

While regular invites stood outside, waiting for the appointed time, both external and internal members of the Stein’s were present in the manor. And as such, there was no one who did not loath - scratch that - There was no one who did not envy the famous Raymond Stein whose business had blown through the roof and made their little businesses look like peanuts.

If not for the fact that they were of Stein’s lineage, blood related one way or the other, they couldn’t even think of stepping their foot into the manor.

The glares, stares and sneers bounced off the couple as they made their way to the family heads.

Standing at the extreme end podium was Philip Stein, Raymond’s father. At his left side were Yara Stein, his wife and Serena, his only daughter and the brown haired girl who had been keeping an eye on Ariel.

On Philip Stein’s right hand side, were his two sons. Twins named Leonard and Theodore. They were pretty much a big deal and were seen as the pride of the Stein’s family as a whole.

They were handsome, the crush of every girl and also ’kind’? Anyway, compared to Raymond, they had legitimate rights over Stein inheritance.

Raymond stopped in front of them and said,

"You’re lucky to have lived this long." His utterance made Mr Stein’s blood tick but he had learnt to hide it in. Raymond had always sort of a way to make his blood rise on different occasions.

The last time he lost his temper on Raymond was during his father’ funeral, Raymond’s grandfather and the former head of the family. Raymond was 17 at the time and to the hearing of all the guests, he said,

"Good riddance to all nuisance. He is better off dead."

Philip lost his temper and hit Raymond with a cane, causing him to fall down to the floor.

The hitting stopped there because the media was present but he had the guards take Raymond away to a dark room. There, he had the guards whip him till he admitted his wrong but he refused, stayed silent and had every one of his bones broken.

Though he was in pain, Raymond did not fail to smirk, mocking Philip’s effort to ’discipline’ him.

"Don’t act... Like you... Didn’t hope for..." He coughed and smirked. "...his death."

Annoyed and boiling, Philip snatched the whip from the guard and gave Raymond the last beating before he lost consciousness.

At that time when he was left to himself, Steve helped him and took him away to his father to treat him.

By the time Raymond recovered, he had already clocked 18 and was eligible to live alone. He broke himself from the Stein’s family hold but made sure to show up at each of their events in order to taunt them.

"You too." Philip said to Raymond. "Thanks to my genes, you were able to live this long. But you seem to be living far longer than you should, given all the commotion you’ve been causing lately."

Raymond took this as an opportunity to introduce Ariel. So he said,

"Come to think of it, the center of all that commotion is right here." He turned to Ariel. "This is my partner, Ariel Albert."

Ariel slightly bowed her head and though Philip’s gaze was both frightening and murderous, she managed to make eye contact with him and said,

"Happy birthday." And then she smiled.

Philip didn’t like Ariel the moment he laid eyes on her. A girl who didn’t bother about public opinion and did whatever she wanted was always a nuisance. And to top it up, she dared to make eye contact with him.

"Anyone beside you is no good." Yara, Philip’s wife uttered with a cold tone from her red lips and Raymond took it as a compliment.

"Thank you for your kind words." He said and turned. "We’ll be at the food table, if you don’t mind."

Raymond and Ariel left, leaving their straight line of sight. While they left, Ariel couldn’t help but feel their eyes were murderously fixed on her.

She thought it was coming from Philip and his wife but when she looked over her shoulders, it was neither Philip or Yara. Rather, it was the twins and Raymond’s half sister.

They were looking at her like she was some sort of rare amusement piece and their eyes... The scary and possessive look in their eyes scared her so she quickly looked away.

"What’s wrong?" Raymond asked her and she shook her head, clutching his arm tightly.

"I seem to have entered your siblings’ radar." She said and Raymond stopped. He looked back at them and exchanged their look on Ariel with a menacing glare.

He placed his hand around her little waist and mouthed,

"Stay away from her. She’s mine." Stating his possession over her, he quickly led her away from there.

Leo smirked, Theo grinned and Serena cackled, covering a part of her mouth as her face turned into that of a freak. It was amusing and the three siblings had immediately taken interest in innocent Ariel.
